The Parkz Update: Aussie World, June 2011.

We're a fair bunch here at Parkz, so while Dreamworld finishes its theming on Shockwave, we check out Queenslands first Disk'o' ride at Aussie World, as well as progress on other new rides.

General Park

So here we are at Aussie World.
For the unaquanited, it's a pleasant family park on the Bruce Highway, south of Nambour.
The wild mouse was running well, intense as always.
Plenty of nice seating areas, but you could notice that bins seemed to be a bit sparse.
The Arcade was freshly painted.

Note to larger parks: This is how you do an upcharge so it doesn't look tacky.

Redback

Of course, wer'e here to check out the new Disk'o ride, which opened around Easter. They were first to get one open, so we reckon it deserves a visit first!
Riders sit on a circular disk. The disk is on a carriage that shuttles up and down a U shaped track.
A cool little trick we didn't know about. The vehicle spins one direction for the first half of the cycle, then spins the other way for the latter half.
For our international readers, a Redback is a type of venemous Australian spider, hence the spider web theming.
This chassis contains the motors that move the carriage in a self propelled manner. This differs to rides like Surfrider at Wet n Wild, where the carriage is free rolling, and propelled  by track mounted LIMs.
Riders sit in a saddle, and press up against a front panel, a padded T bar sits in a recess below the seat at the back. The T bar swings up 180 degrees automatically and presses against your back, keeping you restrained. It's an automatic system, so it tries to keep applying pressure throughout the ride.
Signage, check.
The ride coming to an end. It's a cool little ride, and feels a lot like a mini version of Dreamworlds claw, with some interesting forces due to the speed of rotation.

Water Shed Plunge

Earlier reports of a flume ride coming to park are indeed true. At the ticket counter there is a large bit of concept art for "Water Shed Plunge", a compact flume ride and water play area.
Construction is well underway.
We guess this is what footings look like before they become footings.
Flume segments are being stored at the North end of the park.
We're serious!
Some are being kept on the hill.
Looking north. The splashdown will most likely be in the foreground with the lifts and drops extending backwards.

Giant Slide

The other new addition coming to the park is a mat slide.
One for the planning application enthusiasts (You know who you are)
The slide is going at the south west corner of the park, behind the Bizzy Buggies and the Wild Mouse.
Its safe to say it will be a hit with the kids. It seems simple stuff like slides as kids attractions is often overlooked at the expense of putting in spinning rides.

Food & Beverage

Parkz stopped for a bite to eat in the cafe. Here are the prices.
$6.80 for an epic footlong dog with grilled onion, cheese and bacon. Smart.

Parkz enjoyed it's arvo at Aussie World. We'll definitley be back to see their new investments when they open.
