Part 3 of Ian's construction pic's : Sea World Ride Construction I don't know about the section after the first launch judging by the space at the bottom of corkscrews lift/turnaround its not going to be enough room to do much apart from just a simple turn around :( I hope I'm wrong and they do something exciting with the space that they have. zane.

http://themeparkphotography.com/gallery/di...&fullsize=1 Haha, they buried the track....somehow I think it would have been easier to just remove the track so construction vehicles could get through. Edit: And what is the 'swimming pool' you can see on the inside of corkscrews final turn. http://themeparkphotography.com/gallery/di...&fullsize=1 You can see they are digging out so that answers questions about whether water will be in it. But one thing, I wish they had made that bit of track over the launch more like an airtime hill. http://themeparkphotography.com/gallery/di...&fullsize=1 The logo looks like Aussie Worlds, and the track in the image is clearly surfrider. http://themeparkphotography.com/gallery/di...&fullsize=1 Oh, and in this shot you can see the lagoon for the new stingray exhibit. The ride seems a bit abbreviated though, hope the theming is nice... Edited by Gazza

Ok so just by looking at those aerial shots (great idea by the way... I have had trouble understanding the layout of this coaster until seeing those shots) am I right in saying this ride covers significantly more area than Dreamworld's Motocoaster? The 2 launches also look very promising as we all know one of the many problems with Motocoaster is that it dies half way through. How much more track is left to be constructed? Is there still quite a bit more track to go up in that area next to the Bermuda show building?

Just having a couple of ideas here. Why have they wrapped this section of track up after they have just installed it? What are they protecting it from? http://themeparkphotography.com/gallery/di...&fullsize=1 I think it would be easier to cover one section of track with soil then to remove the piece that has been covered up with soil. To my understanding you would have to remove other pieces as well to remove the one piece in question. Just a side note, the more I see this new attraction unfold the more keyed up I am becoming. It looks like it will be a lot of fun and I am counting down till it opens. Just another side note, sorry, Gazza I think you should get more photos this weekend because I do enjoy your thought of what you think is happing and you can never have enough photos of the construction of a new attraction.

The only track that remains to be built is the turnaround after the launch. Someone will be wishing they had proper vehicle access to that central section of track when it comes time for maintenance or there's need for emergency access (train valleying etc.). You can see why it'd be easier to just bury the track during construction when you consider the effort needed to get a crane back into that area, jimmy out a section of track locked in with the track beside it. Uncovering it again... if I were Intamin I'd look forward to the call for a replacement section of track because they somehow broke one with a backhoe.

From what we can see of these pics, it will be a simple turnaround, with a bit of a dip \ climb in that rockery area. It will be simple, but the speed of the turnaround (straight off the launch rail) should be adequate thrill enough without any other elements.

Yes well - the last promotional photo had Corkscrew track on it - and we all picked that in a heartbeat - at least this is the same colour - it would be pretty obvious to guests if they're looking at a billboard of the ride, and it had white track, and the ride in front of them was clearly blue. As we all know - WVTP people do read the boards, and I think we can all rest smugly in the fact that that little detail, while small, was picked up here first. It does seem abbreviated, but for the cost of the ride, lets consider - 1. First coaster in seaworld in years. 2. Element of difference to standard sit-down coasters, which we have had a bucket load of. 3. Multi-launched, which, unless you count scooby, hasn't happened in Aus before. 4. It is a family coaster, so we don't want to be having kids terrified for more than two minutes at a time. 5. While I do hope it isn't SLOW, the family element, and the call for two launches tells me the speed might not be "superman fast". If they can give it a decent theme, and a decent story behind it, it would stretch it out a little to make it worthwhile. They could even "stop" on the second launch, to extend the story, and make the ride experience a little longer.

My guess is it is a tight little squeeze between that part of track and the show building for bermuda, and heavy machinery will need to go in there to get over the dirt mount on the next turn. There are little mounds of dirt piled up that aren't from construction, so that would indicate to me the start of theming, rockery and the like. I'm not sure if thats what you were referring to before gazza? I do hope they're going to be doing something with the surrounds, to hide all the buildings and maintenance accesses there are around there. Has anyone given thought to the layout of the station? My guess is access will come from corkscrews viewing area side, but the access from bermuda would be good too. Looking at construction, I'm thinking it is going to have to be bridged over, and step down into the station like viking or bermuda. On the layout of the station, with the exception of the final turn, the whole ride could be just awesome if the turn we are referring to as turn 1 - the one yet to be completed (or the last one to be completed) were actually the LAST turn, big sweeping turn before the station, I think it would have been better - in otherwords reverse the direction of the train. Thoughts? (and yes I know the brake run would need to be changed, and the L turn the brake run is on would need to change) Other than that I can see a quality coaster going on here, and cannot wait to see the level of theming WVTP put into this one. Hopefully, they live up to the standard of their animal exhibits, and other rides (ex-corkscrew), which all have a level of "real-life" theming that is unmatched. (Yes - Movie world has great theming, but as it isn't "Real life" theming - its all movies and make believe - they have additional license that you couldn't get away with in sea world.)

