Speculation and media beat ups - Thunder River Rapids incident
How have I never heard of this? It's not what became Prospectors Inn, the bar over looking both the log ride and rapids ride is it?

VRTP Unlimited memberships limited once again!
Thing is, yes the overall amount of park visits are down, as going to a theme park isn't the thing people particularly want to be doing right now. But there are also less parks at the moment. Attendance seems pretty stable at the Village parks so far, perhaps even a slight uptick, but it's hard to tell given we are coming off a bumper school holidays. I'm cynical enough to say that they probably always intended to extend the offer for memberships (which really there is no good reason to stop it ever). If the Dreamworld tragedy did affect them, it did so in this way; theme park advertising would be rather 'on the nose' right now, and it's rather plain to see that Village have pulled their marketing for the moment - so not a good time to be getting the word out about a new ticket offer.

DC Rivals HyperCoaster construction discussion
If I were putting bets on it, I think something reasonably similar, but not identical to Flash at Iewa Adventure would be what it is. Which is amazing news because that ride looks brilliant, and Mack do fantastic rides by all accounts. We're getting a serious piece of roller coaster here people.

Speculation and media beat ups - Thunder River Rapids incident
Can't say I'd be in a hurry to close the log ride down. Not unless OH&S or the insurance company mandate it. Spending the money to demolish it seems like a real waste when Dreamworld will really needs all its family friendly attractions right now. One thing I should just add; this is so early to be having this particular discussion. At this stage, it's not the most important issue at hand, but it's the nature of internet discussions. It happened less than a week ago, remember to stay respectful.

Yeah I'm more of the opinion that you scrap that whole area and start again. Keep Buzzsaw going as is for now, but once you've got a plan for a new area, close it, and re-theme it to a new area. What you put there is what they'd have to be thinking about, but I'd honestly be looking at some sort of whimsical gardens with big open areas for functions, and no thrill rides, maybe the most you could do is a slow train ride around the area. Where would you re-build the rapids? You don't. I reckon it's pretty well over for that type of ride in Australia for a very, very long time.

Thunder River Rapids incident at Dreamworld
Given it was mostly designed in house I don't think that's an argument they should run with.

At least you're honest. Luckily for parks, coaster enthusiasts make up maybe 0.02% of the population if I'm being super generous. The other 99.8% of the population think a Boomerang is just the most amazing ride ever because "ZOMG IT GOES BACKWARDS!" Again, it's not on my Wishlist for the park, just saying if they did it'd probably go much better than a reverse freefall.

Thunder River Rapids incident at Dreamworld
I'm almost tempted to make a seperate topic for this, but I think Dreamworld's response for the most part has been pretty good (aside from not liasing with QPS with regards to a reopening timeline), Ardent on the other hand has been appalling.

Thunder River Rapids incident at Dreamworld
****MODERATOR NOTE**** Many posts have been removed from this thread. Mostly they are about topics not directly relating to the accident (re-opening the ride, reactions to erroneous media reports, trolling and the like). This thread is for the discussion about the CONFIRMED information only, and reactions to that information. If it hasn't been released by Dreamworld, QPS, QAS, or an official body making representations on behalf of those organizations, it doesn't belong in this thread. Unconfirmed media reports are not to be placed in this thread. If the conversation about the confirmed information becomes speculative, it will be moved. (IE speculation about why the raft flipped) If you wish to discuss those topics, please do so in the following thread: Posts from the moment the incident was first reported until QPS making a statement a few hours later have been left in this thread, as they are all genuine first reactions, and when there was so little information around, all many people could do was speculate. I'm aware that some posts which don't fit into either category still remain, this is due to trying to leave behind a thread which makes sense, particularly as people found the official information at different times. It's not going to be perfect, so don't get too upset if there are some borderline posts in the wrong thread. However if there are any obvious posts that shouldn't still be here, or any other comments you have, please message me. I may take some time in responding, but I will endeavor to do what I can. Please be respectful of others and with expressing your opinions, many of the people personally affected by this tragedy will not doubt read this thread. Thank you for your understanding - Joz

