Well if you've ever seen the koala sanctuary and the quarantine etc. at the back of the park, then you would agree that DreamWorld is a bit of a zoo, but not compared to, let's say, Dubbo Zoo, for example. It's more of a "save animals" experience. Bit confusing, probably because the weather here is 38 degrees celcius....... damn......
-
Nice, and i'll be sure to get some more photos and updates soon to help you guys out. Plus from this moment on, i'll be pretty much at DreamWorld every Sunday, so i'll be keeping you updated hopefully when my ebay digital camera arrives (a very nice one too!)

It's SOOOOOOOO TRUE!!! I got Tower Of Terror!!! Thank you, that was a quick and revealling exercise.....

We went to Disneyland not so long ago with Quantas by economy and it was actually quite nice, but flying economy is something that takes alot of flights to get used to....

I think this is generally like a ford vs. holden situation. They both have their upsides and downsides. The B&M flying coaster's lift hill will have you hanging downwards compared to Vekoma's flying dutchman's facing upwards. I've also heard though that the Vekoma flying dutchman can be very uncomfortable (please excuse my spelling of that word) unllike the B&M's Nylon Acrylic coasted restraints which literally mould to the riders posture.

Why where the cable cars/sky chairs shut down at wonderland?

Dreamworld's new attraction - December 2004
Slick replied to kennykoala's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Alright alright, back to where the topic was supposed to be heading and by the way Joz, thank you for telling us about the closure of the Thrill seeker and the opening of Shark Bay, you are a member here that will PROPERLY look after us when it comes to Sea World.... Now I would like to clear things up about some of these people's little "I THINK I'M GREAT BECAUSE I CAN TYPE INTO THIS THING CALLED A KEYBOARD THING..." Speaking to ride manager of DreamWorld the site where the Intamin Gyro Swing is going to go is still in rumour stages. The reason this is because the area behind the WipeOut etc. is where the employees take a break and essentially "have a fag." Now if you can imagine what would happen if 50 people could watch half of the employees having a cigarette at the supposedly without anyone watching would be not only uncomfortable for the employees, but for the people on the ride to get a view of people taking a break is surely not additional themeing (mind you some parks do.) And they also cannot build anything on the middle island as i found out today because of wildlife etc. So there you have it, i have just cleared up a bit of smoke. Two more quick things, I aplogise if my spelling is a bit rough somewhere but riding the Tower of Terror almost 10 times consecutively not to mention the numerous amount of Giant Drop rides i have experienced today is starting to get the better of me! And the west side gondola of the GD has been taking fully off for refurbishment, somewhere overseas i think. Well......*swallows mouthful of today's lunch* cya laterrrrrrr...... -

well that's probably not true seeming the fact that without major reconstruction they couldn't fit a gyro swing where the roundabout is now..... And wouldn't that cause a lot of mess? -
I'd have to say that the one at Luna Park is by far more intense than the Spooty Spin.... jeese that's a pathetic name. Like Richo, i know the acts of the angry beavers quite well and still don't get..... well there's another question for DW administration....

Having been there quite alot recently the park looks like it really is shaping up etc. Take a look for example the new Gold Rush sign (which looks fantastic might I add) and there has been quite a number of small but impacting updates which I have noticed iver the past few weeks. I think that now the park has a chance of maybe one day owning a "woodie", but they still have to run the whole marathon, not have a breather and stop half way through (metaphore by the way ). But if we were talking one year back from now, I would definitely agree with Richard.

