Sea World maintenance

I know Sea World had dolphins before 1996, so where did they used to be?

At the front of the park where all the dolphin pools are, and surrounding Adventure Island at the back of the park

yes the dolphin show was once where the seal show is now

I find it very interesting to learn about the history of the parks.

One small bit of Sea World history I have known for many years is that some of the dolphins came from Marineland, which was an indoor attraction in Adelaide. I lived in Adelaide when Marineland closed and they sent the dolphins to Sea World.

That was over 20 years ago, but it's possible one or two of Sea Worlds current dolphins are direct descendants of those. Dolphins can live a long time, so there's even a small chance one or two are the actual ones from Marineland still.

Yes I believe the Dolphins and Seals used to share the same arena - and the show combined both animals. 

I think I have some old photos from that show somewhere around - i'll see if i can dig them out.

I know this is going to crush you Push... But Jupiters have announced the monorail is being demolished when they start the new tower...

My Dad is actually working on a part of that project...

No huge shock there. The Monorail, much like Sydney's, went virtually nowhere. In fact, Jupiter's Monorail linked the casino to a hugely irrelevant and largely vacant shopping mall that was maybe passable in the 90's but is at best a country strip mall compared to Pacific Fair or Robina Town Centre. The writing's been on the wall for a long, long while.

New question, can these trains be retrofitted to Sea World's monorail tracks? (Air-con = win).

I doubt SW will get them, the cars will probably get donated to a museum.

Wasn't the hole (pun intended) issue with SW getting air con the small clearance to make it through corkscrews track?

if so should be no reason they couldn't no be air conditioned.

More very sad news today about the Broadbeach monorail.

 

I have sent Sea World a message suggesting they try to aquire the train (or is there two even) so they can run three again during busy periods.

If I get a response of any value I'll mention it here.

 

I like the plans for Jupiters apart from this, but they could build it around the monorail.

Yes, it is probably true that the monorail is nearing the end of its life, but that means it's time to invest in a new one, not destroy it!

If Oasis/ Jupiters want an easy way to dispose of the Monorail, i'm more than happy to talk to them...

This is another nail in the coffin for what is a great transport solution. The sad part is they have hardly been seen as more than tourist transport than a serious transport solution. It's sad that there hasn't been enough push and vision to make a proper transport system out of the Monorail. 

Back on topic. I think the Sea World Monorail system is well patronized enough to justify an upgrade rather than a scrapping when that time comes. That said though, the railway and chairlift were reasonably popular when they were pulled from service..

Problem is that monorail isn't owned by Jupiters, it's owned by Oasis and designed to bring people to the shops, not the other way around. 

 

So it's not really Jupiters not keeping it. 

 

I do feel though that access to the casino from broadbeach proper is crap, so they could do something to improve it. That existing bridge from the convention center is shit.

Went to SW today.

Now I know all rides need maintenance,   But why would you close and do annual maintenance on your biggest ride (storm) in summer considering its a water ride?  

Would this not better suit winter?

Storm Coaster

Storm Coaster will be closed for Maintenance from Monday the 1st of Feb – Sunday 13th March with a scheduled reopening date of Monday the 14th of March 2016.

 

While that would make sense, isn't it technically "off-season" for the parks now?

Maybe it's required maintenance? with the Easter holidays beginning in mid-late March this year rather than April, it really had to be down now or hold out til late April which may not have been possible with maintenance requirements

Even just removing the top to make it look more of 'just a light pole' than a defunct chairlift pole would be nice.
