Question re. VIP passes
The basic pass is $10 more expensive this year, but they're the same price if you're renewing.

2 new rides for Dreamworld in 2011
FWIW, those trains ended up going to Bayern Park in Germany. I also feel it's important to bring attention to a (slightly selective) quote from yours truly: http://airtimers.com/bayern-park-die-zuge-des-freischutz-enthullt/0010062/

Annual Pass
Screw it, I'll tell you now that a VIP pass is well worth the money this year. All the new ride(s) plus new show(s) this year makes the VIP pass a good buy. FWIW, the one that includes Halloween and White Xmas is the value buy of the year. Both events are each worth the $40 price for any park lover. To have them both included for the price offered, IMHO is a steal.

Bermuda Triangle is officially closed... Now what?
The rumour mill is saying that SW will have a large amount of cash spent on it this year. What's got me wondering is the time frame, there hasn't been much action in the Bermuda show building, and there doesn't seem like there's much time left for a new attraction there. While I don't think they're likley to use the same ride system again, it's worth pointing out that it took a full year to turn Lassiter's Lost Mine into Bermuda Triangle, so what ever they're doing, they need to do it quickly.

Question re. VIP passes
^ The $70 QLD passes normally come out in Feb or so and are valid for the remaining time till June 30. Getting a full price pass now is better value then waiting for the (maybe) cheaper price later in the year. Incidentally, is anyone from here at MW today? Holy crap it's busy!

Question re. VIP passes
Wow, those maps are horrible. I hope they're purely an online version and we don't see them in the park anytime soon.

Question re. VIP passes
Don't worry too much about it being family friendly. Now they're sticking with white Xmas, they've got a different event which can be family friendly

Green Lantern Coaster
Yeah, I can't say I'm a fan of the spelling bee portion of this thread. Cuts a bit close to home, I originally misspelled the title of this thread Having said that, in a way I'm almost disappointed that I started this topic. Would've been interesting to see how long it took the Outsiders (and everyone else) to report that MW were getting a new coaster if we hadn't drawn attention to it. Would have been more fun to just drop hints from now until boxing day. Instead now everyone is reporting it and passing it off like they've got some inside scoop. I mean MW are getting a new ride, theme to be announced later? Gee, really everyone? Excavation now leads average nerds to expect rides? Naturally! Now if they can only figure out what the theme of the ride is. I'm sure the clue is in the trimming of the trees in front of Batride.

2 new rides for Dreamworld in 2011
I don't know if that's a DW logo. In that still it's inconclusive, and a couple frames later it looks like a set of binoculars. My bet is that that train is for this ride going into Bayern Park in Germany. That ride is themed around guns, so maybe the picture is of a double barrel?

Interested in meeting up?
I've split this one off into it's own topic. First thing I'll say is from the websites point of view, we don't have the membership or money required to get anything from the parks. We don't have the effect on publicity for them to justify giving us anything, and frankly given some of the things that have been said about them over the past few years, I doubt they'd be interested in giving stuff away for free anyway. The idea of having an event with ERT, walk-backs and whatever else, simply put isn't going to happen, unless of course we get more active users, but it would take a lot to make it feasible. Having said that, there's nothing stopping members from meeting other members, and if meeting up with fellow enthusiasts is something that interests you, then post about it in here!

Sydney Gets a Water Park!
IMHO (and I'm aware this opinion may put me in the minority. I'll also apologise to GoGoBoy in advance, because I know he'll disagree with me more than anyone else ) of all the parks on the Gold Coast, Skycoaster fits into WnW best. Yes it's a dry attraction, but like most of WnW, it's unthemed, adrenaline charged, and appeals mostly to young people, and has so far been very, very popular. What dry park would it suit better? I'm sure the members on this site would agree that it wouldn't fit into MW (even it was named "Stunt fall" or anything equally tenuous), since Movieworld for the most part has a well themed thing going on. I don't think with the steady stream of families that SW attracts it would be right for there, and surly we aren't saying that what we all really want is another upcharge at DW. As for it being a 'dry' attraction, well I don't really have a problem with that. I think WnW would do well adding another one or two dry attractions (not upcharges. I think in this one year WnW maxed out on the number of Upcharges the park should have). Well, I say dry attractions, I mean hybrid attractions. For example I'd love to see a Topspin added to the park, and see it run with water fountains over summer, and without during winter. It would obviously be a big draw card during summer, and given most Gold Coast locals would only consider swimming for an hour or two during the middle of the day during winder, a couple of those sort of dry rides might make a day out at WnW a plausible option for people. Again, I'm aware that my opinion expressed above is not shared by all, but I genuinely believe that despite it being a bold move, it would be one WnW Zipline is easily my least favorite of the upcharge attractions this year, but I will defend it a little bit here and point out that Terror Canyon was dead and buried a long time before Zipline came along. If there was no Zipline, Terror Canyon would not have come back instead. That corner of the park would still be sitting dormant. Having said that I really hope that Zipline is just a temporary attraction (a couple years) until they figure out what to do with the back of the mountain. Anyway, I just remembered this topic is for WnW Sydney, so I'll stop typing now