Speculation and media beat ups - Thunder River Rapids incident
****MODERATOR NOTE**** This thread contains all the media beat-up and speculation. While every effort was made to split off the thread in a clean way that makes sense, it wasn't possible with some posts containing comments on several topics. Here is the criteria for posts that were moved here: * Posts which contained speculation about the cause of the accident * Posts which contained misinformation, either from the media or from our own members * Posts which responded to the above 2 conditions. As much as this thread is a dumping ground for a lot of the rot, there are a few really good posts in this thread responding to poor information, as well as people reacting to the various pieces of news. If you find your post in here, it doesn't mean that it has been deemed a 'bad' post, but it is in the same conversation, and has been moved here to make the conversation as flowing as possible. * Some troll comments are included for context Posts from before an official announcement was made by QPS have been left in their original thread. If you wish to discuss issues that have not been confirmed by either QPS or some other regulatory body, or other issues that arise from, but are not directly related to the incident, this is the place. Please be respectful of others and with expressing your opinions, many of the people personally affected by this tragedy will not doubt read this thread. Thank you for your understanding - Joz

Speculation and media beat ups - Thunder River Rapids incident
There has been a lot more moderating going on, 2 members have been suspended and we've deleted a butt ton of posts. But as you can imagine it is hard to keep up with all the replies, I would say if you see something that you find upsetting or that you take offence to, ignore it. If you do decide to respond (because I know you will anyway) at least don't call someone a shit head and make a valid point in the same post. Just makes removing the crap so much harder. Finally, don't try and solve the mystery before the police do. They've got the facts, you've got idle speculation, so perhaps give it a rest. I'll be back later to purge a lot of this thread.

Water Park for Perth
Tittybong, Victoria. That is all.

WhiteWater World logo change
I think it's so bizarre to not have separated park entry tickets. It means Dreamworld one day tickets are now $15 more than a one day ticket to Sea World or Movie World. It makes sense to me to have multiple day tickets be good for both, but not one day tickets, not at the expense of one day/one park tickets. Even stranger, to get a 2 day pass to either Sea World or Movie World & Wet "n" Wild is $5 cheaper than a one day pass to WWW and Dreamworld. Having said all that though, in making this post, I noticed that one day tickets to Wet "n" Wild were now in line with the other 2 parks, where as historically they've been around $20 cheaper. This push to get everyone to buy a season pass is getting way out of hand. EDIT: Just one thing I wanted to add. I'm pretty harsh on the VRTP marketing for having such confusing ticketing. I've just gone on to the website to check what the prices were and all that, and I'm kinda loving the way it works with its "Which parks would you like to visit" and "How long for" thing. It's surprisingly straight forward. It's clean, and really easy to use. Awesome! I'd love to see if they could add a couple of expandable options for accommodation (SWR and PC Farmstay) and extra activities (AOS, Whale Watch/Cruise/Helicopters) and I think they'd have a ticketing page that would rival Disney's.

WhiteWater World logo change
Hmmm, how interesting... The option of buying only a White Water World ticket has disappeared from the website. Can they still be purchased from the front gate for just White Water World? I'd love to know what the thinking behind it is, but it seems like a very strange move for my taste. As for the logo change, yeah I like it. The whole dog theme seemed like a pretty confused marketing campaign, not sad that they've gone with something a bit more generic

Goliath - Adventure World’s new Intamin Gyro Swing
I think Adventure World would have to be nuts to build a reverse free fall coaster. For how much it'd cost you could do something so much better that would fit the park. I'd argue that a Boomerang would be a significantly better choice for the park, cheaper and would probably get a better return. Not on my wish list you understand, but just saying.

Planet Coaster
Hope so. You'd have to say even if they don't, they've built an amazing product just with the creative tools. Also if they say they're going to do it, I have no reason to doubt them, since so far everything they've said they're going to do they've done.

Planet Coaster
Not going to lie, I've already bought it, delighted they're adding in transport rides. Looking forward to what else they put into it, everything looks pretty sweet so far. The only thing that from playing it so far the gameplay is a bit lacking compared to the original RCT, but not holding it against it since it's only an alpha so far.

New permanent scare maze for Aussie World
I don't know about this one to be honest. The entire park runs on like 6 staff, so to add an attraction that takes that many again just seems like such a strange move. It also doesn't really seem like it fits the vibe of the place particularly well. As always will reserve final judgement till I see it in action, but must admit far from sold on the idea at this point.

The Off Topic Topic
I really like Dreamworld's chair swing, it's a million years old but it always felt faster to me than the proper versions of those rides. Unsurprisingly though I haven't been on it for a loooooong time lol Also SBF Visa. So much no to everything they make.
