Dracula's new 2007 Haunted House Attraction
Gold Coaster replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It lasts a lot longer than Nightmares and while there are a few static animatronic displays, there are some cool areas to wander through, making it worth doing at least once. More to the point, me mentioning it's family-run just makes what they've done even more amazing - not simply a concession. No, it's not the equal of Disney's Haunted Mansion but that's one of the ultimate haunted house experiences you can get. But they have done a great job, just on a smaller scale. -
Dracula's new 2007 Haunted House Attraction
Gold Coaster replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It is though. It's not expensive & a lot of fun. And as a new attraction, definitely worth checking out for something different. They've done really well for a family run operation. -
I did that, birthday present from my grandmother. Prefer the tiger experience at DW. The talk was better and you have a bit more time with the critters. They're also scarier than dolphins SW you have one half in shallow water with a brief photo, the other out in the deep water with the dolphins doing tricks. It was really good but go for Tiger Island instead. Dreamworld do a brilliant job with that.

Sierra Sidewinder was a pretty fun ride, did it in July... great idea That OR Goliath would be an excellent addition. I could maybe see MW putting the SS type coaster and DW one like Goliath.

Haha perfect.

Exactly. It shouldn't be the be-all-and-end-all of a ride. There are so many other elements that give better sensations!

I'd prefer something like Hades at Mt Olympus (one of my major faves this year): It could go under the car park a couple of times but have theming like a cave with Aboriginal rock art or something. "DREAMTIME" The ride logo could be something really primal too.

TV Alert - House On Haunted Hill
Gold Coaster replied to Gold Coaster's topic in Theme Park Discussion
At the very beginning, I think there is an asylum scene set in the past (what the house used to be). So keep the volume muted and just glance at the TV until it's over. Can't recall the scene from memory though so don't know how bad it gets. The amusement park scene would be after that. Unless my memory is wrong and the backstory is shown later in the movie. -
^^ Raging Bull was one of the better coasters on the TPR Midwest Trip... wouldn't mind one of those at all. I agree Movie World is more likely to put in a B&M than DW. But the latter will wake up sooner or later that they're going to lose their strength in the thrill department ... and then we'll benefit from the battle.

On TV tonight is 'House on Haunted Hill', a really crappy horror movie. Where thrills come into this instead is that an opening scene was shot using the Incredible Hulk at Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Just a heads-up as it piqued my interest since the first time I saw this movie it was 6 years before I did the ride so didn't know which one it was. It's a great coaster & so you should take five minutes out of your TV viewing tonight to check out the scene.

It would be nice if they showed the 3D version of Beowulf! But I don't think we could ever expect something as up to the minute.

^ Idiot No. If there's one thing that would look really really bad, it's the Dreamworld logo giant-sized on the wheel IMHO. But one of those would be great. I have done the moving carriages at DCA and loved it.

Put in a shooting dark ride. Maybe theme it to rounding up bushrangers or something.

I bought it on DS and frankly, that's the crappiest format. I have wanted to see RCT2 ported onto DS for a long time. Theme Park has been done though and is around $50...pretty good value, they've done a nice job.

It's a fair jump above the quality of the first game (which was fun anyway). I like the Whoa! components like the stunt jumps etc ... the makers have embraced the fact that physics plays no part in this particular franchise so have gone all out. While I would have preferred more carnival style midway games instead of arcade ones, it's a solid game that you can also pick up cheaply - $50 or even $40 in some places. And that was the price from the start, it hasn't come down from not selling. Coasters and everything are easily constructed. The controls are really good and the different themes are amazing. Missions and guest interaction are fun - not so much the conversations but challenging people etc. I have it on PSP and love its portability but getting a new computer in the next couple of days so will probably get it on PC. Don't expect Rollercoaster Tycoon but if you're looking for an arcade style game set in a theme park, you'll like it.

AMF Bowling Confirmed for Dreamworld
Gold Coaster replied to dodge53's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Thought as much. Still... it's good for wet weather and people who have passes can just go there, do a bit of bowling and hit some rides in the rest of the time... better than going to Surfers and doing the overpriced (though fun) rides there. -
They've put in the midway, Intencity, a carousel and Froghopper. The next ride should be a thrill ride and if we're getting a woodie, it should be a decent one.

I'm surprised you didn't know about Soarin', Ash.

Mick Doohan Motocoaster construction discussion
Gold Coaster replied to AugustVonPolen's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I rode it again yesterday, once. Quite a short queue time even though my friend and I chose front row... both trains were operating. The thing is, to me it now seems faster. Before, I told my friend it kind of died after the first few turns and was waiting during the ride for it to do that so I could look at him & nod as if to say 'see?' But the ride's speed didn't seem to drastically drop like it did last time (about 3-4 weeks ago). It seemed a little bit stronger at launch but the main thing was the speed seemed much more constant. Has anyone else gone on it recently and would you agree? -
Terminator could be heading Down Under
Gold Coaster replied to dreamworld_rulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don't want them to replace Shrek 4D for a long long time - if ever. It's nice having a little slice of Universal here on the Gold Coast. Batman Adventure needs to be replaced. Badly. While it's a classic attraction history-wise, it's taking up room that could have a really state of the art ride even if that had a compact footprint. The only thing is it does go with Batwing so maybe keep the theme but go with something more thrilling. But the BTTF fan in me makes me wish they bought the ride from Universal. It's sad that the age of the franchise works against it. -
Mick Doohan-Dreamworlds biggest blunder?
Gold Coaster replied to sonic123488's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^ It's still better than having a ride that isn't fun and been done before. -
^ And I didn't have the time to post a commentary when making the post. I mean it's not like the thread implodes or something by making a fair comment. That's quite a few accidents to have happened. First time I've heard of someone getting zapped at an ATM and while I'm sure that won't be the last time, the major thing is it's something that could easily happen to any of us. And an attendant laughing at a kid potentially being in danger is disgusting. I agree with you though Gazza that this stuff should be made available more - parks are more accountable that way.

Eureka Mountain Mine Ride Maintenance
Gold Coaster replied to Drewboy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
If it's a totally new ride experience, then yes, they could promote it. Even if it occupies largely the same space. I mean... they promote Mick Doohan as part of the Big 6... they can do anything right? -
It's ok but the controls aren't precise and the presentation is kinda blah. Probably better for multiplayer but even then, you're probably better off putting the money into NoLimits, or whatever. I'd just save for SM Galaxy though.
