Once the slab is down, I imagine it will only take a couple of weeks for the ride to be installed. And testing to begin soon after. It may seem tight with it now being October. I would imagine it will soft open mid Dec and official on Boxing Day

Nearmap construction update from late September'

Not too much change. Only 3 people on site doing some hole drilling 

Hopefully parts turn up soon if they hope to have it opened by Boxing Day. With construction yet to start and then ride testing to still be done

Nah, they are still getting refurbished at the Dreamworld workshop.. Won't be long before it's sent down to the Spit.

I have heard unconfirmed reports that there has been a change in builder, or actually that a new one is being sought still, which may explain the lack of any real progress in recent times. 

If that’s the case, we might be saying delays with its opening. Depending on how smoothly the construction process is once it starts. But considering November is usually a very wet month, I’m sure there will be some delays 

Wouldn’t say November is very wet on the GC. 

Average rainfall/rain days data show it to be the 7th wettest month of the year. 

Despite that though, most rainfall and rain days in November are afternoon & evening storms so will have little effect on construction timelines. 

The issue will be if there is a construction company physically on hand to build the thing

Disagree.

Storms tend to bring intense rainfall. It makes site prep, and concreting incredibly difficult. Once the foundations and concreting is done, sure, afternoon storms shouldn't delay much, but we're not there yet...

Did someone say delays...If a construction company pulled out surely a breach of contract which would come at a cost unless there was some sought of a termination clause which could include quote variations or regulation requirements etc etc .

Let hope this doesn’t affect our wooden coaster Leviathan from opening December 2020 cause you would expect construction do start January at the latest with a complex build to take 6-9 months to complete build depending if everything match’s up correctly and go to plan

I would imagine the construction company building the coaster would be different from the one doing Vortex. I would imagine Coaster construction will begin after the summer holidays.

All of the SW website has been updated to say Vortex is coming this Summer

Thinking waaay back to when Wipeout was built, DW started levelling the area as late as September and still had no trouble opening it well in time for the busy Xmas season.

I know that was a long time ago, but remember (like Wipeout) this is an otherwise transportable pre-fabricated mid-way ride. The biggest part of it's construction is getting the site ready (level, footings placed,  electrical wiring, landscaping etc). Once all is properly prepared you can expect the ride system itself will get slapped up practically overnight.

no activity happened through the school holiday period, then as soon as it ended lots of site walks and meetings plus more surveying going on then some hole drilling, theres still been plenty activity on the site while no actual building tho,

I'm not disagreeing with you, but one thing to keep in mind is that Sea World's ground preparation will likely take a lot longer than Dreamworld, due to the nature of the shallow water table, and sandy soils.

Absolutely @AlexB the area for the ride footprint appears to have been widened significantly.

Having not visited SW for a while, can someone confirm if the land has been reclaimed north into the Dolphin Lagoon or South into the Ski Lake?

The area that the Vortex is on has not reclaimed any land. Land has been reclaimed south from the lake for Leviathan

Brad's photo says otherwise.

 

I would say the only part taken from the lagoon is the bit of already exiting sand
