  1. Buzz Wrong. Lightning hit the Skyrider tower behind the Galaxy Theatre. No, no one was on the ride at the time as it had closed due to the storm. "The Bus is now leaving for Buzzandan, NSW"
  2. It was indeed a lightning rod and let me tell you it was brown trousers for me during a huge storm that hit the park. I was waiting for it to get struck but it didn't happen. As far as I know it was never hit during park hours but Skyrider was. It was there before Space Probe was built before anyone starts saying otherwise. "The Bus is now leaving for Lightning Knob, NSW"
  3. And that is relevant, how? They got a new security system good on them. Going by the date on that article the system wasn't even in operation for a year before the closure. "Wonderland Time" as we called it was the most inaccurate time piece on the planet. It would chime every 15 minutes but would be around 5 minutes off every time. Example, it would be 5:05pm or 5:10pm by everyone’s watch and we were walking out of the park and the chime would be going off, look up at the clock and it says 5pm. "The Bus is now leaving for Clock Spring, South Australia"
  4. Dodgems was definitely not a trailer job. The Dodgems was the most popular ride in the park after Beastie, in terms of rider numbers. "The Bus is now leaving for Trailers Mountain, NSW"
  5. There was one camera in the Space Probe launch area that went directly to security. Things you didn't know about Wonderland, hmmm where do I start? Baby ducks regularly got sucked into the pumps at Snowy. "The Bus is now leaving for Baby Creek Bore, South Australia"
  6. That's right. There are also fences and queue lines that may be damaged. There are also the spare cars out the back of Dodgems that may need repairing to replace one that is on the track. There are also plenty of bits that the general public have absolutely no idea about. I can't believe that Alex got some information about rides correct. I guess it's because it’s the New Year. "The Bus is now leaving for Poddy Dodger Spur, NSW"
  7. Remember there were 20-/+ rides to check each morning but there wasn't 20-/+ maintenance crews to check them. So each crew checked more than 1 ride. See how it takes so much time? You can be sure that all other parks do the same thing. "The Bus is now leaving for Crew Pine, Western Australia"
  8. Please see here for an answer. "The Bus is now leaving for Answer Downs, Queensland"
  9. I don't want Rappa to be bitch slapped by Richard so I thought I would start a new thread here. If Richard would be so kind he could move the relevant posts from here to this thread. To answer your question Rapster, maintenance personnel would start ride checks at 7am and usually be done by 9:30 or 10am opening rides. If there was any problems with the ride the check would sometimes go beyond 10am. Ride operators would have to do at least one full cycle before opening the ride to the guests. The reason this was done was to check that there were no unusual noises etc etc. "The Bus is now leaving for Slap Up Creek, NSW"
  10. Taz has gone to Melbourne. No not to LPM but to a travelling ride company, not sure which one, the info I got from Hussy is that Wittingslow, TPA, Johnson’s and Advanced are based in Melbourne. It is going to be fitted to a trailer and become a travelling ride. All the rides from the Wonderland site that have/are going to Malaysia are being relocated to Sunway Lagoon or the new park that is being built in the north of the country, areas not effected by the tsunami. As for the other ride staying in Oz, the only possibility of this happening, as I understand, is Space Probe, Zodiac or the Beach Tower. They are the three attractions that have not yet found a new home, but the only one I can see staying is the Beach Tower, where it would go to at the moment is anyone's guess. As for your question about what LPS should do I think they should reduce the number of permanent rides (possibly get rid if Tumble Bug and Spider) and have a greater number of rotating rides. Doing that would help keep the park fresh and attractive to the people of Sydney, if they don't the park will become very stale and go the way of the Wonderland. "The Bus is now leaving for Breaking Wave, South Australia"
  11. scream if you hate flat rides, particularly the spinning ones, why did you bother going to Luna Park? Besides Wild Mouse all of the rides are flat spinning rides. "The Bus is now leaving for Spinaway Well, Western Australia"
  12. The main reason was money. Luna wanted them for less than Wonderland was willing to let them go for and Wonderland wanted more than Luna was willing to give. Bounty's is heading over the Malaysia. Space Probe hasn't found a home yet. The ride that is definitely staying in Australia is Taz, negotiations are still going on for the second ride, but the probability is that all the rest will end up in Malaysia for elsewhere overseas. "The Bus is now leaving for Malay Well, Western Australia"
  13. Berty, Berty, Berty, when will you learn? You know nothing about how the rides were operated or maintained. I can assure you that none of these rides were "just cycled". Bounty's probably took the most time to check in the morning, not including the major rides, each seat had to be checked individually and with 50 seats you can see what I'm talking about. Zodiac also required a fair bit of time due to the size of the hydraulic system. Endeavour also had a fairly large hydraulic and electrical system, Taz was much the same. Auto's had a track to inspect, electrical system on each car to check. Snowy had up to 12 boats to check, a full track walk to do, 3 pumps to inspect. The points I have just outlined are just the start of what was inspected on each ride daily. Sorry Bert I meant to say you should stick to taking photos. "The Bus is now leaving for Captain Bert Madigan Park, Western Australia"
