  1. Could it be that Speedy's is really popular, despite it's woeful capacity and reliability issues? In that case doesn't it make sense to rather than invest in a popular but flawed attraction, to start again and make a significantly better version?
  2. Surely they could put a talking moose out the front of the park?
  3. The current version is by MXPX, and is on the soundtrack for the movie. The Simple Plan version is a theme for one of the incarnations of the cartoon. As far using it in the Disco Room goes, yeah I guess it's 'rocking' enough for the ride, and it would probably work. I think the biggest issue is licensing. I suspect that Movie World hold the rights to the Scooby Doo Movie, but not the Scooby Doo cartoons, so that would require additional licensing. So they just need to get the rights then? Well no, it's not always that simple. Remember, the cartoons and Movies are totally different 'universes', and WB and Hana Barbara would likely be resistant to mixing different incarnations of the character. I could be wrong and they may hold licenses for the Scooby Doo character as a whole but more often than not these things are treated differently. Also from a purely nerdy point of view, there's the question if adding something from the cartoons would dilute the theme of the ride since it's based around the movie not the cartoon.
  4. Put me in the camp that says get rid of Speedy's. Replace it with some nice landscaping and some benches. Speedy's would be a poor attraction for one of those highway tourist traps, and it's an embarrassment for a proper theme park. My one hope for mini Movieworld Drive school is that the Looney Tunes are featured heavily, after all it is their part of the park.
  5. At least the Dreamworld Foubdation totally isn't a tax dodge. 'No no, don't 'pay' us, instead we'll do it for free and you can 'donate' to the foundation that we fund' Hearing you loud and clear Dreamworld.
  6. WWW wish list for me would be a Mammoth, dark Mammoth or Boomerango. In other words, something with big capacity that's different to anything else they have in the park.
  7. "Get the laminator, we've got a new ride to promote!" So looks like it's another spin and spew flat ride to replace Reef Diver. You know, I'm sure whatever it is it'll be cool, but I just don't care. I mean another flat ride? I can see the conversation in the boardroom now: 'So this year, we still aren't going to replace the Chairlift, Captain Sturt, Blue Lagoon or Eureka with anything, but my god we can't have less flat ride, all our budget this year on replacing a flat ride!' The irony is that if they levelled the land that reef diver sat on and just turned the area into a pleasant outdoor plaza, it really wouldn't be bad for the park, and they could invest some effort into bringing some life to one of the many neglected parts of the park. Hell, you could put a flat ride inside the Eureka facade, theme it to some crazy piece of mine equipment, and give it some special effects, and in the process end up with a new flat ride which the park loves so much, a revitalised Goldrush and a ride that could be something truly special. But no, apparently that's not the priority. The priority is to keep as much of the same sort of thing in one corner of the park as we can. Yeah, I don't care. Wake me up if the 2nd refurbishment ends up being something good.
  8. I'll knock out all the obvious things here: Wipeout would be one, and the other one would be maybe GD or (ideally) MDMC? Good to hear they're putting in a new slide, obviously well over due and a good announcement if true. Hope the new thrill ride isn't just another fairly small flat ride.
  9. I don't think Cyclone is perfect by any means, but getting rid of Cyclone wouldn't help anything; it'd be difficult to use the land it's on for anything of any substance and as it is it's a pretty marketable ride which serves it's purpose well. I still think it could do with a second train and a refresh, but that's just the super nerd in me talking. Realistically there are more pressing issues in the park that that need addressing first.
  10. Coasters do capture the public agitation true, but I remember a lot of excitement from us about Justice League too. Plus when it comes to Storm, when you look at it, it's a major family ride, built in what was the decaying heart of the park. Of course it's going to be more appealing to talk about than a laser skirmish that's replacing another laser skirmish. TBH, I'm surprised people went as nuts for that thing as they did.
  11. My gut says is if they do Canivale, people will just assume it's family friendly anyway. I mean come on, did you see how many young kids there were at fright nights?