Speculation Discussion
OK everyone relax, Joz is here to clear everything up (sort of). Obviously, I'm not going to confirm or deny anything. It's also worth pointing out that until Movieworld comes out and says what they're doing, EVERYTHING is speculation. Someone could post the concept art and it'd still be speculation. Having said that, this site is calling it a new attraction, I'm calling it a new attraction, others are calling it a new attraction. Until MW announce it, it's all speculation of course, but if I were a betting person, I'd have The Crazy large amounts of money on a attraction, as hinted in the other thread. People can take or leave that if they want, and that's fine to me. I won't be offended if people disbelieve what I say, particularly when I have to say things in cryptic non committal ways. If people do believe me, then I hope they're as excited as I am and eagerly waiting to buy next year's VIP pass to have a ride. I'm not here trying to make myself look awesome, but I am hoping to get people excited for what (Legal disclaimer: I reckon.) is coming this year. That is all. Peace out everyone

Green Lantern Coaster
I hate to ask, is that the flyover that doesn't show behind the park, or the one at the end which has Superman Escape in it?

Channel 7 tonight
Or reword that to say "By the time the next round of redundancies take effect, there will be 200 people employed at the park"

Looney Toons River Ride closed
^ I had the same problem when I was writing the last year. The best solution I had was to have the targets be of the fake 'cardboard cutout' variety to make it clear that while the ride was about rabbit (and duck) hunting, you weren't hunting real animals. Bugs and Daffy's role, instead of being targets, was as Animatronics characters, who with their "Duck Season! Rabbit Season!" dialogue changed the goals of the ride, and added some comedy. It seemed satisfactory to me. I had originally tried to come up with something for Marvin the Martian, but when you watch Looney Tunes, it turns out Marvin the Martian is the bad guy. He's always trying to destroy Earth, and kill people, so a ride from his perspective didn't seem quite right to me. Instead I figured it was better to make it from Elmer's perspective, and redefine what Rabbit Hunting was so that it was fine for everyone to do it, and have the ride pass all the other characters along on the way.

Water park on GC highway in 80's (NOT WnW)?
I think this is the topic, doesn't really shed to much light on the park:

Question re. VIP passes
I think a tiered system would be the way to go. I can picture it now: VIP Pass: No block out dates and 10% discount on f&b and retail, plus one free entry to Halloween and Christmas (pre booking essential) IP Pass: Blocked out over expected busy periods, 10% discount on F&B and retail P Pass: More block out dates than the IP pass, no discounts on in park spending. $99 If they did that I think they'd end up making some money! As for the original question, I think the pass will be back next year, but the $70 version comes out later in the year closer to the expiry date, and I'd expect it to be at least $99 in August. Still, even if it was $150 it'd be an absolute bargain.

2 new rides for Dreamworld in 2011
^ That is not 100% confirmed just yet, and we've been wrong before (albeit not very often). That call is based off the shape and size of the construction already underway, and so far the only signs of construction fit within the dimensions of the compact model. Of course, they could just be starting with that since it'd be the most complex and time consuming bit to build, and might be difficult to access later. For now at least, there's nothing pointing to it being the extended model, but we'll quickly let everyone know if we're wrong.

2 new rides for Dreamworld in 2011
That's sort of the point I'm getting at though. The themeing in that whole area is weak, and really quite abstract. The community noticeboard and other things like that are still there, but I think Claw is well presented with some vague themeing elements, and I don't think you can expect more than that for Shockwave. I also think giving a Disk 'O anything beyond a vague sense of theme with no story or anything else is really the best way to do one in that part of the park. Any story just comes across as hokey, and if anything distracts from the ride. Just present it well, give it a vague theme and it'll fit in fine with the other rides in the area, which are presented well and have a vague theme. The Gold Rush Coaster on the other hand I really hope does get a decent themeing job. That area of the park actually is well themed, and it would be nice to see whatever goes into there keep up with that standard.