Alright then, guess it's time for Part 2 of NZ tripping. This time, instead of going day by day, i'll just let the whole thing flow..... Alright so by this time we had left smelly old Rotorura and went further south, down to hastings, a very respected wine town which has a very nice water park indeed. Unfortunately by this time I could only walk around the entrance, as the park was closed, and add to the fact that the charger for the camera was nowhere to be seen, I wasn't able to take any photos, BUT, i was able to get a brochure which lead to a site which had photos, so I guess you have photos in the end. Now, after spending new years eve flicking between channels etc. etc., we travelled down to our final southern city, Wellington. Wellington was nice and peaceful, considering the fact that because of New Years, the only place that was open in the city was literally macca's, or should i say, mercdornelds........ So it was pretty peaceful there, apart from the big shot they had there, which is the same as the one on the gold coast, and in auckland city, which i reckon is weird, coz they have one pissweak park and a large number of big shots...... right........ So after doing the tourist thing some more we were on our journey back north, stopping at Taupo. Now, one funny thing about taupo was that us ozzies at a bit of a amusing cultural clash. So we stopped at this nationally renouned Cafe nursery place (a cafe which sells trees basically) and walked in to get a coffee and a coke. We walked up to the counter and the lady said all the usual stuff and then said "would you like to try our fresh ginger & peeerrrr muffins sir?" Whoa? "Sorry, what did you say?" "You know, ginger and peeer!" "Sorry, what was that last word?"............... At this point she was making a whole lot of hand gestures and funny stressed noise which was quite amusing to watch now that i think about it. Finally after ranting and raving, one of the ozzie waitressess stepped in and said "sorry sir, she means pear, ginger and perrrrrrrrrrr......" Alright so we are now at Taupo, and what was I lucky enough to see and ride? A nice aqquainted.... errr.... well it was a roller coaster that looks like the Metropolitan i think at Luna Park Melbourne.... you know...... the... errr.... galaxy.....err..... SPC something arada...... Anyways, like I said before, the camera was dead, so i wasn't able to take any photos of this rollercoaster, but we all know what it looks like anyway.... So after hitting Rainbows's End back in Auckland (which will be in the next post) we went up to Matouri Bay, which is where my Uncle works and lives. Here's a history lesson for anyone reading, does anyone remember the rainbow warrior that was sunk by the french? Well it was sunk just a 1km out from Matouri Bay as a natural reef and coincidentally, my uncle's work is diving the rainbow warrior, cool...... The only bad thing about this was that he was a bit too busy for us to go on a private session but my uncle knew a bunch of really nice millionares (coincidence again) WHO OWNED THEIR OWN ISLAND, HOW COOL IS THAT? And even cooler, WE GOT TO STAY THERE FOR A NIGHT!! WoW! And i got photos of all this aswell..... But unfortunately, all trips have to come to an end, and so did ours, but something still remians, Rainbow's End...... don't worry, another post away! Cya Soon!

certainly right there richo and one more thing: If you've ever noticed before (either by checking out the massive console or you happened to be the lucky people who have been stuck on it before) they are manually able to determine how fast etc. it goes basically for situations where it doens't come into the station properly or either the LSMs shut down.

Well thanks to the help of Dreamworld.com.au i have some new closure times in store from now to the end of June. This is most probably a good thing for dreamworld taking in the fact that they have been doing alot of themeing around the park and might be actually taking some pride in thier big 5 thrill ride's themeing situation. And that log flume needs some maintnence as well. Not really themeing as such, but just some removal of chewing gum would be nice. Okay down to the crucnh, here are all the times in detail: The following rides are going to be closed for maintenance upgrades: The Rapid Ride between 28th January and 30th January inclusive and 26th May and 4th June. The Runaway Reptar Rollercoaster between 16th February and 27th February inclusive. The Cyclone between 9th March and 11th March inclusive. The Tower of Terror between 22nd March and 1st April inclusive. The Log Ride between 27th April and 21st May inclusive. The Cyclone will also be closed for one-day only maintenance upgrades on the following days: 2nd April 2004 26th April 2004 7th June 2004 and 25th June 2004 The Big Brother House and Stadium are now closed to make way for the Big Brother 4 series. And one more thing, I will check with my sister and law at Skyreach to check whether or not any machines are being taken out for paint jobs excetera. Cya!

