Could Sea world be getting ready to demolish the castle?
Fine opinion to have. I disagree, but I will say the ride 100% wasn't made better when they rerouted it for storm - to put it very gently. It's not a world beater, and in its current form is a bit sad. But I think if you were to spend money to bring it back, it would be better bang for buck than demolishing everything and starting again. I don't think SW should be built around it though and it's not a sacred cow, but for now it's there and the whole park is so sad that it should be opened till a cohesive plan exists to use the land properly.

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
It doesn't look 'Bad' by any stretch. It just looks bland and lacks any real imagination. I mean what is there? A metal frame that will presumably have plants on it one day, a single statue, some fences and a sign. It doesn't invoke anything really, it's certainly not themed, at best you could say it's 'styled'. Nothing wrong with styling a ride though, hell most things at SW in its history haven't been themed and it's worked out fine. I think themeing wise the worst thing about it is it's trying to be Atlantis themed. I think remove the statute, plant a heap of trees, build a few wooden huts with thatched roofs and make the presntation be 'Vaugely nice and tropical' rather than 'Vaugely nice and Atlantis' would be much more successful. That's all you can really say about Vortex. It's all neat, and clearly much more effort went into it than went into Sky Flyer, but thats not really saying anything. Will the rest of the area compete it out and make it fit more? Maybe. I still think it's the wrong ride for that plot of land and a top spin really should be closer to the coaster or somewhere else entirely, but it is what it is. A thrill ride should be nowhere near dolphin pools. Given how soon after Wipeout's closure the announcement of Vortex was and how far away it is from the other 2 planned rides, I strongly suspect that it was a pretty late addition to the project, so presumably if there is any kind of vision and imagination being put into Atlantis, you won't see it till stage 2. Fingers crossed but don't go holding your breath. So yeah, this post is all over the place and doesn't really go anywhere but just a few random thoughts

Federal Government and our Parks!
That chart is visitors to the Gold Coast, not visitors to theme parks. For that reason it fails to take locals into account.

Arkham Asylum Maintenance 2020
The problem is there's a huge assumption at the heart of that. You've projected positive intentions onto their actions. My problem is that if I tell you that's not what's happened here, from the outside it looks like I'm making my own negative projection. As far as I know the only park that was actually getting extra work done during the lockdown was Aussie World.

COVID-19 & Theme Park Closures
I think a lot of people are unable to see what is happening due to their bias for one company or another and that's really sad. DW not being able to organise a reopening date and VRTP having rides closed when they reopen isn't the same thing, and I think should be discussed separately. It's also really hard when someone has combined them not to respond as if it's a joint issue when it really isn't. I think having a heap of rides closed is less than ideal and will negatively impact guest experience. I ALSO think Ardent haven't got their shit together with reopening DW (or much else really). There are realities that you can point to with closures at Village (not just cynical ones too). If DW reopens with multiple rides closed I will make the same observations that I made with Village that guests will be dissapointed. I might not blame them or be mad at them, but I'd make the observation that it's a bit shit. Also this thing of removing a ride from the website quietly and then not having it on the maintenance page is shit too. I'm looking at you Log ride and Monorail and dodgems.

So GL, AA, Superman and WWF won't reopen when the park does, as well as no parade and less shows. Good luck guest services staff 🙂

COVID-19 & Theme Park Closures
Like I said at the start, if you want to think they're holding back by design, you're welcome to think that. If part of you giving them a pass involes making up your own narrative for what they might be doing in secret, have at it. If you think extending passes so they are valid for the exact same amount of time a Village one is, but doing so later is somehow better, I won't invade your non reality bubble. I'm afraid you are now too far from reality.

COVID-19 & Theme Park Closures
Here's the thing with Green Lantern, it's like the airbags in your car. It's happened a few times that cars have been packed with faulty airbags. They send their cars to the mechanics, who checks everything over exactly how they're meant to, but later on the airbags deploys, killing the driver, who is at fault, the car owner, the mechanic or the airbags maker? If you've been following the news, you'll know it's the airbag maker, it's their product, their engineering, their maintenance regime. I honestly can't remember what I know from here, OH&S or talking to people involved, but the car in question had jist recently been worked on by S&S, and it was effectively new when the incident occurred. I can't remember if there was a report (I think there was?) But MW were in the clear. They also shut the ride down until the cars were reengineered. TRRR is more like a car that you made that never looked after, never had a proper looked at, made modifications, and drove erratically. You had a bad accident on it but didn't fix the problem and said 'Shit lucky no one was on it at the time lol'. One day it kills 4 people. Who do you blame, the Owner, the manufacturer or whoever made the modifications? Well DW were all 3. Hence anyone wanting to air Village's dirty laundry would be advised not to bring it up as a comparison. Why people are thinking that ripping into Village proves anything is anyone's guess too. Rappa made the point that it's pretty poor form for Ardent to have a dig at Village for safety, and the DW apologists come out in force to defend them and bash Village. You know what I hate about this thread? I don't even like Village, but here I am defending them. There are a lot of things to dislike them for, but they've got safety pretty tightly sewn up. If you don't believe me read the TRR report again. Nothing will ever be perfect and there's always room to improve, but the difference is night and day on this.

