Fire and ambulance crews are on standby as the eight people remain stranded in the dark at the St Kilda amusement park, a Metropolitan Ambulance Service (MAS) spokesman said. The chaos started when a power blackout hit the St Kilda entertainment hub after 10pm (AEDT). "There are traffic lights out all over the place," MAS spokesman Ray Rowe said. "All the power has gone out ... there are about eight people 30 metres up on the ride." There are no early reports of injuries. About four ambulance units have arrived and other emergency services are converging on the famous fun park. A Victoria Police spokesman said motorists were urged to take care in the St Kilda district until power could be restored. It was not clear what caused the power blackout, the police spokesman said.

15 rescued from Luna Park rides December 29, 2007 - 1:50AM Source: ABC Fifteen people who were stuck on two Luna Park thrill rides have now been rescued by fire crews. Ambulance officers attended the scene but everyone is now back on the ground safely. Earlier, Melbourne Fire Brigade commander Terry Kimpton said he noticed smoke while working to get the people in Luna Park safely to the ground. "They were trapped on the ferris wheel and on the rollercoaster," he said. 'The smoke started billowing out across the Luna Park where I was working, so I came across to see what was actually involved." Meanwhile three elderly people have also been rescued from an RSL in St Kilda after a poker machine caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished but thick smoke moved into the upper levels of the four-storey building. There are no reports of injuries.