  14. No ride at Wonderland was "just cycled a few times". Each had a checklist that had to be completed by the mechanic who checked the ride. The checklist included, checking each restraint, for sharp edges, queue line faults. It then had mechanical checks, enough grease, and physical faults in the ride structure, etc, etc. After these and more were checked the ride was then cycled several times and the breaking (normal and e-stop) was checked as was various other aspects of ride operation. Bobby, I mean Alex, stick to singing and dancing and leave the stuff about rides to the people who know. "The Bus is now leaving for Singers Gully, NSW"
  15. It has been brought to my attention that Alex is yet again wrong. I was informed of this error by a learned friend of mine. Bush Beast was not 'essentially' cycled a few times in the morning. Bush Beast had the most thorough of checks of any ride at Wonderland. Most rides only required 1 maintenance worker to check them. Bush Beast on the other hand had a minimum of 3. One was a mechanic who checked the lift and the train, one was a sparky who checked the electrical system including the PLC and one was a carpenter who completed a full track walk everyday. Those three people were then required to sign off a checklist stating that the ride was in working order. "The Bus is now leaving for Checkingurk Creek, Victoria"
  16. I’m still not convinced that it is not a fake. To me the tower looks like it has been drawn. Buzz I think you need to get your eyes checked if you think that those photos you posted are better quality. They are a lot darker and are fuzzy, the one Paul posted originally is much sharper. Look at this photo and tell me if it real or not. "The Bus is now leaving for Fuzzy Hill, Queensland"
  17. Seeing as the Is this real? thread has been closed but no discussion about it was allowed I thought I would try again. I think the photo is a fake, yes the shadows are there but that is really easy to do with a program called Photoshop. If you look at the actual tower in the picture you will see why I think it is a fake. It looks like it is drawn and then put on a generic photo to give an impression of what the ride will look like when it is finished. Where did that photo come from Paul? "The Bus is now leaving for The Illusion Plains, South Australia"
  18. The main reason for the breakdown in negotiations is that both parties wanted something that the other was not willing to give. From what I have been told all of the rides except one or two are going overseas. As you know Demon is going to the States but the rest of them are going to Asia. "The Bus is now leaving for Light Of Asia Mine, Western Australia"
  19. The sale of ex-Wonderland rides to LPS fell through in the final stages of negotiations and the rides have gone elsewhere now. "The Bus is now leaving for Elsewhere, South Australia"
  20. Steve, please stop posting these repetitive threads. You do it every week or so, "Best coaster type", "Worst coaster type", "Best park", "Worst park", you understand where I’m going with this. A suggestion for you signature, if you can understand what your signature means but going by your age you probably have no idea, so change it. "The Bus is now leaving for Couchman Repeater Station, Western Australia"
  21. You really have no idea do you Shifty? As GoBoi said the park was and is for the people of Sydney and not a specific demographic. There are rides for young and old, the function rooms cater for everyone and the nostalgia the park has for many Sydneysiders, particularly the older generations make it a drawcard. They didn't spend the money to make a historic park, the park was already historic, the money was used to get it ready to re-open again and modernise it. What's that I hear? It sounds like sleigh bells. I must be off now Santa’s coming. I’m so excited. "The Bus is now leaving for Wanui Santas, Queensland"
  22. I don't know what countries you are referring to but Australia has amongst the highest wages in the world, particularly in the construction industry. The wage for a labourer in America is around 50-75% of what it is here, and yes that does take into account the exchange rate. Is this new ride costing $12 million AUD or USD? Because people here are saying AUD but RCDB says USD. "The Bus is now leaving for Wagebadenup, Western Australia"
  23. I agree that the back area of the park is very dodgy and I almost missed it when I went. However I was talking about how the rides on trailers look not how the park looks. For a ride like Ranger to be taken off the trailer and made permanent would require taking the ride out of operation for at least a month, closing a fairly large area to allow the ride to be adapted and also to prepare the location where it is going to go. It's not just a simple matter of removing the trailer off the bottom of the ride. I don't think this has anything to do with the residents complaining, they are going to do it regardless of where the rides are located. As for the Wild Mouse I haven't seen it since it opened so I really cannot comment on how it looks. However the catwalks, due to the rides location on the roof, are probably required to be painted yellow by WorkCover. They have very definitive guidelines on this kind of thing. "The Bus is now leaving for Wild Cat Bore, Northern Territory"
  24. "Superman: The Wheelchair Bound" "The Bus is now leaving for Double Wheel Farm, NSW"
  25. I have no idea who you are talking about. If it's still on let me know and I will try and watch it. I still like the cartoon version though. "The Bus is now leaving for Stanaforth, NSW"
