The ride really is one of the world greats.

Loading of the ride takes place in the room of requirement. The benches move along continuously and guests board on a moving conveyor belt, with the benches attached to the end of robotic arms that run along a track through the building. However this robotic mechanism is hidden from view behind a wall in the loading station. The result is 4 minutes of being tossed and turned and flipped through a chaotic dark ride in a manner normal tracked rides cannot achieve.

Inside the common room, various portraits jabber on about the sport of Quiddich, a ball game played on flying broomsticks, that is the most popular sport amongst witches and wizards. You're set to be flown to the inter house quiddich game via enchanted benches.

The 'fat lady' portrait (portrayed by Dawn French) guards the entrance to the Gryffindor common room. Gryffindor is one of the 4 houses at Hogwarts, and the one Ron, Harry and Hermione belong to.

The halls of the school are filled with talking portraits. The screens behind them have had a special coating put on, that gives the effect of it actually looking like a talking oil painting.

The queue then enters a classroom, and Harry, Ron and Hermione appear from underneath an invisibility cloak. They warn you your visit to the castle will involve a 3 hour lecture on the history of Hogwarts. They however tell you that there is a quiddich match on, which will be far more interesting, and they plan on flying you there to see it!

Your first stop is Professor Dumbledores office. As the school headmaster, he welcomes us "muggles" (The term of witches and wizards for those without magical powers) to the school.

A large section of the queue goes through the Herbology greenhouses. Every major theme park ride inevitably has a section of switchbacks like this, but obviously an effort has been made to work it in with the overall theme.

The first bit of the queue takes you through the dungeons. Down here is where you drop your loose items off in the free fingerprint operated lockers.

The entrance sign takes some cues from the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, with the name of the attraction magically spelled out with fibre optics.

Some clever use of forced perspective makes the castle look very imposing.
