Funnily enough, just after Bermuda launched at Futuroscope, I played around with AI to envision a rocking boat attraction in the MC plot. Theming-wise, the Tasmans have established an expedition ba

  • Maybe we should just take a moment on all this breathe in, out, etc.. Seriously, calm the fuck down everyone! Has Dreamworld management given you many reasons for concern over their creative direction

I think they need something that continues the rivertown theme, interacts in some way with the river, and has a large capacity.

Yea I thought the same, or cost cutting. No point doing the annual maintenance if it gets teared apart the following year

If you thought the same, why would you expect Dreamworld to have concrete plans when Motocoaster shut down well before its expected lifespan?

They don't make such a decision on the whim, it's just unexpected from Dreamworld. They've got a good track record of doing this quickly including ABC Kids World into Rivertown and The Claw into King Claw. Months of planning would've went on behind the scenes with these attractions to ensure that once they were ready to close a replacement would be up sooner rather than later. Is it the right decision to close a ride like this without a clear plan, no. But I understand that there might be some factors beyond the parks control (and out of their budget) that contribute to this.

I thought they were relatively careful with the wording of its closure never explicitly saying it was permanently closing. Off the top of my head they said the end of this chapter (or similar).

I think it was in one of the emails or media releases as I posted this shortly after the announcement

Them saying it’s permanently closing is them saying it’s being removed. If it was being refurbished, they would’ve said that. Motocoaster is gone for good!

It was an email that Dreamworld sent to Jaggs Journeys that said the ride was “closing to get ready for its next chapter”, which I still think is weird wording and kind of implies a retheme. I highly doubt it will end up simply being Motocoaster 2.0 though. I think it’s possible that the new ride might use some of the bones of MC in places, but will have so many changes and modifications that it will essentially be a new attraction.

From Dreamworld's half year presentation results:

"The closure of the MotoCoaster was announced after almost 20 years of service, with strategic options for its replacement under review"

With Moto Coaster and Jet Rescue using the same launch technology (not electric unsure the tech) and suggestions that JR has been slowed down over the years (I can't find any evidence) I wonder how long JR will stay in its current form.

All the other Intamin Family Launch coasters use electric motors for each launch wheel, while MC and JR use a system of hoses and I'm guessing that are hydraulics. I have attached photos as to show what I'm talking about from Motocoaster, Jet Rescue and, Wave Breaker.

First I'm hearing of this, JR rips around and has since it opened!

On another note the systems used for these hydraulic launches are SIGNIFICANTLY different from the accelerator ones. It wouldn't surprise me if we do see an electric motor conversion one day as its clone was built with them.

I’ve only heard about it online in comments suggest that it’s slowed down through the years, I’m unsure if it’s even possible to reprogram a launch to a new speed.

A bunch of wooden planks have now been added to the Motocoaster entrance gate. I’m pretty sure these are new, as I’ve never noticed them before.

I went there on Sunday and noticed it too, i believe it is new. It looks much better than the ugly gate from before imo, but they need to sort this ride out soonish.

Work has begun to pick up on the site.

Clips that kept the cables under the launch track in place have begun to be removed leaving the cables to hang down as if ready to be discarded.

The other train that’s been in the maintenance bay since closing has been removed from the site.

Work is concurrently taking place on the water tanks by the ride but it’s currently unknown if it’s for draining of them or perhaps general upkeep.

Predicting what’s going on with the Motocoaster plot is going to be really difficult with so many clues and the current movement on site pointing to many different possibilities as of now. Hope the announcement comes sooner rather then later so we can at least have a good idea of what their Motocoaster plans are going to be.

@Smol bean Even if a ride is never running again, engineers still have to, isolate hydraulic / pneumatic systems, remove stored pressure, drain fluids & eliminate any chance of accidental movement.

My guess is they’re de-energising the system and bringing it into a safe state. Why they’re doing it at this exact time, I’m not sure.

I remember hearing that the parks usually avoids doing major ride work when it’s visible to guests during operating hours. Now that the ride is 'permanently closed' it must be an appropriate time to start doing the work you mentioned as before park hours and after park hours are more expensive and to the regular folk it looks like something new and exciting is coming there.

I think the point was more about the fact that the ride closed at the start of february, and we've seen virtually no movement for 2.5 months, with some theorising that maybe they were waiting until after the easter holidays.

Now, all of a sudden in the middle of school holidays, they suddenly start pulling things off the ride.

That is what is curious about the timing, not that they're doing it in view of guests during operating hours.

No rides are shut for Easter maintenance, so there’s probably a few spare people kicking around who can get thrown onto it.

“The Load Station - The Hero Discovery”

Was what I could make out

Themeparks-au reckon it says Mars Discovery and, if this is true, Intamin have a spinning coaster called Objectif Mars. Interesting at the very least.
