Dreamworld, the inefficient park?
ScReAMmachine! replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Just a couple of queries... *Why not compare Dreamworld against other parks in a similar capacity... For instance, a more effective 'benchmark' would be parks that get the same number of guests per year with a similar number of attractions. *A David versus Goliath comparison is used which raises concerns about its usefulness in developing an unbiased discussion. *Furthermore in using your 'Actual' values... is this your estimates? Were your estimates also used for Cedar Point? -
Am I the only one having bitter recollections of an old tune... I CAN BE HAPPY

Hey Bus, It was because the lift wouldnt stop on the floor where u guys were!! The pressing of the e-stop and the manual opening of the doors doesnt apply to those type of machinery!!!
-
Disco Bowlin! When and where? I'll be there! LOL
-
A couple of ex-operators couldn't even operate the glass elevator at Panthers without getting stuck in it Wouldn't wanna see what would happen with a ride!! Its okay, ex-maintenance staff were ready to assist!

So what will all you Theme Park junkies do now that the Park has closed it doors? Is it back to the old days of the cinemas or bowling???

Well guys this is it... at 5pm today the gates will close on Wonderland Sydney forever. It was a long time in the making, following many rumors the end is here. Farewell Wonderland!!

Blacktown's only tourist attraction? Take a look at some of the City's other attractions... *Blacktown Leisure Centre (Wave Pool) *Eastern Creek Raceway *International Go-Karting *Blacktown Olympic Park *Featherdale Wildlife Park There's probably more if u visit council's website
-
Why? The deal is (was) already done.

GoBoi, too little, too late mate. Blacktown Council will reap in the big bucks from the proposed industrial park. The enormous employment opportunities will also encourage speedy re-zoning. As for Anzac Day trading, most tourist attractions open at their normal hours so dont go attacking Wonderland as being incompassionate. Anzac Day is about remembering the contributions of men and women in serving our country - there are other ways to pay respect rather than just opening the park later. You might as well complain to the museums, cinemas....

haha Star City! What does Melbourne have? A RSL club pumped on steroids... a.k.a Crown Casino

Should I mention that Sydney has consistently been voted 'World's Best City' - based on location, people, culture, attractions and livability. Okay, you asked for it... 1. Overhead power lines for Trams criss-crossing the city 2. Those annoying Tram stops in the middle of main roads 3. The fact the CBD looks the same... its a grid pattern which i think looses the 'uniqueness' of the city 4. The water in the Yarra is dirty - Murky brown is not inviting! - Not to mention it is not a natural river (it has been diverted). 5. The Citylink tollway is heaps expensive 6. Train stations are only located on the perimeter of the CBD 7. The Beaches are well, to put it nicely, disappointing. There are a few good ones, but they're on the outskirts 8. Icons - Melbourne tries so hard to create an international icon. The latest attempt, Federation Sqaure left me pondering... just what is it? 9. Hook turns! 10. Level-Crossings in the inner and outer suburbs Whilst thats 10 bad things... i can probably name many more good things. Just wanted to point out the 10 bad things Gazza requested. I think its a far cry to say Melbourne was more important than Sydney. Sydney was the lifeblood of the colony. Melbourne, as interim capital, captilised on the economic opportunity to grow and encourage investment. Although this was at a faster rate than Sydney, look where the pendulum is swinging now.

I too have visited the new Luna Park and agree the park is looking in great shape, that is, if you compared it to the previous park. The park itself is a lot more inviting and 'carnival' like but what impressed me the most is the artwork on the main concourse (outside the big top entrance). And speaking of 'inviting'... the bar inside the Big Top Foyer is awesome. The park is a great addition to the Sydney skyline when lit at night and I whilst the Big Dipper is gone, the memory remains with information boards and pictures of the two big dippers. All in all great work to revive a Sydney icon! I would recommend anyone to visit the park for the atmosphere alone.

A theme park would complement the proposal for the refurbishment of Olympic Park in Sydney. The current plan includes a Town Centre, Major Regional Club, Entertainment Precint (including Cinemas, Ten Pin etc...) It would be great to see Olympic Park regain its focus as 'the place to be' in Sydney

Who hasnt been stuck on Skyrider!!?? Although it must have been pretty bad for a supervisor to be worried!

Everyone is entitled to their comment Psycho, even if you don't happen to agree with it. Thats why its called a forum aka discussion.

GoBoi, you mentioned... Then mentioned... Contradiction? I think so.

As Sydney's urban sprawl continues to grow, particulary in the Western Sydney... the opportunity may arise for (dare i say) another theme park. My possible locations would include the area between Liverpool-Camden and Windsor as possible locations. The old Telstra/Defence land in Doonside (bordered by the M7, GWH and Doonside Road) is large enough, inside Blacktown Council and close to Wonderland's site. Homebush Bay would be ideal but would certainly be knocked back for environmental concerns. But in the interim, enjoy luna park
-
Is it possible to develop a new Luna Park forum based on the Sydney park??? Rather than joining it with Melbourne's.

Richard, the Sunway Board of Directors are part of Wonderland's Management team. This involves executives from both the Park itself and its owners in Malaysia. And Richard, I wish you got to see the internal operations of the park before you made this comment

Thunderbolt was the ride that made Dreamworld the great park it is. The visually striking image from the Highway is a landmark and I think should Dreamworld decide to retain it, it would be a great idea. Adults will be able to take their kids to the park and point out what could have been the first rollercoaster they rode. I think it would be incorporated well into whatever plans Dreamworld has made for the former coaster site. Retaining the train also would provide a great photo opportunity.

I must say my feelings are bitter-sweet at the moment. The inevitable had approached however, as many others will agree the feeling wont kick in until I see the dismantlement of Probe. Thats when ill post my response.

The official opening to the public is now on the 4th of April

Dreamworld's layout & future expansion
ScReAMmachine! replied to GoGoBoy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Why on earth would Dreamworld build a coaster so close to the animal exhibit. The great thing about that park is that one moment you feel like you're in a amusement park, the next you're in a wildlife park and it feels you're nowhere near the thrill rides. The only problem I have with Dreamworld is the area around the Giant Drop where pedestrian overpasses resemble a never-ending maze. Looks tacky IMHO
