  1. Thanx for the scoop @Theme Park Girl- muchly appreciated covering the minor stuff when news is slower elsewhere.. you're a fantastic asset to the Parkz community! @Rollercoaster_Lover I think what you meant to say "You personally" don't notice the speakers when you are in the pool... correct? Next time before being shot down in flames from others willing to call you out on your comments, maybe consider reading over your post from the perspective of others before you hit submit? Let's get that -54 rep back in black huh ?
  2. Funny that the only people that are chomping at the bit for an announcement are fans on this site who don't already know! For that matter, why would MW go out of their way to make a special announcement about their new ride only to make less than 1% happy? They will make the announcement when they are ready to do so. One thing is for sure, that is getting closer by the day?
  3. It wouldn't surprise me if it were to be WW themed. A decade ago it would have not even been a consideration - most would only associate with the cheesy 1970's TV series. Today we see WB's/DC have completely reinvented the Character that will no doubt deliver a powerful message for Woman's rights and equality. Such a theme for a Hyper is also undoubtedly a great way to get Global marketing attention for MW. Time will tell!!
  4. The opening line is simply part of THAT song. A song that conjours wonderful childhood memories for largely it's target Audience - Adults with Children and their families of which DW has played a big role in happy memories for decades. I really don't have a problem with it at all. DW have gone above and beyond in dealing with the horrors of last year and the fact that as Theme Park Enthusiasts maybe some of us are reading a little too much into this one by criticising a line in a song that was written a decade before DW arrived. Personally I think this is the best TV Commercial for an Australian Theme Park ever produced. It is highly reminiscent of the great old jingle days: 'One Day Holiday', 'Oceans of Fun', 'I've been to Movieworld' etc.. Cudos to DW for bringing back the jingle, allowing music and imagery take Centre stage. I cannot say the same VTP's Ads that have never looked more tackie with all the price tags and deals. Are VTP'S in the business of selling Cars or selling Happiness?
  5. Thanks for the pics @Theme Park GirlI have never seen a couple of shipping containers presented so beautifully!
  6. Why would DW do that when they don't even provide adequate staffing on the load/ unload platforms?
  7. I think there are a few issues DW need to face with reopening the log ride: 1. Restraining passengers preventing them from easily standing up, skylarking or jumping out of the log during the ride. A complete redesign of the logs with lap bars would be an overly costly measure that would also significantly add to the load and therefore affect operation. Seat belts are the logical answer here. 2. Addressing the depth of the moat in certain parts of the ride and specifically the area from the last tunnel to the base of the climb. The water level is so high here that it allows people to rock the log and potentially could lead to incident. 3. All transition areas from channel to conveyer lifts and chute (s) all need looking at individually, sighting and where necessary fixing any potential hazards. 4. The load / unload area is of particular concern. Most of the time there has been no Attendants stationed on the platforms to assist guests. Boarding/ disembarking railings that loop outward for easy handling could also be a good idea along with anything to ensure the logs are stable while in the Station.
  8. Unlike WWF the seating on the log ride is a bench that you straddle. I am not sure that much more than a simple seat belt would work.
  9. Here comes the track!!! Pics?
  10. ^ For that matter, perhaps the new ride is to be JL themed?
  11. Being a huge childhood fan of the Paratrooper/ Supertrooper ride I am loving the look of the Aerobat - looks like a faster and much more exciting experience than Tailspin.
  12. Interesting that DW sells Marvel merch in their stores. Honestly I think that's about as far as they will get with it. Disney are very tight with their brand and wouldn't allow a multi-billion dollar China park use their indices for rides so why would they let DW at it with a minimum budget.. errr ain't gunna happen. Sorry to the others against Who, let's just agree to disagree shall we?
  13. I actually really like this idea @pushbutton ! ! ! Doctor Who is a timeless classic and such an area would truly add a unique entertainment offering that would further broaden the diversity of the Park. -That's something that's very much inline with current management's vision. Sure, this topic is about blue sky and dreaming big however to truly move on from the scars of the past, dreaming big is exactly what Ardent need to do with the DW business right now. I believe the Doctor might be just the right medicine?
  14. I wouldn't stress too much peeps - the elevation of the Train above the track will put you above your precious holy grail of 200 feet ?