I would definitely have to agree with you there Richo. That was by far one of the best ride experiences to date without having to explain and waffle on. To me, if a queue line turns into the ride itself (i.e. fog effects, lighting, videos and atmosphere) it doesn't matter how long the queue time is because, you are on the ride, just waiting for another part of the ride to go into, the climax if you will. Sorry, i'm tired, i'm going to bed now.........

What i found funny is that Superman the escape reaches the exact same speed but is taller in the air????????? Now, if they are exactly the same design in terms of system and type, how is it that one can be taller than the other? adding a bit more track on doesn't make a difference if you don't go over it

Is everyone dead now or don't want to spend 30 seconds making a post..... Please guys, feedback!!
-
Slightly going off topic here...... does anyone remember the Star Wars simulator pods at Disneyland, anaheim? They were fantastic, the queue themeing had an actual R2D2 replica hanging out of a life size....... z-wing thing..... with smoke effects!

Neither can I..... is the image that big???

Dreamworld's new attraction - December 2004

I wonder what the theming will be like for our now proposed Intamin Gyro Swing. Aztec themeing? Gold Rush themeing? Oil rig themeing? Madigra themeing? Who knows? -
Went to DreamWorld, Tomb Raider was pretty good, BUT, you can tell it was designed for a limited season. Cyclone was in tip top condition as well, sorry, perfect condition, it was a perfect yellow colour, and the train was as smooth as silk. Tower Of Terror was really playing up though, which meant that i couldn't ride it  . maybe Monday though

I must say though, that Giant Drop is unparalled in its "thrill factor". At Rainbow's end in NZ, they were continuously rumbling on about how good the GD was, and "its such a good example etc. etc.

Oh there you go Richard, happy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a new inversion in testing I call the Dimension Roll. Just have a look and let me remind you it is in testing, it has still not been perfected.

Well, you've been waiting for it (I think) and here it is, photos and all. This, incase you haven't already realised, is my two week trip to NZ, taking in alot of scenery, theme parks, and fart tax (more on that later). Day 1 Alright so we got to Auckland airport finding out that we were now jetlagged by 3 hours ahead in a time warp so we went to my auntie's house (which is a lovely house near blucklands beach) and spent the night there. Day 2 So after eating breakfast and whatnot, we started our 3000km journey down the north island, and our first stop was none other than Stinky Rotorura (god bless that sulphur). We walked around, did a bit of sight-seeing and then headed to see a whole heep of relatives which i played mini-golf with until 8:30pm at night. This was weird because the sun in NZ doesn't go down until 10:30pm at night during summer. Day 3 This was probably one of the climaxes of the trip for me. This 1/2 theme park located about 500 metres up on top of a mountain is called SkyWay. First, you buy a ticket for the SkyWay chairlift, which takes you from sea level, all the way up. Then, you buy more tickets to go on the Luge, and this place, was something. I have been to what the locals call the Luge before, but was too young to go on the steel track, which was unfortunately permantly closed when i got there, but you get that seeming it went something like 70km down the mountain . Alright, back to topic, there are 3 tracks, scenic (which is slow and boring, that's why it's called scenic), intermmediate (yeah it's alright, a bit of fun with a bit of scenery, which replaced that steel track, damn it) and the advanced track (this baby rocks, it splits, there's obstacles.......oh yeah baby). All tracks are made of reinforced conrete which is nice until they lie and you're on some crappy old tarmac pathway(hehe). They also had a big shot (unfortunately i didn't go on that one, but i got a Quikctime video of it.) And so that was half of the day gone, after that, we did a whole bunch of sightseeing, like those steamy geisers and stuff like that. And so the journey goes on.... and i'm now taking a brake, so you going to have to wait for Part 2,3,4,5,6............. and so on. ;)Videos, and pictures are in the next post.

With LSMs, the magnets create an electrical discharge, so you can imagine what would happen with 2.2 megawatts of electricity directly in the rain
