At the end of the brake track the car reverses onto a sloping bit of of track to the lower level, and guide bars transition riders from on their backs to vertical again.

Suddenly the car is released, and freefalls down. The track curves to horizontal, where it is brought to a stop. The ride pre-dates electromagnetic braking systems, meaning a horizontal brake track was the only feasible way to slow the cars down.
