Luna park 9 new rides construction

Featured Replies

Can confirm boomerang trains are still covered over and aren't on the track yet, however another ride got installed quickly over the week and Sledgehammer is about to be installed with the platform being worked on and the columns staged on the side

Also, I’ve been accepted as a rides attendant tonight for Luna Park! Training starts soon! Ever since I started playing RCT3 and watching Theme Park Review on youtube 13 years ago, I never imagined it

I don't think Luna Park rides need logos. For the entirety of the park's history, the closest we've had to logos are stylized letters or bridges. If Luna Park just slaps these logos on small signs, that'll be very disappointing.

They should probably follow the theme they've been going for recently, like the signs at the entrances of Tango Train and Volare, or even Sledgehammer based on the concept artwork. Just fancy words.

Take a look at the base of the the original Tumblebug. There's a long mural across the queue with paintings of the iconic bug, the 'main character' of the ride. Since Little Nipper doesn't have a bridge but still has a 'main character', similar paintings of a cartoon shark along the base of the loading platform would IMO give the ride more soul than a fibreglass train and a copy-paste print around the back.

They installed the logo a few weeks ago. So I was expecting for it to look like a Barbie Logo. Nothing too bad about that.

Ugh. That is still such a stupid name. Not even "Whirly Bug" or "THE Bug"; just BUG. Sounds so underwhelming! I can't get over it!

I agree. The words looks a bit underwhelming. But when you sound it. It's too overwhelming! It's something that someone probably will change in the future. Everyone will probably call it "the Bug".

why does that logo make it look like it was made in the late 80s to mid 90s

  1. I'm surprised you'd even know what the mid-2000's looked like.
  2. Luna Park is very much retro-focussed, with classics like the Rotor, the Wild Mouse and Coney Island. Ultra modern and edgy just doesn't fit the theme they've got going to begin with, so if you're picking up retro vibes from it, they've probably hit it on the head.

Based on the logos so far, I doubt there's any intention behind it. Looks like the work experience kid's attempt. All the other recent new rides at LPS payed homage to the 1930's heritage of the park, and did it really well. This is a definite departure.

Why is there a half dot a different size to the rest?

Anyhow, the video is on the ride page

What is also interesting is that we can discern the other ride names by looking at the trophies on the website you can earn for each ride:

The "New Thrill Ride" would indeed be Sledgehammer.

I wonder what they'll do for the Big Dipper logo...

Please, Luna Park, don't depart from what there already is! I just want them to keep the neon Big Dipper sign and leave it as that.

Good Morning everyone. And welcome to another exciting update of the construction.

On Tuesday, I was looking from the Harbour Bridge on the train home, and I went. Oh goodie! A ride that will make me throw up! And that's the Sledgehammer...

When I came back today, the poles that were there last week are now assembled. All that's left is the seats, and the loading platform.

They've been replacing the boardwalk from Coney Island to Luna Land. This is in preparation for the new gate and sign. Which also looks a bit cartoony. That seems to be the coherent theme of this area. Because of the spot that Luna Land is. It's easier to change the theming. This can be seen in lots of parks around the globe!

There have been no other rides put in other than Sledgehammer. They are doing some last jobs on Cloud 9 and Freaky Frog. And are gonna start testing Boomerang. Little Nippers is done.

If you are wondering where these photos are taken at. The close up photos are taken at the Boardwalk and Peter Kingston Walkway. The 'Railway View' is taken on Cliff Street. The 'God's Eye View' is taken at the LPS Office on Glen Street. And views of the Big Dipper and over Coney Island are taken from Harry's Park on Glen Street. (Named after Harry Sidler.)

That's all for today! Next update will be whenever I get there!

Well here are some of my photos of the progress taken this afternoon:

Foundations for the Big Dipper supports are preparing to be concreted:

Good view of the construction of the revamped entry to Maloney’s Corner (though I reckon the other side of Coney Island should be opened up to the public as well which would make the back of the park more connected and feel truly permanent): CF6736C5-673E-4FAD-94E4-2E1BD7A0178B.thumb.jpeg.4ae5193f037676dcffe0694bc0043582.jpeg

Close up views of the (Whirly) Bug, Cloud 9 (which I also find to be a weird name for a ride), and the Freaky Frogs. Plus foundations for the Silly Subs and the Sledgehammer platform: 55BFD43E-4545-4B02-8DFF-F287581A125C.thumb.jpeg.5187d343c7556c87c3186daa808068c9.jpeg

Now this is something I’ve brought up before but I would really like to see the surrounding theming on the Tango Train, Volare and Wild Mouse to be actually finished during these renovations. There’s still minor touches that need to be done and it’s driving me nuts that it’s not completed yet. This is stuff I’ve enquired with the park about before and it’s still not done. So the question is when?