  • 2 weeks later...

This was too obscure to put in the main update, but remember in TPPs update there was an odd swimming pool thingy inside the last turn of Corkscrew: http://themeparkphotography.com/gallery/di...&fullsize=1 Well now there is a tent over it. post-88-1224401497_thumb.jpg I'm guessing during construction they discovered an alien artefact, so they decided to seal it in concrete, and now they are using the tent to hide all the experiments on it happening. Other than that, only minor things happening, the first turn is as predicted, just a simple loop. Personally I would have done more with the first part of the ride...Had a hill following the first launch, then curve down under the monorail and around a ground hugging u turn, before a smaller hill that goes under the larger one, before the turn into the second launch. Even if the layout is a bit short they seem to be serious about the theming....I mean real rock instead of fake is a nice start.

I'll try and get an update over the next few days. I haven't been down for the past couple of weeks, partly because I have been bogged down with other stuff, partly because I knew if I went down the only changes on site would be a few besa block builidngs or some other boring thing like that. Stuff like theming always seems to get done at the last minute.

The MyFun website has added a Jet Rescue section: Join the Sea World Rescue team on an exciting mission to save our precious marine life on the all new Jet Rescue coaster. Climb aboard your Jetski and zoom around the amazing track, flying and twisting past pristine rock pools at an exhilarating 70km/hr. Then enter the dark and dangerous blowhole cave where a sea lion waits desperately for your help. Blast through the cave and release the pressure, allowing the majestic sea lion to escape to safety. Then return to Sea World as marine rescue heroes. Join the rescue mission today – we need your help! Sounds great! I'm loving the blowhole cave idea... There is also a new bit about Ray Reef which mentions an opening date of the 15th of December

Sounds pretty interesting, I have been wondering how exactly they would pull off the idea of rescuing an animal, since it would have to be a situation that wasn't too unpleasant (Eg no animals with broken bones, or oil covered penguins or whatever) but I guess this fits the bill. It sounds a bit odd though....pressure being released in a blowhole cave? I'm hoping there are some 'animal'tronics in this...a sea lion in the cave yelping helplessly, and then another sea lion at the end of the ride sitting on some rocks yelping happily (perhaps even doing something cheeky like spitting water). Inherently this sounds like it will have some nice theming still to be built up (since rocky caves etc need to be built), but I hope the station gets some love too, make it look like the headquarters of the marine rescue division, with different departments you wander through (Eg boat maintenance, tanks with small animals ready for release, rescue equipment storage and a control room with oceanographic maps and a communication hub where rescue calls come in.

^ Well with two launches and a far more twisted layout, I think it's a given - this will be a far superior experience compared to DW's poorest investment. Isn't it amazing that by throwing a few extra million bucks at an attraction, how much it improves the overall experience? I'm intrigued by the enclosed scene - it sounds fun!! I can imagine it involving some turbulant water effects as well as some projectors perhaps? I too hope for some animatronics in the ride but I certainly wouldn't count on it! WVTP's have been moving away from AA's for some years now and when they are used, (AKA Scooby) they are more like moving statues - which is fine with Scooby, they merely compliment the attraction & as you are moving by so quickly you don't get a good chance to check em out anyway. The reason for the shift is general upkeep and the high cost of ongoing maintenance. Take for example the Looney Tune's River Ride - since removing a dedicated Sally Animatronic's specialist about a decade ago, the show has progressively gotten worse - an absolute shame because with that attraction, the Animatronics ARE THE SHOW!! It is one of the Park's flagship attractions that has been going downhill for years. MW Management I hope you read this and pay attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mmm... I'd love to see the indoor area themed like Bermuda Triangle. That flood scene just before going into the volcano is one of the best effects seen on any ride in Australia IMO. If the theming is anything on Par with Bermuda Triangle this will be a great ride. I also think having a pre-launch scene like Superman Escape could have worked really well with this ride. I am sure that WVTP won't dissapoint though.
