The Spit Master Plan implications on Sea World.

The Queensland Government has released the “The Spit Master Plan” for public consultation.

The current SW car park is marked to be turned into a Village Centre.  "Which entails a low-rise boutique mixed use development facing The Broadwater and Carter’s Basin provides additional short-term accommodation linked to Sea World and a multi-level car park. Visitors can arrive by ferry or light rail and are provided with a range of connected experiences, including afterhours activities, creating a vibrant new addition to The Spit".

A new Boardwalk on the western side of SW overlooking the Broadwater and connecting the southern spit to the northern spit is also on the cards.

We have previously talked about SW's front entrance. The fact that the front buildings for SW are outlined in blue like the rest of the proposed developments suggests that Sea World's entry would get a facelift too - which i'm supportive of, so that they can actually better organise that whole shitstorm at entry.

This proposal includes a multi level car park, which presumably is intended for theme park patrons, but not at VRTP's cost -

That would indicate a paid parking system, which i'm not against if reasonably priced, although i'm sure plenty of self-entitled passholes will whinge that their 'free day of entertainment' now costs them $12 in parking fees.

There doesn't appear to be provision of Monorail across the new area that would become the carpark, but hopefully they intend to include a monorail station attached to the carpark, and perhaps SW can invest in new rollingstock.

Plus, it would get rid of the shitstorm car park which needs a lot of loving.

The car park has been in a state of disarray for many years and this might be why SW haven't carried out repairs on it.

A small error @Skeeta, this isn't the "Master Plan" but "Master Plan options":

You've shown 1 set of options for SW. There is another set of options:

Another option also mentioned (the park referred to at the quote's start is Muriel Henchman Park):

It seems based on the options that SW's entry buildings will get a facelift as you suggested but it doesn't specifically say that it will be SW's main entry anymore. It seems the new buildings will mainly contain accommodation in the 1st set of options: "provides additional short-term accommodation linked to Sea World" whilst "low-rise mixed use development" will be the new buildings in the 2nd set of options, which would indicate just a refurbished entry building.

Given a 3.7 kilometre boardwalk running the length of SW is proposed in the 1st set of options, I'd say SW would operate like Luna Park Sydney under that option set (as Luna Park Sydney also has a boardwalk running the length of the park) with other entries near Seal Detectives, between Polar Bear Shores and Shark Bay, at Castaway Bay & at the Resort as I'd doubt many people would walk down a boardwalk of that length with not much to do at the other end, which is also a dead end, or along it. The boardwalk's only useful purpose would be as a good jogging route. The view is mostly the same the whole length of the boardwalk after all. This would allow paid parking in the multi-level car park like you said as well as a 'pay per ride'-model to be implemented at SW, meaning their whole future ticketing model may already be under review. Also, the boardwalk between Seal Detectives & Polar Bear Shores may allow SW's Research & Rescue Foundation to have it's own building front onto the boardwalk, further emphasizing VRTP's plans to bring SW's marine research & rescue work to the public's attention.

Under the 2nd set of options, I'd say SW would operate as it does now with 1 main entry in the south (but now with an upgraded entry building) and another (insignificant) entry in the north at the Resort unless the Monorail is still operating, which would make it a more significant entry way as it is now.

Why not? The main issue here seems to be encroachment on Sea World's parking. I fail to see how development on the spit will do anything but draw more attention towards Sea World as people visit the area for other activities.

A new entry to the theme park is positioned to be in close proximity to The Broadwater pathway, ferry terminal and new resort. A plaza between the theme park entry and resort provides a comfortable environment for visitors to gather while waiting to enter the theme park, taking in views across The Broadwater.

A publicly accessible boardwalk extends along The Broadwater edge providing access to and views of the water, and pedestrian and cycle connections between the Village Centre and the Top of The Spit. Glimpses of the activities in Sea World can be obtained from the boardwalk.

A node of activity is located at the intersection of The Broadwater pathway and the east-west

pathway, accommodating a cafe offering views of the water and providing a rest stop along The Broadwater pathway.
