I just seen a post from a Dreamworld maintenance staff member stating the Gondolas on Giant Drop have already been replaced! One early this year, and the other late last year.

I’m not sure they know what they are talking about. There has been a previous discussion about this before, and I believe one gondola was replaced/refurbed a couple of years back, but no other changes have been made.

the scope of works the park presented made no mention of gondola changes

Yeah it seems like if they were gonna replace the gondola they would have made that a main feature when they announced the refurb for the tower

I do remember it being stated on here or somewhere else that the gondola’s were replaced prior to the refurb with the exact same type of gondola, the new ones have “the giant drop” on the steel covering above the riders and less baggy otsr’s.

Giant Drop maintenance has been extended until March 31 2023. It will mean it will be closed for around 340 days.

That's a lot of time to repaint a tower. Surely there's much more going on. With extending the delay so far, I'd almost guess shipping delays on new parts.

I think it’s mostly come down to trades availability and delays due to winds/rain. Trades are booked in for x amount of time, whether or shipping causes delays, trades have to move onto other work, and so on. Hence why the tower has probably taken so long to paint and why there has been times where nothing has happened for several weeks

The tower looked really good when I drove past a few days ago. From the road it’s hard to tell the bottom of the tower is not painted

Do you guys think it'll be open by the end of September 2023?

It says it ends in April 2023 but if there are delays do you think it would be that long?

That’s great to hear. Would love some custom audio on the way up.

Giant Drop has been delayed, due to weather & finding “some opportunities to further extend the life of one of Dreamworld's most iconic rides”. They also talk about repainting being completed, and that they’re currently planning to install the lights. Images are attached:

The rides now scheduled to reopen June 24

Opening dates about as reliable as Leviathan

It's not nearly as mismanaged as the New Atlantis precinct was/is. A ride isn't as unreliable as Levi just because it encounters a delay.

Huh?

You said the opening dates are as un/reliable as Levi's, which isn't true. As far as I can tell, Dreamworld never announced an opening date for the updated Giant Drop, only extended the maintenance period as delays were dealt with. Delays are understandable, what made New Atlantis so mismanaged was their poor reasoning (or lack of it entirely) for said delays, and their multiple announcements for 'set in stone' opening dates that never got met. Also, y'know, being delayed for over 2 years, and being barely functional on opening.
