So the discussion itself obviously wasn't talking about the public holiday day, but @rac2703 is clearly referring to it being the ACTUAL public holiday day, not just the long weekend.

@rac2703 was obviously mistaken, as both Spotty and I attended Dreamworld on Sunday, not Anzac Monday. And yeah, as others have said, that wasn't a public holiday, nor were the other parks closed. 

It was just a very busy day in general. I'm sure the other parks would have been the same (if not worse) on that day, I know Movieworld's car park looked pretty full when we drove past on the way to DW. I guess that's to be expected when it's both a long weekend and the end of the school holiday period for other states.

My guess is that they're renovating the Fairytales building or they're going to replace the old Q4U corner with something new.

On a side note, i'm over this word "precinct" being used for everything new in theme park lore. If it's a new building, call it a new building.

It says external access, so it will have to be right at the front of the park. I'm thinking even the retail shop outside the exit gate? Or in the marketplace there somewhere?

For construction that's going to start in July, they certainly are doing a very early media release about it. And by media release I mean I literally didn't hear about it until a friend shared a 7 News post a few moments ago.

With this thought in mind, I think it's been a constant bugbear for a lot of people over the years that the parks still have this Apple level of secrecy about new attractions because of the Ardent/VRTP rivalry when the reality is in the age of social media even Apple are getting more transparent. Even Disney, a company that once had the same psuedo-Masonry style level of secrecy about new attractions, is releasing video clips and artwork of new areas as they make them.

Granted, there's some interesting folk on here, but every basic digital marketing 101 strategy will tell you something like "engage your loyalists" as step one, and here we are in 2016 being the last to be informed when the reality is we're the ones who will proactively engage a huge audience, tell our friends and share the information around more then anyone else because we love the industry so much. Seems backwards.

I'm jumping out of my skin to buy my son his first lego. it's a few years off obviously - but i can't wait. Lego back in my day was a lot simpler than all this modern ninjago stuff. I guess they moved with the times... now i'm going to have to relearn it all again!

My brother has just bought his first house...  Was complaining that none he was looking at before this one had any rooms large enough to contain his lego collection...  Still thinking we will keep going to Bricks N Fun at Capalaba though as easier to order in rare and old sets or create your own set and buy the individual pieces...

Don't you mean it was a lot more 'creative'? 

"Back in my day" for me wasn't that long ago. I'm only 27, but when I was growing up you had to be more imaginative with Lego. You want a spaceship? Here's some square and rectangular blocks, make what you can and imagine the rest. 

These days it's "put part A in part B - congratulations, you built a rocket". (Obviously not that simple but you get my point).

It's the same as video games - I grew up with Doom. A reasonably open map FPS where you had to find your own way around. Now you've got COD which is more of an interactive story rather than a video game. 

 

I understand that Lego had to evolve, and don't get me wrong, I love what they've been able to make these days and I love building things. (Although I still have a Pikachu Nanoblock thing I still need to put together) but I just can't help but miss the original Lego that taught kids to be more imaginative.

I'm not that much older than you @reanimated35 and for me it was the same. We had a huge bin of random lego pieces, and you'd comb through it for hours looking for that one piece you needed to finish what you were building. Sets were assortments of blocks in different colours that you could do anything with. Few 'models' stayed that way as the pieces were reused and rebuilt a hundred times in many different ways.

These days you take it out of the box, put it together per the instructions, and then it sits on a shelf gathering dust after you played with it once or twice.

The specialised pieces they make these days are cool, and make the models far more realistic - (take a look for example at a modern 'millennium falcon' vs. one from 30 years ago), but it means you can't really use them for anything else, and thats half the fun.

That's why meccano was so much fun - you'd pull it apart, and put it back together differently and voila - something different to play with, until you get bored and start again!

You can still buy the big tubs of Lego (at least you could up till last Christmas), but obviously they can charge more for the sets with all the cool little pieces that make a space ship. My collection growing up was a big tub and a view other one off sets mixed in, I suspect that's the same for most people and that's still the case today.

Also worth noting Dreamworld are advertising a new "VIP Experience" for $1250 per adult and $500 per child. Includes wildlife experiences, gold ride express, a personal photographer for the day and more!

Not for me that one, but I must say it'd be a hell of a day out if you were to buy it.  They're taking the high end ticket thing that Village do at night events and going even further with it, so that's pretty cool.  I also can't see it impacting other guests at all really, so I approve.

Those sort of VIP prices are not a stretch at all for A LOT of people out there. 

There is a great number of wealthy people in Australia and visiting the Gold Coast.

I think you jinxed it because I just popped into DW and it's closed due to technical difficulties, and there were 2 maintenance guys underneath it.
