Adventure World 2015 - 'Mi2' Kraken Tornado slide
Mark Shaw replied to Tim Dasco's topic in Theme Park Discussion
All Sorry it has been a while since my last contribution but I am sure you can all appreciate it is a hectic time of year for us. Aside from the MI2 project we have all sorts of other mini projects going on from the Bumper Boats refurb to renaming of some of other slides, additional shade structures, upgrades to area music, re-surfacing of some of the worst bitumen roads, new website and e-commerce platforms, a photo kiosk pick up point at Park exit, infrastructure upgrades, little additions to DK, Platinum season pass details finalisation, payment plans, corporate stuff, WA tourism awards submissions, winter maintenance generally, recruitment, I could go on.... Generally speaking MI2 is on track, possibly a few days behind but we should be able to pick that pace up. As commented here by some, our thinking is to have a soft launch which gives us time to iron out any operational wrinkles and then officially launch the slide in Mid November. Our biggest project challenge is going to be reinstatement of grass around the site as you will see, there isn't much left on a fairly large site. Its planned we will turf only the most immediate areas and then plant stolons around the rest which means we should see a good coverage of grass by January. The last containers of theming arrive today and we should start the install process in the next few weeks All up we believe the install itself will take around 4 weeks. Opening date still looking like the first week in October. Looking forward to summer and seeing some of you down here. Mark p.s. tried some delicious Beef ribs on Friday and a new Caesar salad dressing, the final piece in our Caesar salad upgrade. -

Good question. Technically at the time that photo was taken I was not on the building site, just in front of it. It is now part of the site. -

The road surface will be red bitumen, smooth and a little cooler than the black surface. We are also painting a strip of thick green paint I think for people to walk on which should in theory be much cooler. Its certainly top of mind for us. Yes we have ideas for MI3. And thank you for your kind words by the way, very much appreciated by the team here. -

Hi all. Thanks for the great feedback everyone, we are excited too. Iwerks, season pass sale kicked off yesterday. Platinum passes will not be available till Mid August. We are also aiming to introduce a payment plan for family season passes from 1st September. I have attached a rendering (shame this wasn't shown last night as we did supply to Today tonight - they did a great job mind you). Some of the pathway detail has changed since this was done and the viewing platform cut for now to stay in budget. The road to the top is being completely resurfaced as its pretty rough on the feet just now. Most of the theming will be at the top and should have a cool "reveal" at the top of the road as you turn the corner to the right to see it all with the backdrop of the park/Bibra Lake behind it. The link to the piece will be with us shortly and we will post on our Facebook page today. We shall also post some up to date photos now that the space frame for the funnel is up. Mark mi2_render.pdf Apologies for scrubbing out some hints of theming! -

All The new slide Mi2 is indeed a Proslides Tornado 60. at 260m long it is the longest in the world, the steepest drop top to bottom (30m). The slide starts with a small drop to get up to speed quickly then shortly after enters a nice 360 degree section with another steep curve down then out into a long snake like section before the usual drop into the funnel. I'm sorry for those who were hoping for a hybrid. We did investigate this unfortunately the geotechnical reports showed very soft top ground which means we have in places 8m deep piles for the engineering supports. If we had added a bowl the foundations would have needed to be enormous and cost prohibitive. I think it will be a terrific slide though, along with the theming which itself is enormous and impressive. Thanks for your patience with the announcement. Please do not share on social media until after 7pm tonight. Mark Regards -

All We do enjoy the speculation.... We will be making an announcement on the type of slide and specifications around the middle of this week. As promised, I will give you all a heads up here before going public. The name and theme won't be released until late August. To answer someone's question from earlier, we do have a Whitewater modified Rain Fortress............. Mark -

Pop, This is a really nice comment, thank you. The credit really goes to the AW team and board, I'm just the guy who gets to enjoy working with an incredible team, with a beautiful park with lots of potential to keep improving. It really is a labour of love! for all of us. The best pay check for us really is seeing thousands of people coming together and having a great time together, with family, with friends or both. that's the real payback. Bring on the glorious Perth summer 2015/16!! We've just been reviewing some progress photos on the theming on the new slide and I think its as good, possibly better than Abyss so we are really excited for the reveal. We are also excited about a whole raft of other small improvements across the park currently being worked on. More cabanas, more shade, better music cover and themed music/sound zones, and much more. ( lots of people say "much more" when they have just actually said pretty much everything but in this case its meant literally and more details will be revealed over the course of the next 3 months) suffice to say, this is actually the busiest period of the year for the core team trying to get as many improvements made in a relatively small window (considering a lot of our guys take annual leave too right now!). watch out for a brand new website around September along with platinum season passes and 2 day passes. oh, and a sleepover event for season pass holders, courtesy of a shared idea from this forum We will give you a sneak reveal a few hrs before the media story reveal sometime in the next month cos we really do appreciate our enthusiasts! As for "cool", ask my kids or pretty much anyone who knows me and they will quickly put you right on that idea!! lol. teaser campaign first reveal will likely happen in the next 3-4 weeks depending on media availability. Hi I agree with Mr YoshixX regarding the Freefall but for now the ride will remain for next season. The ride comes down every winter for the winter maintenance process. -

Morning Brrrr, in the words of John Snow, "winter is cumin" in fact, it feels like it arrived last weekend! Quick update for you. piling on site is 90% complete. Steel is in Fremantle port. Glass arrives around 23rd June on sight. Theming works commence off shore this week. logo development well underway (yes, it has a name other than MI2!) Marketing creative also well under way. Its a monster! (literally). In other news, more shade, cabanas, upgrades to park aesthetics and music quality will ensue over the coming months. A lot of the feedback picked up here from various visits has been incorporated into our winter upgrade plans so thanks to everyone for your input. I believe Today tonight will run a story on the development of "the monster" as they did with Abyss although this is not confirmed. AW has also just yesterday been awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for the first time which of course the team here are very happy about! Catch up in a few weeks time. Mark -

Hi Adam Thanks for the ideas. In the off season we will have a look at die's. We have already added in our budget an extension of the area sound to go along the fence line adjacent to the Black Widow lawns and at the base of the lift as currently when the car stops the atmosphere is a bit flat. As for the smell idea, I love adding smells however with the breeze we get in the park I doubt anyone would ever smell it. Perhaps inside the building though? watch this space. Mark -

Guys, sometimes we get blinkered into an idea just like anyone else. I hear what everyone is saying and now that I think on it I think the majority view is right. We are so busy right now budgeting and executing MI2 and other things that the weeds just crept up a little too high while we were otherwise occupied. I will see if we can get some trimming done and rethink the Druid worship circles. Thanks for everyone's input. Hi Pazzap The official announcement on the type of attraction and theme/name will be in July. Not long now. As stated here before, I will give you all here a heads up on it 24 hrs. before the official announcement and I will give advanced notice so you know when that will be. Mark -

Hi Alex The entire Abyss area is supposed to be derelict as a stark contrast to the manicured grounds everywhere else in the park. The unkempt look is supposed to add to the creepiness and authenticity. It was felt that mowing and whipper snipping would not be something the druids would have done. It is interesting though to hear your feedback. What do other's think? the vegetation is also at its peak at present and will die down during winter. One option might be for us to get the grounds guys to just go in and pull weeds around the skull worshipping druids though? Mark
