Mick Doohan Motocoaster to open at Dreamworld
Construction is underway on Dreamworld's latest coaster, officially named today ahead of its September 2007 opening.
A first for Swiss manufacturer Intamin AG, the Mick Doohan Motocoaster will be the first ride of its kind in Australia.
Unlike previous incarnations of motorcycle roller coasters such as those from Dutch manufacturer Vekoma, Dreamworld's Motocoaster will be the first to feature full-scale replica motorbikes, modeled after 500cc racing bikes.
The ride will be located in River Town on the old Vintage Cars site. The Dreamworld classic was relocated to the back of the park to make way for the new multi million dollar motocoaster.
Mr Greg Shaw, CEO of Macquarie Leisure Trust Group, owners and operators of Dreamworld said: "We are delighted with the launch. The new thrill ride demonstrates Dreamworld’s commitment to introducing cutting edge ride technology and brand new experiences to the Australian market.
"It will complement the park’s existing suite of scream machines including the Giant Drop, Tower of Terror, Cyclone Rollercoaster, Wipeout and The Claw.
Five-time 500cc World Champion and World Record Holder, Mick Doohan was on hand at Dreamworld to reveal plans for the roller coaster.
The roller coaster is expected open for the Queensland September school holidays.
