To be honest I use Afterpay all the time, solely for the purpose of them storing nu digital receipts. I know a lot of places now are using a digital receipt system like jbhifi etc. but yes it’s quite handy for that

Can someone please tell me what the 11 brand-new rides are at Dreamworld that opened in the last 12 months? I got my renewal email today and could count more than 5 “new” attractions that have opened in the last 24 months.

IMG_3862.jpeg

Pretty sure we discussed this a while ago and the logic we arrived at was that they were counting all the rethemed attractions in Dreamland and so on.

  1. Jungle Rush
  2. Murrisippi
  3. Serpent Slayer
  4. Big Red Boat
  5. Big Red Planes
  6. Forest Flyer
  7. BIP Carousel
  8. Maze
  9. Treehouse
  10. Dodgems
  11. Splashpad

If we're not counting Rivertown in the number then you can also grab the Dreamworld Theatre. Not sure what the last one would be but it's marketing...

well it says “rides and attractions” so i’m assuming Jungle Jane’s would count, maybe even the updated Tiger Island as well. I mean it’s very clear the park has changed A LOT, so no matter the count, it’s obvious in park.

I have to agree with you, they need to up it a bit. Say $129 renewal? I know people will complain, but the offering is great at the moment with more too come

Full price is $159, which is a fair comparison given Village's local's lite pass is $189.

Retaining an existing passholder is far cheaper than attracting a new one. There's plenty of people who alternate properties - one year at dreamworld and one year at village. Offering a renewal with a 37% discount makes it a deal you can't refuse and locks them into another year at Dreamworld instead of forking out almost twice the price for a village pass. I don't know if $129 would be enough of a difference to sway people from 'trying the other side of the highway' if they haven't been in a while, but $99 sure is. Dreamworld needs to hang on to every passholder they have right now - retention is super important.

They'll up their prices more in time, but there's still recovery time to go. 2016-2019 wasn't really recovery time because of the inept folk running the show who tried to build crocodile rivers and ampitheatres, and resurrect eureka mountain. Then we had Covid - every corporation's excuse for poor performance. Steel taipan should have been built near the start of 2020 and it didn't open until December 2021. I'd say 2021-2022 FY would be their first 'year of recovery' where they actually had good direction and backing. By that metric we're approaching four years in - and if I recall, everyone believed it should have taken 4. (and don't forget all the other good rides they lost along the way - through poor maintenance and management).

So - while i'm not giving them a pass on those earlier years - i'm conscious that - because of prior mismanagement - they're not '8 years in' - they're only 4 - now is the point they should have been at in 2020. I suspect we'll continue to see modest lifts in the pricing, but they're still the 'underdog' so they'll still need to price themselves under village, not because village is better, but to win the 'cheaper' argument and maintain retention.

Agreed, but @DaptoFunlandGuy is absolutely correct for once/is making sense. They did actually raise the price to $119 for a period (and included some Bonus Vouchers) but ultimately have settled at $99.

What's even crazier is currently if you don't renew at $99 eventually you will be offered a renewal as cheap as $69.

@Park Addict 93 The current new pass offer is $159.00, but gives you $50.00 to spend in park.  In reality the current new pass offer is $109.00.

The $159.00 looks good in the ledger and that's about it.

To be clear I was talking about the previous and current renewal pricing.

With the $50 included in new passes it’s guaranteed revenue for the park regardless of if it’s used, I would wager not everyone will use it all/remember to use it before it expires. Same principle as why retailers love gift cards/vouchers.

DW can't be that hard up that they are relying on a couple of people forgetting they have a 50 to spend.

If somebody was buying me a gift card to go to the movies, I may not want to go to the movies and never redeem it.   If I purchased a gift card for myself to go to the movies.  I wouldn't of brought it unless I intended to redeem it.

Dreamworld flyer and that and Dreamworld theatre, could well indeed not be talking about Rivertown as well.

My god you have zero idea about consumer logic. They're not relying on a couple of people forgetting. Spend it or not, some of the additional funds are still profit. And it incentivises people to buy.

You're not buying a gift card for yourself. you're buying an annual pass. the gift card is a freebie for something you were going to buy anyway. Therefore you may or may not use it. A few years ago they included free ride express passes with renewals. i've still got 1 or 2 I never used. it costs them virtually nothing to include this sort of 'extra' but it bundles it up to make it more attractive (and is the same reason why Village included fright nights, then white christmas, then carnivale and so on with their annual passes)

The flyer is of course what I was forgetting that makes up the 11 not including Rivertown. thanks mate.