  15. Reading about this was certainly one effective way to fall asleep..
  16. I can't say for SW because I honestly don't know however both MW and DW have had many days over the years significantly exceeding 10000 visitors during busy holiday periods. I am only aware of one occasion when MW closed it's doors refusing more guests after hitting over 12000 visitors. That was in their first Xmas of 1991 and the conditions (in particular the staff working at the time) were horrendous!
  17. Hahahahahahahahaha I am old enough to remember back that far? It was definately the Zumer. My brother and I use to swing the chairs back and forth raising you higher and higher. Rarely did we get in trouble for doing that back in the day hehe I would certainly hope the chains and other pieces have been replaced a few times over it's lifetime. When considering ages of such rides, consider the old Waveswinger at Magic Mountain that later went on to Wonderland and still operating on the circuit today
  18. The umbrella ride you are referring to is the 'Supertrooper' - one of my all time fave flats. Alas thus never made it to DW. The ride you are referring to on the map is the Zumer - as known formally - the chair swing ride that today resides with Puss in boots and os one of the very few remaining original attractions.
  19. That was a shallow water feature similar to the one at the entry only had no fountain. It had radio control boats in it for much of it's existence and I recall an ice skating ring set over it for one Holiday Attraction.
  20. Common sense tells me the fact that our TOT only makes it to about the "F" comes down to operational cost. I have no doubt the ride is (or at least once was) capable of launching all the way up the Tower however necessitating a considerably higher power output to each Launch. The Park Operator's could perhaps argue that the overall ride experience isn't that greatly affected whilst saving big $$$ on it's operation, tbh I would tend to agree with this way of thinking. That said, I wonder how much benefit covering the Launch tunnel in solar panels would make? If it was still possible to launch the ride almost to the top I would love to see it happen on busier days. Alas, I think this was done away with completely once ToT2 began operating.
  21. @Cactus_Matt you are correct about Dreamworld- there was in fact a Pirates themed high dive Stunt Show that was a Holiday Attraction and located roughly where Tiger Island sits today. It was a travelling show of sorts and I believe some of the Divers from the show at the time made their fame from the World Expo88 show. That said, it would have been in the 1990s. My guess it would be somewhere around 1992/93 summer. Not sure if there was any affiliation with this show and the one at Wonderland.
  22. I think a Lights out maze is an awesome idea! Turning the lighting on and off as you go through could allow Actors to position themselves right in peoples faces and actually make those who don't normally scare easily practically crap their dacks!
  23. A really impressive and we'll thought read. I am sure it will get a lot of shares! Shame such an articulate article has to come from a fan site supporting the Parks, rather than the Parks themselves.. then again this way it comes across as an independent and unbiased view. Seriously though hats Off Team Parkz and to all you involved with this ?
  24. 4. Surfrider 3. Doomsday 2. Wipeout 1. Claw Surfrider is at least 2 peaks too short - shame because it finishes right when it gets thrilling? Non existant themeing and noticeable wear and tear also lose marks for me. It is however a comfortable and unpredictable experience that could be better with minor improvements. I would rate DD last if it wasn't for the excellant themeing. I am not a fan of it's restraints and find them too bulky for the type of ride it is. A lap style restraint like GL would have given more thrills when hanging upside down imo. It's also MW'S least accommodating restraint for the larger rider. DD could take out top billing in the category if it offered a faster cycle option and better restraints. Wipeout has excellant themeing for a flat with comfortable restraints. It is a better ride experienced loaded with riders and spouts operating on a hot day. I would easily give Wipeout top marks for the category if it didn't suffer so much with the pregnant pauses in transitions. Despite having such a massive overhaul the old gal is showing her age with about half the ride spent practically stationary. The Claw is smooth, fast, thrilling and fun. It's almost as exciting to watch as it is to ride and despite having an odd theme for the area, somehow it seems to fit where it is. For many Park goers it's both the first and last ride of the day at DW and probably a good reason why so many visitors rate DW among their faves. It's a shame that the Claw has the most restrictive seat/restraint system of all our major parks, however top marks for being at the only Park offering a 'test seat' to save some time and unnecessary embarrassment.
