  1. Interesting point, though the opening from Final Destination 3 is hardly the most accurate place to learn about coaster safety.
  2. Answer. Yes. Probably the best place to have a quick browse would be http://capital2.capital.dalthoff/ . Enjoy
  3. Yeah, its sold "As is" and you have to dismantle it yourself if you buy it. Blue Lagoon will probably just be converted into something for some reality TV show.
  4. I think when your going to start selling a park hopper pass, having a water park at DW doesn't make any sense. I can't imagine there will be many families who are cool with the idea of spending up the extra money for a seperate waterpark when theres a smaller one included in the normal admission. Don't get me wrong, I like Blue Lagoon (Krakatoa is both the best and worst slide ever created, pure classic there folks) and will miss it if they do get rid of it, but you'd think it likley that it'll get chopped. BTW, who said it needs to be demolished? The chairlift is still there isn't it?
  5. Hehe, someone put the keep out sign on upside down Thanks heaps for the photos Goliath, was wondering when anything would show up on site.
  6. I thought I made this point, but evidently deleted it, basiclly when food is being served, the pace of the show changes, and slow stuff happens. There isn't dust flying when the food is being served.
  7. Bombora is the name of a slide at WnW, and the burger bar there. I don't think its a good name for the entire park. I agree with Adam on the "Bay" thing instead of the "Rush" thing (Personally think Rush sounds pretty crap as a place name) Whitewater World probably tops my list for a generic water park, which is all we've got to go on, so that gets my vote.
  8. Agreed, pretty much summed up my feelings in the article there. In short, a good show worth seeing, for surprisingly good value. Just wanted to comment on how well done I thought the bar area was, very authentic, and very immersive. Check it out next time your on the coast kiddies, its a really good night out, with dinner, show, and lots of drinks
  9. Fast money has been on an S&S tower for a little bit now, and the location (around SM) is pretty much a given. Wether its inside the ride area or not remains to be seen, but I think you can safely lock in A. Space Shot, without to much concern. Great move as far as I'm concerened, this will be MW's first "flat" ride, which strangly enough is something the park has been lacking for a while. Wether the ride experience matches that of GD is a different story, but no doubt the general public will eat up the whole launch thing. Really, a second new "major" thrill ride in the space of a year should put MW in a good place when it comes to Xmas next year. Its a major change from the old 'add one ride, add another in 4 years later' tactic. Attendance is up since SM, and should continue to rise with the next new ride.
  10. I could be mistaken, but I think you have to be a member to view the photos.
  11. Ah, I got a dodgey one of you guys on SM (can't see everyone, Adam Rich and Clint are the only ones you can see clearly) but will try and upload that eventually.
  12. I gotta give it to MACK. Love the rides they do, and those ride systems have so much potential its not funny (a really well done water coaster would rock pretty hard). We've seen with Scooby Doo the tip of what can be done, so I'd love to see more of their stuff. Of the others, well love the rides but hate the height requirements involved with those rides. Would rate B&M and Intamin pretty evenly, with Arrow then Vekoma.

Was reading up on Screamscape, and came across Europa Park's new Bumper cars, Kick it. What sets this apart from normal bumper cars (besides being huge) is the cars are made to look like giant boots, and the idea is to score goals. The area around it is to be turned into a sports shop and bar. Basicly its taking bumper cars and making a sport out of it. Coolest thing ever or what? On a side note, check out the other new ride there, the MACK kiddie coaster. That style ride with MACK's love for a custom ride looks like a perfect fit for SW if I don't say so myself
  14. In theory I agree, however the reality is quite different. Basiclly, people are stupid, and need to be protected from their own stupidity. I can't tell you the number I've rejected a child from a ride with the parent knowing full well that the kid was under height, but they were just giving it a go. Same goes for people not being able to spot a prominant sign saying the height requirements and taking their stupidity out on staff. The bottom line, is people hold it against the park that they were unable/willing to read the signs. Add to that the lockers on SM, and you see why the front person is important, and thats not even getting into injuries or anything like that.
