Adventure World New Coaster - Abyss

Saw the promo on AW's page with the hooded figure - I KNEW the random hooded person in the time lapse video from a while back was more than a coincidence!

Who would've thought Adventure World of all parks would put a subtle bit of viral marketing in (well, it would be viral marketing if enough people had seen it).

Did anyone on here from Perth see the "news story"? Don't think the site has many Perth members, unfortunately, so the rest of us may have to wait.

I called a friend in Perth that saw it. They apparently gave the estimated opening date(as December). But otherwise it was mostly information we on the site already know. It's a clone of Saw, etc. Edited by colliric_855

I saw that AW mentioned that on their facebook page. I'm surprised they so blatantly stated that it's a clone of Saw. After all, they could pass it off as a custom ride and 90% of the public wouldn't know any better.

Or maybe I'm more surprised that the teenager on minimum wage who runs the Facebook page knows what Saw the Ride is (puts on flame suit ready for people to yell at me about PR).

Have to agree with you, me and only a couple of others on the site and in Australia (my age) would know what it was. That is how PR is, it shit's me.

What shits me even more is that the ATAR to get into Journalism is 96 in Melbourne and those that are journalists don't give a care in the world for true information.

Yay, something we agree on. Also I hate it when a singular company has a state rivalry between various parts of their own management and doesn't create one singular national umbrella website for their own "Network" because of it. Pisses me off. Seriously why aren't the "other versions of Today Tonight" allowed their space on the actual official Today Tonight website! The idea of a "National Network" is that all the Sub-companies etc are supposed to Network together and share their resources. Why does Seven Perth have it's own different official website at all? seriously in over 15 years they've never been able to agree Yahoo7.com.au is the "full official network website"? Because it's Today Tonight. Seriously, my first thought when I saw the promo on the Adventure World page was the fact that people would be exposed to dangerous amounts of Today Tonight.

Interestingly Saw the Ride is listed as costing 13.5 million pounds, which at the current exchange rate is over $22 million. I know a lot of that would have been theming, but a good chunk would have been for the actual ride, so I'm amazed that Adventure World is only paying $12 million, especially considering transport costs.

***Waits for Jacob*** haha :P

"Tight security surrounds the theme and name of the new roller coaster, which will be announced on Friday 13 September 2013. The ride is scheduled to open this November in time for Adventure World’s “Fright Nights” event"

"The roller coaster will feature three inversions through daylight and a secret dark ride section as well as a zero-g-roll, rollover loop, cobra roll and inline loop. Offering an adrenaline pumping journey over 630 metres, riders will experience turns, drops and flips while they spin in the air and in the dark."

The full press release:

GET SET FOR THE MOST THRILLING RIDE OF YOUR LIFE

After much speculation and anticipation, Adventure World today unveiled details surrounding the $12 million elite attraction to launch this summer – a world-class, adrenaline-pumping roller coaster. Boasting the latest and most advanced white-knuckle ride technology in Australia, the spectacular custom built Gerstlauer Eurofighter roller coaster will reach -1 to 4.5 G-Forces – a thrust greater than that experienced during a space shuttle launch. Already billed as Australia’s most thrilling rollercoaster, the hair-raising ride is the single largest investment in Adventure World’s 30-year history – a move that will firmly place the state on the world theme park stage. The roller coaster will feature three inversions through daylight and a secret dark ride section as well as a zero-g-roll, rollover loop, cobra roll and inline loop. Offering an adrenaline pumping journey over 630 metres, riders will experience turns, drops and flips while they spin in the air and in the dark. With the highest peak reaching 30 metres above the ground, eight passengers can travel on one of four cars, with riders sitting in two rows of four. CEO of Adventure World, Mark Shaw, said the looping coaster features a unique 10 storey high vertical lift, more than vertical 100 feet drop, giant G-Force turns and head spinning twists. “This is a thrill ride like no other,” he said. “It features the broadest range of G-Forces and speed for a theme park ride in this country; it’s going to be the most exciting and exhilarating ride visitors to Adventure World have ever experienced. “At full speed, those brave enough to experience it will be propelled at over 85km/hr during a two minute heart pounding journey, experiencing G-Forces close to those achieved by Formula 1 cars at corners or pilots catapulted off a Navy aircraft carrier. “We’re pushing the boundaries and exceeding the expectations of thrill seekers this summer and we’re hugely excited to bring this elite coaster to WA, the first of its kind in Australia. Put simply, riders are in for an awesome experience in just over four months time. We expect crowds of thrill seekers to jump at the chance to potentially shred their vocal chords come November,” concluded Mark. Codenamed "Mi1", construction on site at Adventure World commenced in May 2013. 45 forty-foot long shipping containers have been quietly arriving in Fremantle Port from Gerstlauer, the specialist roller coaster manufacturer in Germany. CEO of Tourism WA, Stephanie Buckland, said it was great to see one of Western Australia’s much-loved tourist attractions investing in what promises to be an extraordinary experience. “Over the past few years Adventure World has added new attractions and upgraded some of its existing facilities and now with the addition of this exciting world-class roller coaster, the park is a great tourism asset that can continue to be enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.” Tight security surrounds the theme and name of the new roller coaster, which will be announced on Friday 13 September 2013. The ride is scheduled to open this November in time for Adventure World’s “Fright Nights” event where guests will be able to experience the thrill of riding the new coaster in the dark! Early bird season passes are on sale now till 30 September 2013 and are available online from adventureworld.net.au. Adventure World opens it doors for the 2013/2014 season on Thursday, 26 September 2013.

The second part that Randy highlighted in the post above is interesting though: three inversions yet they list five. Also, it's 90m shorter than Saw so I doubt it is a perfect clone.

I'd guess that 90m is simply that left turn that Saw takes after leaving the dark section and it's turn right back into the station. This one probably will just go straight out into the lift hill judging by the space they've got to work with. And straight back into the station. No turns. As Gazza kinda pointed out earlier(not going to turn into the hillside). Glad I booked January for this, but kinda was hopeful would be closer to the first week or two of it's opening. ^ Also notice that the hooded figure is very similar to the one shown in the timelapse video from way back - knew it meant something. And Saw is the only ride themed to an actual horror franchise. There are quite a few rides themed to horror, the most obvious one to compare being Thirteen at Alton Towers.

Would you count The Twilight Zone drop ride as having a "Horror theme based on a Franchise(Film and Television)"? It's certainly got a "Supernatural theme".

Alright, only horror themed roller coaster then. Thorpe Park are probably just pushing that without any real claim to it though.

I know there was a Twilight Zone movie but let's face it, twilight zone is a tv show; the movie wasn't that successful (just ask Vic Morrow) and was nothing special.

Leonardo Dicaprio intends to try it all over again(Film Revival, he's hopeful to start a big budget "Anthology film series" for his Appian Way company, in which each "Twilight Zone" sequel has it's own unique standalone 2 hour Sci-Fi or Horror story).

As does Director Bryan Singer(Attempting to spark a full television revival on CBS)..... in two entirely diffrent "Twilight Zone" projects....

Adventure World has released more pictures from last week's photo shoot on their facebook page. They're really downplaying the Saw 'clone' aspect, which is nice to see. Should be interesting to see how close it gets to the chair lift ride that they have nearby. They've even changed that ride's description on their website.

One comment seriously pissed me off - Andrew Charles I will not go on it keep jobs in Australia not Germany wrong

Holy mother of God, how braindead retarded and over patriotic can a single human being be? I invite Andrew to try find a company in Australia that manufactures coasters. Oh wait, the only coaster in Australia built by a home grown company is currently rotting in the Blue Mountains. Not to mention the fact that almost all of the construction workers on the site will be Australian, there will likely only be a couple of supervisors from Gerstlauer.

/rant, that just really pissed me off beyond belief.
