Motocoaster Permanent Closure

Shutting the torture chamber while the ride count’s still on the low side, feels like removing seats from a lifeboat. Very strange.

What is your proposed alternative? How do they redevelop that area with new rides unless they close it?

Funnily enough, just after Bermuda launched at Futuroscope, I played around with AI to envision a rocking boat attraction in the MC plot. Theming-wise, the Tasmans have established an expedition ba

  • Maybe we should just take a moment on all this breathe in, out, etc.. Seriously, calm the fuck down everyone! Has Dreamworld management given you many reasons for concern over their creative direction

I think they need something that continues the rivertown theme, interacts in some way with the river, and has a large capacity.

Dreamworld has not announced any redevelopment plans for the area. Given how quickly they’ve revealed every other attraction in the last 5 years, the silence feels telling. Unless they’ve returned to pretending the very visible coaster construction somehow isn’t happening.

Disagree, I think everything from the past 5 years show they know what they are doing.

The silence doesn't feeling telling whatsoever imho.

This is what I was replying to.

I never said they didn’t know what they were doing. It’s possible the plan was simply that the ride was due for a major service, and DW didn’t think it was worth spending the money when they planned to remove it in a couple of years anyway. DW might have a plan but the silence it telling me, what they want to do isn't happening tomorrow.

If Intamin can cram in a hot racer into the tiny plot that Luna Park’s one sits on and still make a good ride, imagine what they could do on motocoaster’s spot which is much larger. Could get something decent out of that.

Interesting to see which way they go, with the piggy bank not quite as full as it was two years ago

Their cash position is still extremely healthy, not to mention they still ended up reporting a growth in their cash inflow over the 6 months, with the King Claw capital costs being absorbed within operating cash flow.

Cash at rebuild is not an accurate reflection of total investment costs. During that period, cash reserves continued to be deployed across a range of initiatives, including buy-back schemes, which are an example of non-direct investment expenditure.

A large-scale investment for a Village or Coast asset would typically sit within the $20M–$30M range. In the current environment, any capital deployment beyond that level would generally require a robust and well-substantiated return on investment case.

While it appears unlikely, based on Greg’s comments during the call, if a decision were made in the coming months to proceed with an investment of that scale, and allowing for a 16–20 month delivery and opening timeline, current operating performance of DW/WWW and capital investment trends indicate the business could reasonably absorb up to two-thirds, if not more, of the project costs through operating cash flow, while still maintaining a healthy cash position.

The now closed "Motorcoaster" was a perfect symbol of where DW went completely off the rails. Shocking location for the ride and totally destroyed Longhurst's great orginal layout and theming!

The motor coaster didn’t detract from the area any more than the TOT track did. There’s nothing unusual about a park relocating a ride to make space for a new one, and they could just as easily have removed the Vintage Cars entirely from the park. The real problem was what they considered acceptable for the Vintage Cars compared to what the attraction used to be.

Popped into the park today and noticed that the train has now been taken off the track. No other noticeable changes though. IMG_0107.jpegIMG_0108.jpegIMG_0112.jpeg

It's sitting in the maintenance bay. If you zoom in on the launchtrack/station, you'll see that the switch track is set to the maintenance bay. You can also see the plastic windshields of the bikes in the maintenance bay. Seems like it will be SBNO for a while.