  15. Great vid tom, a great online advertisment for the ride. Have been meaning to do something like that and now glad I haven't, cause would've looked pretty crap compared to your vid. Again, well done.
  16. Plus you've seen how small a footprint Superman has, making it faster would take up more room, which is there really isn't much of in that little area. The layout of Superman is really quite clever, hopefully just how clever will become more apparent in later years. **Public service announcement: Rant coming** As for the whole staffing thing, well, Superman's station is about as a poor efficiency station as you can have (even Cyclone makes up for its station by doing everything from the same station). It takes 4 people to run the ride (which is a great number as far as doing breaks is concerned, as with 5 people you need someone extra to do a break) with one train, and for most of the time, the unloader and loader on the far side of the platform do nothing. Now one thing I just want to make clear; you really shouldn't get rid of the person out the front of a ride like Superman, since the minimum height requirement is so high, and people have problems with the lockers. A person out the front is a must, so people don't line up (for 5 mins or 45mins), get to the front of the line and become disappointed that they can't ride. One thing about 2 train operation is you need an extra 2 people, one for loading, and one for the front. I'm not convinced that you NEED the extras. One person can operate Cyclone, Corkscrew, and effectively Lethal Weapon, so I think 4 would be pretty able to cover two-train op. Its purely a matter of how much it costs to check each train in the morning and keep up with normal wear and tear, and while more expensive then one would think, it doesn't cost that much. During peak times, go nuts put an extra 4 people around on the ride, sure you could justify it pretty easy, but for non-peak times it doesn’t need that many staff even with 2 trains. If a train needs to go down for maintenance, well that’s fair enough, its the nature of a year round park that you'll have to close off rides from the public so you can check them out and make sure they're all running as they should be. Though consider that Corkscrew and Cyclone's trains each have about a week or two of downtime a year, so unless Intamin have some really dodgy trains you would expect Superman's trains to be available for 11 out of 12 months. Ok, its cheaper to not have to replace parts on the ride constantly rather then having it sitting there, but why spend so much money on a train that your hardly going to use? Maybe in a year or three when the crowds have dropped down and the park isn't so packed drop it to one train, but for a brand spanking new ride like Superman one would think the higher capacity the better.
  17. Ah, $6 to open the locker, which is hard when your wallets inside... I don't think a rotating system is the answer for Superman. The area for it is too way too small to work. Really, with the design of the station, the only functional way "fix" the problem is to make it free locker hire for an hour (with something that stops the locker counting time when the ride is down), then $7 after that. Still, I'm not privy to the logs from Guest Relations, and there not be much of a backlash on the ground.
  18. Ok, then if there are heaps of kebab shops, then why not open a burger shop? The point isn't what type of food (coaster) thats being sold, but that doing something different makes your product stand out, and helps sell more. IMHO, DW would be better off marketing Australia's first standup/flyer etc, rather then Australia's third invert.
  19. *Bangs head against wall*
  20. Woodie, Standup, flying, whatever. The point is why do something thats already been done? If there's a heap of burger joints in town, why not open a Kebab shop instead? You get what I mean.
  21. I really don't get why you'd want Dreamworld to get an inverted coaster to go after Lethal's market? I mean, why have the second (or third depending on if you wanna count Rugrats or not) inverted when you can have the first wooden coaster? Same as Movieworld not adding a looper to go against Cyclone, but rather an airtime based ride.
  22. That'll be your answer right there. Adventure World seems to do stuff like this every year, it seems like a really good way to keep the park relevant. Hope it works again for them.
  23. I've really got no idea on this one. I was there the other week and someone pointed out that the two twister slides were slightly different colours, and asked the same question. I had no idea then, and through lack of any research still don't know.
  24. I've reset the poll, since it was asking two different questions. Personally, I think if its still safe, its not too old.