Hi all! Just a heads up this isn't a lighting support forum. In the interests of fairness to all involved, we have removed the original comment that inspired the tech support.

COVID-19 & Theme Park Closures
How does it act exactly? They are excited to announce they don't know when they're opening. How is that even a thing? It comes across like it's an announcement in response to the news today rather than being something they are promoting on their own terms. They are on the back foot, not smart. If this is them on the front foot, they're also not smart. HeIl the media reached out to then and the declined to comment. You know why? Because they had nothing to announce. Obviously this story is going to blow up today and they weren't ready have beeb left behind. Yes they'll get clearer air when they do announce it, but yesterday they weren't even able to say 'We're in the final stages of finalising our reopening date for Dreamworld, however we are excited to announce Sky Point will be reopening on..' Also according to the link posted yesterday, weren't the staff told first at Village what was going on? Isn't there communication to staff out there explaining the various situations to them? Also, someone from Ardent has been reading from the Village book of bland Corperate speak, having announced a **World Class** Covid safe plan

COVID-19 & Theme Park Closures
I mean if you think it's smart to have all that pent up demand for entertainment and theme parks to be spent at the competition because you couldn't get your 2 parks open before they opened their 4 then more power to you I guess. If you think it's smart to be left clutching at nothing and having to do a 'We're excited to announce nothing' announcement then that's up to you. If you want to then make up a mitigating factor like them maybe doing maintenance, I'm not going to stop you. But the words of the Iraqi information minister; you are now too far from reality.

Will we ever see a new rapids ride in Australia?
If you're DW, you probably don't want to remind people of that time 4 people died. I think if they did a rapids ride, after a few years it would be established in its own right, and the whole connection would be forgotten. There are lots of rides (even water rides) DW could build though, that doesn't instantly remind the public of what happened, so why bother with a rapids ride? Maybe in 50 years when what happened at the park 50 years ago doesn't matter they could if they wanted to; Same as Luna Park could totally build a ghost train these days, and no one would bat an eyelid.

Hot Wheels Sidewinder Refurbishment
You know what that sums it up nicely, the most impressive themeing element on the ride faces away from the park

Hot Wheels Sidewinder Refurbishment
GL looks good from the Carpark. I'm not arguing against that.
-
Hot Wheels Sidewinder Refurbishment
GL isn't a Carpark coaster, GL is an unimaginative lump of meh shoehorned in. Cyclone is largely the same but the area around it fits it now (Northern half is still a bit what ever but the lower southern half works well). Also can we not do a competition on pedantocness on yhe definitions of Carpark coaster v road coaster v grassy knoll coaster because no one cares.

Hot Wheels Sidewinder Refurbishment
Green Lantern, that was just plonked out the front of the park, and doesn't even have it's own bridge across the creek to it and whose exit path haphazardly uses the main entry bridge is well integrated because there's a coaster next to it which totally dwarfs it? I mean you do you, but I think if you think GL is well implemented you're wrong.

Hot Wheels Sidewinder Refurbishment
I'm not a massive fan of the ride, but I must admit I like really like how the area around it has grown and how it feels like it belongs now. It's neat that the area has filled in, and there's some nice creative elements that make the coaster feel at home in a way it really didn't when it was built. The water slide tower in the middle of the helix being the obvious pinnacle. I agree it should nowt have been the signature coaster for 20 years, but I like how the area has grown to make it fit in. Seriously when it was built you could really tell that the ride wasn't meant for where it was built. 100% a terrain coaster, and as much as it was a good pickup at the time, in the early days it really stuck out in a bad way and didn't fit at all. These days with the way they've built around it it fits in like it's meant to be there. I love when different rides interact, I think it makes things so much cooler. I mean there's nothing exciting about the placement of GL or Arkham, but Corkscrew dove under the monorail track, and it really added something, particularly when you were on it and there was a train going through. The same would be true if they'd stuck with the original plan of putting a ride in Superman's helix. If I had to put it in marketing terms that our parks could understand I'd say 'The proximity of different attractions in any one precinct provides for world class, dynamic interaction, enhancing the experience and providing for organic iconic promotional hero images, and instagramable moments for guests to share, assisting in the creation of sharable viral content. World class. *orgasm noises*'.
