Dismantling started on doomsday destroyer

Recommended Posts

Doomsday's individual page has now been deleted off the park website and the ride has been taken off the maintenance schedule, however is still on the map and appears on the attractions page

Again surely an announcement comes soon. The ride is gone and whatever replaces it i'd imagine would be during 2026 at the very earliest (given its wet n wild's turn for capex this year and the area has re opened to public access without any substantial demolition work taking place). Surely they would have had time to prepare for a replacement given it was a lemon, right?

Option 2 back fill the hole and call it a world class DC precinct.

@Baconjackthere is also the possibility Intamin will give MW a large discount on a new ride, since DD turned out to be shit.

I've been raking my brain on what ride from Intanin, will fit at that location.

Keep the existing theming.

Get a discounted new ride.

Probably the best financial outcome for MW.

If that were true (which i wouldn’t know anything about) Intamin sell a bunch of drop towers and a small collection of flat rides (only 2 or 3  rides they design themselves). Thats it. They don’t have many choices

Drop tower? They already have batwing so no

tourbillon? Made by the same guys as doomsday (ABC) and are also lemons so you can rule that out if Village do their homework

Gyro swing? There’s one up the road that it will inevitably be compared to

By the process of elimination we can welcome back the sea world pirate ship

I don't know if it's true, it's just a theory by the removal of DD, Intamin have exhausted any cost-effective ways to fix DD. might be cheaper to take the hit with another ride.

With DD and the Studio Showcase closed there's a decent sized plot of land available for expansion. I doubt they'll try a big thrill ride there given proximity to neighbours. Dare we hope for a new dark ride?

You might have a better chance of getting a new dark ride, if you buy a ticket in next Tuesday lotto, and build it yourself.

I wouldn't be so quick to knock this back. Batwing isn't super tall, and has pretty low capacity. While the park up the road already has a giant drop, there are variations on these now (falcon?) that would provide a different perspective. You could get away with doing it 'differently enough' that it could work.

I get the impression from some of the village executive that it's the kind of one-upmanship they enjoy that doing an intamin giant drop that is taller than the dreamworld one to steal the crown would also be their kind of penis measuring contest.

I could see them going for a Sky Jump, its a different enough experience to Batwing and Giant Drop

By all accounts the one at Busch gardens is very unreliable

They might have improved on the tech since then and it’s definitely very cool but replacing a lemon with another is not what we want

If I remember right Dreamworld decided against a conversion of giant drop because it was too intimidating so that might be a factor too

In a park where they are trying to work to restore a shattered trust with their guests, as well as rebuild a ride line-up decimated by years of neglect, with the loss of family favourites - log ride, rapids, mine ride, and even to a lesser extent, the more extreme losses of TOT & wipeout - it's completely understandable that Dreamworld wouldn't want to go too extreme while they're still trying to restore their lineup to a well rounded mix...

On the other hand, Movie World's lineup hasn't got those same holes (though it would benefit from many more flat rides). Attractions like scooby (when it reopens), wild west, Roxy, Justice League, and now WOZ - the park has that 'middle family' market nicely covered, and it's even got a number of rollercoasters at various levels of appeal.

Without getting into the 'nitty gritty' - and please understand i'm talking more 'vibe' than 'stats' here - I would say Movie World's lineup is now at a point similar to the Dreamworld lineup pre-TOT. It's got all the boxes ticked that it can afford to build something stupidly insane even if it doesn't appeal to everyone as it will in itself make a name for itself.

The villains unleashed area is isolated from other thematic areas of the park that they don't have to really conform to anything specific (and let's face it - a crappy flat ride getting its own entire themed area was always a bit of a waste!) - this area is well suited to a big weenie you can see from miles around - just as GD is for Dreamworld.

I still think a Screamin' Swing would be a great replacement for the ride. Although some might say it's a bit too similar to King Claw I think it would be great. Capacity wise and visually they look great, and given they have 2 sides in quieter times they could get away with running one side if needed.

20 riders per side still isn't "terrible" but yeah

I wouldn't be so sure... That depends on dispatch interval, doesn't it... ;)

If you assume a 3 minute interval you'll get 400pph. If you get a seven minute interval like the recent reports at FOTWW, you're down to 171pph. That's only 1200 riders per operating day.

Not privy to what goes on now but I heavily doubt village roadshow would ever buy anything from S&S given how green lantern has turned out

Not only the trains have a long list of design flaws but they nearly killed people as well, id say they would have blacklisted them for any major capex projects after that happened

Would they want to work with S&S again after The Green Lantern?

There's only so many manufacturers that bigger parks are going to want to buy from. Imagine if they blacklisted Intamin because of Doomsday?

Batwing has been just fine. We know S&S relationships were soured over GL but time heals all wounds. it's possible, but I love the suggestion of replacing vortex with a swing...

I think they would, Green Lantern's ride model wasn't as tried and tested as the Screamin' Swing is. They have been building them for 20 years now and a majority are still in operation with more being built pretty consistently

I agree, but my wish is they replace Vortex with one of these. Swinging over the water would be awesome.

Honestly... given that VRTP have moved rides in the past. I actually think VORTEX would be suited more to movie world than sea world. I'd happily see them move it to MW and put a Screaming Swing in at Sea World. However this would only be a good idea if the ride actually ran a decent cycle (which can be done, no idea why Sea World runs it the way it does).

Not sure how Village feels about S+S though, as Batwing actually had a fair few problems when it first opened as well. I'm hoping that they have fixed that relationship as I think a Free Spin could actually go well at Sea World as another thrill coaster to really round out the lineup (1x kiddie coaster, 2x family coasters, 2x major thrill coasters). It also doesn't take up much space which would really suit Sea World. a 2 for one deal maybe? ;)
