Bermuda Triangle is officially closed... Now what?
themeparkgc replied to reginaphalange's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'm guessing the volcanoes will definitely be destroyed if the ride system is removed. They could end up doing either of these previously cancelled exhibits. My money leaning towards the seals more than the hippos. Seal Rocks (or my version ) Hippos -
Here's some pics. They look to have went up just before Christmas. Maybe for the Summer Funomenon?

Just a thought but maybe the weather we've been having has made them change the stage to this smaller, tent-covered one. I would've thought they'd use the stage that they sometimes put over their fountain facing that portion of Main Street. As for the roof, maybe they are going to make a giant Ames room.

It seems they shut the park as per normal at 5pm if the weather is bad. This is Dreamworld's response to a query about extended opening hours made yesterday on their Facebook:

Thanks guys. That was really what I was kind of thinking with the interactions. I was also considering running the Vikings Revenge under the exhibit through a tunnel like this but that wouldn't have counted as a new ride nor would it have used any of the space of the Bermuda building. Maybe I could get the lowest or average score awarded to first place entries in this competition thus far? I guess its up to aussienetman though.

How could large holiday crowds delay a show? I understand they could emphasise any maintenance issues with a ride (cause breakdowns etc) but how would they affect a show? Both days mentioned by Klassen were fine sunny days, so inclement weather couldn't be a reason for a show to be cancelled (even then, they have the roof now). In a peak period staffing shouldn't be a concern either. I struggle to understand why any of the shows would be cancelled completely except for the cinema.

Seal Rocks (Sorry I couldn't really think of a better name) Seals at Play closed over 3 years ago to make way for the Sesame Street stage. Beforehand, Sea World had planned to open Seal Rocks. An Intamin AG rapids ride. The main Seal exhibit would be located within the boundary of the former Bermuda station area with the ride stretching out and over the Bermuda shed. The exhibit would have a similar look to that at the Auckland Zoo (below) and would feature above and underwater viewing. Above water viewing would be available around the whole perimeter of the exhibit with underwater viewing only on the northern side. Guests wishing to go on the rapids ride would be directed down a ramp to a narrow (queue-width) underground viewing area which stretches alongside Jet Rescue where the Bermuda queue stands. As they get closer to the ride station the underwater viewing would end and guests would be directed upwards towards a ground level station approximately in-line with the on-ride photo of Bermuda. The ride would begin with a slow lift hill up a rocky mountain landscape. A weaving rapids section would follow and would slowly navigate down part (between 1/3 and 1/2) of the mountain. Cliff faces with fountains would be included in this section along with seal animatronics (including the one from Jet Rescue - retheme Jet Rescue to a different animal rescue). It would culminate in a final splashdown. This layout would require the Vikings Revenge ride to be extended slightly to the north to be able to easily pass under the lift hill and final splashdown. Guests would exit directly onto the ground level of viewing deck of the seal exhibit. If we were allowed to use the grassy patch between Bermuda and the Castle I would have incorporated the seal exhibit into my ride (in a similar style to this).

As far as I know the cinema isn't open yet so those shows would be cancelled. On Monday, Dreamworld were "waiting on a very big shipment to arrive!" (projectors?). The session times online start from the 6th, so that's a probable opening day. Joz, I think Klassen was trying to say that the jukebox show was one of those that was cancelled. Dreamworld have advertised 10 new shows beginning Boxing Day - so they should have 10 new shows beginning Boxing Day regardless of the weather, crowds etc (less shows - maybe, but completely cancelled - no).

The top story on Nine Gold Coast News last night was the bumper crowds at the theme parks (due to the first fine day in weeks). Apparently they set some new records for daily attendance. Does anyone know what these records may have been?

The show finishes on the 23rd but Sea World has said a permanent show would be considered if the summer trial went well.

Hollywood Stuntdriver Update Thread
themeparkgc replied to BNErider's topic in Theme Park Discussion
This sort of thing could easily be added to the Top Rail Premium Package currently on offer. -
The only film that costs during park hours is the screening of TRON at 4:15pm. It seems as if the 11am screening of Megamind is included in admission. There are more sessions than what they had when it was the IMAX so I don't see a problem with it.

It was mentioned last week in The Off Topic Topic. -
Looks like 3D...

I just read an article about Queensland attractions. It concluded by saying:

Sea World 2010 (Castaway Bay & Antarctic Penguins)
themeparkgc replied to themeparkgc's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The $12 million Penguin Encounter will open on Boxing Day with 6 king and 6 gentoo penguins. The article, 40 photos and a video are available here. -
At least it doesn't exist in your workplace. That'd be terrible.

Movie World's White Christmas 2010

No event tomorrow night as far as I can work out. Just a day time parade from Tuesday until Thursday at 3:30pm with snow. Here's the official response from the park: -
Heading to the 3 'VIP' parks over summer
themeparkgc replied to MARK28's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The VIP pass is now discounted to $79.99 making it even more worthwhile. WVTP: $26.66/park vs. Ardent: $34.50/park. I feel Ardent may have a bit of an advantage over WVTP for interstate travellers who aren't that interested in the theme parks but want something to do, don't have too much money to spend (every dollar counts), and only here for a short stay (length of validity is pointless) but WVTP sweeps up everyone else though. As for joz's post I wouldn't have thought that the weekends would be less busy than the weekdays. I do definitely agree about what joz said about doing the rides first though. -
Movie World's White Christmas 2010
themeparkgc replied to themeparkgc's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The crowds just made the news tonight. Hundreds of families who had purchased $40 tickets (dated for last night specifically) had been turned away because the VIP pass holders turned up earlier and packed out the park. I would have thought Movie World would have had this organised better. I can understand VIP pass holders being turned away but I cannot understand why Movie World would allow the park to reach capacity before the paid ticket holders arrived. Movie World should have the figures for the number of tickets sold to each night and subtract this number from the overall capacity of the event. This new figure should be the maximum of VIP pass holders let in on that particular night. Just as a side note, does anyone know what the capacity of these events are? Edit: Just saw that Movie World will be holding an additional event tomorrow night to cater for the crowds. Link -
That would just be for the first round as the top two from each go through to the second round with contenders from other types. From then onwards a random shuffle would be inevitable but good.