  12. Village Roadshow own it, and all those animals are used at the Australian Outback Spectacular.
  13. Basically.
  14. See I disagree. I think where movie world fails is family rides. The only true family ride in the park is Justice Leauge, and even that has a height requirement (which to be fair I'm pretty sure is set where the manufacturer set it). Anyway, here's 2cents: As far as the rumoured plans go: Look I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the driving school ride in the toons building goes in, I'd like to see them take it as a chance to redo the whole land. As a starting point, rip out Speedy's, and maybe Tweetys cages, and Sam train too, and just start again with everything in that area. Maybe even move Pounce 'n Bounce to where Marvin's Rocket ride was, so they can just start again with a (relatively) clean slate. Make the whole land nice and spread out, give it a more cohesive theme (eg the hometown of the Looney Tunes live) and just cram it full of little details. Think what Disney in Orlando is doing in its queues, with interactive and more or less unbreakble elements, but rather than being attached to a queue, have these elements spread out over the land. At Sea World I'm less convinced than most about Wild being a good fit for the park. Personally, I'd like to see the land that was 'Dinosaur Island' and extending all the way to the east of the park (including the reclaimed land) given a thought out masterplan, which would over time turn the area into an oldschool Seaside boardwalk park. Obviously it'd take many years to build up, but the idea is you'd build the boardwalk from one side of the park to the other (getting wider the further East you went) but in the design designating space for a few kiddie flats, a resturant/pub, some of those horrible skill games, as well as a coaster and/or dark ride to take over the reclaimed land. Open with whatever options listed the park feels is sustainable first, and add the rest to the area over time. Once the land is 'finished', all the land from Dockside to the flume ride would basically be spare since Dockside, Customs house and the kids rides could happily be retired at this point, creating a mammoth plot of land for another big attraction. At Wet 'n' Wild, anything! Also I know I've said this before and no one agrees with me, but I'd love to see a shoot the chutes ride with the elements of a water play structure built around it, so you'd randomly be getting splashed on the flat 'dull' part of the ride as well as the final splashdown. Everyone's already wearing swimmers so I think people probably wouldn't mind, plus you could also run it in 'winter mode' and turn off the play structure and adjust the splashdown to not get people as wet when it's cooler. I'm willing to accept that something shiney and new for a fraction price out of the Proslide cateloge would be far more economical, but I think my idea is awesome, so on this occasion to hell with the economics. Plus my idea requires no one to climb any stairs, and could potentially have a fairly epic capacity if designed right, and we all now how much that is needed over summer! At Dreamworld, look I don't really care what they get so long as they put some bloody thought and effort into it.
  15. If I were a betting man I'd say Sea World is the exception because of the resort, and possibly because the expenses of looking after the animals are present wether the park is making money or not, so may as well be open. 5pm closing is a little disappointing though. Love Aussie World's approach. I really hope that all the love that the owners are giving that park pay off. Oddly enough it's actually kind of scary to think it nearly got turned into a soulless Village Roadshow Water Park.
  16. So how do you use pay wave after locker hire when your card is in the locker? Having it charge automatically in the locker is borderline evil, and if it's the honesty system then no one will pay. Also a lot of people have problems with fingerprints (putting the finger on correctly, putting the correct finger on the scanner, having bugger all finger print). There are a couple of ok ideas here, but so far most ideas are complexity for the sale of complexity.
  17. What about for people who don't have a smart phone or internet access?
  18. Here's a novel idea: How about instead of making everyone's visit more complicated and frustrating than it needs to be with Apps and cynical money grabs, we just make the lockers free? Universal do it, and their results don't seen to be hurting.
  19. Maybe they're painting it that colour so it won't fade? Nah, I love the Wipeout, it's probably my favorite flat ride at Dreamworld, very happy to see it getting some love. I hope they can keep sourcing parts for it for a very long time.
  20. You never know though. Village Roadshow do have a working relationship with Merlin, it's a Warner Brother's/Roadshow film and there isn't a Legoland in Australia and it's a well rated movie. I think they'd be mad not to find a way to bring it to the park.
  21. I'm the greatest!
  22. Swimming off the coast pre cull and swan punching.
