Adventure World New Coaster - Abyss

Most Eurofighters are built on a flat plot, doesn't necessarily mean its the standard 320 version. Also I'm pretty sure the other three 320 models around the world cost a lot less than $12 million - even if you accounted for shipping costs to Australia.

$12 million I think it's safe to say probably includes the Perth construction costs, and theming(no doubt there will be some on this ride, more than the usual Adventure World rides anyway). It costs more to build stuff in Australia than most other countries.

Still don't follow..You can still spend heaps on a ride, but not bother with any theming, if you put all the money into just making the coaster bigger.

See SkyRush at Hersheypark as an example, or Gatekeeper at Cedar Point, no theme at all, just a tidy looking station building, and heaps of concrete.

I mean there's Eurofighters:

And there's Eurofighters:

Based on the way the rest of Adventure world is, I can't really see much different to how they present their other thrill rides, so I'm guessing no real theme to speak of, just a catchy sounding name.

If anything, I'd like to at least see the ride neatly landscaped with some grass underneath it and some nice plants. I don't like the way that SPEED: No Limits was done (The first of 2 pictures Gazza posted) but with all the cranes it's safe to say it was still under construction. It's very easy to build a very nice looking ride that doesn't require huge amounts of theming. I mean really, look at Escape From Madagascar at Dreamworld. That ride doesn't have much theming really but they have at least made the area around the ride look nice and even under the track with the grass.

I visited Oakwood last year and the area around Speed is much nicer now with more grass and landscaping, so yes it was just an early photo. But I agree, I think its unrealistic to expect a ton of immersive theming and I'd much rather a good thrill ride with a simple but nicely presented area.

I think it is a great idea you're putting forward. Besides I think most of the extra cost was probably construction costs over in Perth.

That's what it looks like to me. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151619937784564&id=92438924563&set=a.10151586950779564.1073741829.92438924563&refid=17 The Buildings seen in that timelapse update are gone? I presume they were it? Edited by colliric_855

Umm firstly Footers do not exist. They are called Footings and they don't arrive in site. They are created and built (ie poured) into the ground. There's some rebar in that photo but that could be for any concrete works.

Yeah I already knew that. It's their less formal nickname(google "Concrete Footers", you'll see they are the same thing as "Concrete Footings"). Oh and the actual supports(steel tubes, set in concrete slabs) do arrive onsite. I'm thinking they're it. Why would you show rebar for anything else in anticipation of a ride? What else would they be for? Especially when we know the tracks are on their way over? In fact, no need to Google, here's a site that uses both words: http://www.ehow.com/how_7714099_pour-concrete-slab-footers.html Edited by colliric_855

Which shot has pics of supports in the car park? I cant see what you mean :S

Could have just been ripped out of the ground of the buildings and ready to take to the dump.... But might not be. The tubes look fairly new. Yeah probably the old building supports and footings come to think of it(looks like the same color as the building's poles on the right, now I see it). Edited by colliric_855

Arent they just fence posts or something, hence being thin square section steel, with dirty lumps of concrete at the bottom where they have been pulled out of the ground.

No, in fact as I edited my post I realize it's pretty obvious they are the old Building footings/footers(as the photo description also kind of hints). Still interesting to see how large the ride actually will be... Didn't realise they'd rip the buildings down. I guess Adventure World isn't exactly missing them, taking ride construction pics showing their ripping them apart. Pretty obvious the ride will extend into the area shown in the timelapse videos. For starters the support arent delivered to site attached or pre set into to concrete blocks....Go check out the parkz updates showing the process of building a coaster, such as the one at SW. A concrete footing is formed up and poured on site, and has bolts positioned into it by workmen. The support tubes are delivered to site and have a connector plate with holes in it. This is lowered by a crane to line up with the bolts which are poking up, then finally secured into place. Besides, cant you tell from the pic those small steel members sitting in a pile are way too small compared to your average coaster support? They also lack any plate at the other end to attach track onto. Edited by Gazza

Yep can see that now. Just wondering what they were, it's the most interesting pic of the three new ones(the other two don't show much except building demo). They're clearly the old building supports, similar color as the one that's still standing there in the pic on the far right(it's a dark blue steel frame). Plus the description hints these pics are to do with the building demolition. Plus the other two pics are demolition pics too. Should have immediately connected this to the description, my bad, sorry! Anyone know what was in these buildings? Or how much space they took up? Edited by colliric_855

Example of how footers are constructed:

Concrete poured, with bolts sticking up out ready:

http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/4,1,5219-Green_Lantern_construction.html

Look middle left, you can see a square plate at the bottom of the support column with predrilled holes that will marry with the bolts sticking out of the ground:

http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/4,2,5220-Green_Lantern_construction.html

Footers aligned over and onto the bolts that were sticking up,

http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/4,4,5222-Green_Lantern_construction.html

Nuts and washers are used to get the level of the footing to the correct height datum, such that there is a gap between the concrete and the underside of the plate at the bottom of the column:

http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/11,3,5426-Green_Lantern_construction_continues.html

Finally, the 'gap' gets grouted in:

Another example of grouting in the gap at the base of the support:

I'd say are just a bunch of the gross lilac coloured purple fence posts seen everywhere around the park that they've taken down:

http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Perth/Adventure_World/12,3,6189-Two_Thrills.html

The building they have demolished was the toilet and change block near rampage, which wasn't on steel piers.

Cool. Thanks. Did not know the fences were covered like that, that makes sense. There was an attraction over here before was there? This looks great. They've got plenty of room now which is good. It was the Building in the Timelapse videos right? Edited by colliric_855

A German coaster discussion forum has started discussing Adventure World's coaster. One member posted pictures from the Gerstlauer factory and seem to think that the track in the pictures is heading to Adventure World. At the very least we can see an orange Hapag Lloyd in the background of one picture just like the one in Adventure World's photo.

Surprised nobody has posted these pictures on here yet. Kind of worrying when a German coaster forum knows more about a new attraction in an Australian park than we do ;)
