Green Lantern incident at MW
WipeoutDreamworldFan replied to Jakev8's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Very lucky this was not any worse! Well done to the rescue team for getting them out safely. However this does not stop me from wanting to go on Green Lantern or any other ride for that matter. Reminds me of the Wipeout incident back in 2000 I think it was when one of the two gearboxes severely malfunctioned mid ride and riders were stuck mid air tilting upside down for 3 hours and the fire rescue team had to get the riders out using a cherry picker. These events are very rare and I have complete trust in the maintanence of rides here in Australia. -
Tailspin keeps breaking down at DW?

I hope when Wipeout reopens from maintanence that they change the program back to the longer one. Don't get me wrong the one that is currently running is thrilling but imo it is too short. -
The Claw: While the ride was going the motor made a bang noise and the whole thing shook, the ride went faster and it spun faster as well, was pretty scary. Cyclone: lift chain overheated. Buzzsaw: lift chain stopped working. Wipeout: stuck upside down due to gearbox failure -My harness lifted up a little after a bang noise whilst riding. Computer failure caused it to stop really quickly, was pretty scary. pandamonium: harness failure

It's not an emergency stop, just a computer shutdown because the ride couldn't automatically repair itself if that makes sense, something to do with the computer not liking it when it realises one arm is out of place. Also I really wish they would change Wipeout back to the original longer cycle. The current one is thrilling but just too short.

I think the reason why they havent filled the water in the pool all the way up is because of the new extended pathway, as you can see in parkz picture. If they had it all the way up it would flood onto the pathway. That is my thought though, they could probably fill it up a tad more but we'll have to see if they do. Thanks for the video Ninja

Yeah the current program is shorter but still does 2 inversions at the start, bit of flipping then a double backflip on an angle then the usual double backflip but from the front instead from the back. They will be playing around with the cycles as the weeks and months goes on though, they always do. They used program 1 in 1994, they used it on busier days but still provided great thrill.

Exactly. Once a guy jumped the fence well it was back when they had wooden poles and rope and he went into the pool to grab his phone he dropped in last cycle and the ride op had to do an e-stop, that e-stop basically killed wipeout for the rest of the day, motors overheated. Some people just do not listen and that is what they get. But if they knew Wipeout twists turns and goes upside down it would be common sense to not take loose items on with you.

Opps, wrong choice of words haha, I just woke up from a nap when I posted it, thats embarrassing haha. When you think of it it, The Wipeout is nearly a new ride. I must thank Dreamworld for the effort they put in to make the ride how it use to be and to keep it alive and looking great. As I overheard, enjoy it for the next 10 years of extra life it has received ^^ Changed it here but it would not let me edit it again, sorry for that I really do not know what was going through my head then haha

Thanks heaps for the video! That there is program 1 and they used that when it first opened as it was very busy but still did 2 inversions at the start an angle slow double backflip and then the double backflip as usual but from the front. I just noticed that about the water as well, looks green and only half full. Other than that, looks great. Thanks heaps Casey
