  1. I do quite like those 50 banners. I'm not sold on Gold Wally, also think any sign beyond 'Sea World *Year*' is messy as hell. Must we have hashtags in real life? But otherwise all the 50th stuff seems like a thing.
  2. TBH it's probably good publicity for Six Flags. The hit to the bottom line would be basically nothing but now a butt load of people know about it, and even with the knowledge you can game it, still hardly anyone will
  3. You could ask that about pretty much every support on the ride
  4. Brave of them to put those screenshots on their website
  5. Who wants LPS to look like Disney?
  6. So you're hoping for the default station from No Limits 2 then?
  7. I have been taking a bit of a 'Wait and see' approach with that path. Starting to get the feeling that's it as intended. Hopefully at some stage they'll replace the rocks with grass, put some small shrubbery along the wall, with some big gum trees on the Train track side. Perhaps it's just a case of 'good enough for now'. I mean theres never been a new ride that dididn't look a bit sparse, fingers crossed the grounds team can get their teeth into the area over time. The current set up does look like an OH&S issue with the narrow path and uneven ground around it.
  8. I can't help but think they are going to have an amazing summer. The pent up demand must be huge AND the new offerings has that 'perfect storm' vibe about it. Looking forward to visiting in February.
  9. I get all my information from Screamscape. He reckons Wonder Woman.
  10. Yeah I'm taking a 'wait and see' approach too with themeing. I'm a bit more pumped for it than I've been in the past though. I suspect when I actually ride it I still won't know what the layout is which will hopefully make for a better first few rides.
  11. Don't see how this fixes the people lined up at the gates issue.
  12. My brain seriously hurts dude. Read the post from daptofunland guy and im hungry about redesigning the Carpark for traffic flow issues. Then see I'm quoting slick who is responding to them. If you don't get it from here I'm not sure what else I can do to help you understand. Sure they should have overflow parking. No one is arguing with you on that point.
  13. Do you understand that there are different wavelengths going on here?
  14. Yeah, people are talking about wholesale redesigning the car park for ease of entry. I'm saying that's a waste of time. At no point did anyone say that they shouldn't have an overflow parking area because it's not needed. Some mention of how they normally deal with the parking issue came up, but that doesn't read to me like anyone is saying 'There's plenty of parking for everyone!' I get what you're saying and I broadly agree, but read the other comments that I'm/Slick is responding too
  15. I'm more talking about a wholesale redesign of the car park than adding overflow car parks. Obviously yes if the Carpark is filling up and there's actually no where to go then that's a problem.
  16. That's pretty much it really. Just put some parking attendants on when you get nighttime events on and MAYBE for peak summer trade. I think even if you do a whole redesign you'll probably still need parking attendants for those big events anyway so what's the benefit?
  17. Oh for sure! I loved the feel of Rocky Hollow and TRR. I think a different feel is more than justified here though
  18. Very quickly/basically themed station which to me equals barn with lots of pipes, cogs etc, and a more stylised angular train with that plate steel look. I think dark ride is over rated, but the barn carrying on over the turnaround to where the train stops for the launch would be plenty. If it's a budget thing do that instead of some of the rock work which IMHO doesn't add a huge amount. Lose the queue structure, makes the place look like a snake exhibit at Southbank rather than anything. Doesn't work at Atlantis (Maybe will be better when covered in plants?) don't think it works here. Shade is still needed, I think a nice open rustic queue would fit the bill. Rustic not Rusty though, try and not make it look like TRR or Log Ride. Actually would be nice if you could do the queue on the other side for better views of the ride and openness, but that would require a change to the storage track, and I'll give them a pass that the design of the ride was 'as is' and the aesthetic design came secondary to that, and I suspect it's tight for space on that unload side. At the very least, if the queue is stuck where it is make the launch viewing a feature of the queue. When I think of a ride called Steel Taipan, that's more what I think. Anyway, someone say it's shit now so I can say reasons I don't think it's shit. Feel like I'm stuck on one side of this.
  19. I'm glad to hear it tapers away at the top to give views. That's nice. ST is a sprawling area, so having the queue mostly be a switch back to me is a shame. Yes shade is good, yes fans are good. So is being in an open non crampt space. I'm aware I sound like I'm being SUPER critical but honestly it's fine, I don't get the praise, but there's nothing wrong with it, it's a queue. As for the urban thing v themed thing, look I think presented V themed is right, I think that's bang on; pick an aesthetic and just do that throughout. Genuinely, I think it's decent enough. What I think they missed though, is the name 'Steel Taipan' is basically designed so you can do some cool Outback Steampunk aesthetic (Think Copperhead Strike, or Steel Vengence, with an Australian / Outback twist). They got the arid landscape thing bang on, but they missed the bit that takes it from serviceable to incredible, that I suspect a company that specialises in themed entertainment design wouldn't have missed.
  20. Reading the comments about how comfortable the queue is and how there are great views of the coaster, I have to ask, is there a different queue to the one @themagician took a nice photo of that everyone is talking about? I nearly made a post the other day, (and I'm annoyed I didn't now) that the ride has come together quite well, and that it does have it's own style, and is presented nicely enough. That was basically the benchmark I set for it, and they have hit that. I think Gazza's post about it being designed by an urban design mob rather than themed design company sum up my thoughts reasonably well, I don't love the design choices, but there's enough of it that it works together. By default, I think it's presented better than Rivals say. Thing is, Rivals appears to have by far the better queue, but that's literally all it has. Again, don't love the choices they made for Rivals, but it works together and it's a thing. Anything not the queue, station and ride itself suck badly. With ST, it fits what I've been saying for years, don't try and tell some convoluted story, just present it well and give it a style. I think they've done that. Thought that would be a fairly uncontroversial opinion until reading posts on how a few switchbacks under an abstract shelter with fans that has a wall blocking views of ride on one side and the brake run on the other side is apparently the second coming. Yes you'll see the ride more from the queue given the layout, but if that's the metric, Green Lantern has the best queue on the Gold Coast.
  21. Yeah I don't get the hate. Maybe I've just been lucky, and the way I set the harness on them just happens to be the correct way, but I rated the 3 I've been on so far. Can't say I love it as much as Rappa, but Riddler's was proper top tier for me.
  22. No where did I say stuff should be themed, but just be presented well. That's all I expect of Gold Coast parks too. But if you want to play the 'small amusement parks can't be well presented' card, then I would just say that Aussie World -a small amusement park with well presented rides- exists and kind of ruins your point. Just because it's not a theme park, doesn't mean you can't put effort into the rides. I also get budgets, I get realities of economics. I also understand that the headline '9 new rides' will be effective for them, and I'm sure it'll be a success. But even if you're looking forward to visiting (which you should be), you have to admit, it looks like crap and has zero charm.
  23. I think it's fair to say that if any park on the Gold Coast presented their rides like that, we'd be tearing them a new arsehole. For a park that trades on its charm and history as much as it's rides, the new additions are pretty woeful in their presentation. Don't get me wrong, I think it'll be a great success, and I'm really happy to see them adding stuff, but that just all looks appalling.
  24. It's weird where people draw the line. Superman reopened today, currently Road Runner and West are the only rides listed closed.
  25. I think a 50th event would have been great. BUT... With the timeline for new Atlantis slipping, you're now in a situation at SW that as well as Viking's, you now have Monorail and Leviathan as SBNO rides. I don't think now is a great time to hold such an event where the park to casual guests looks worse than it ever has (despite an upwards trajectory). I don't think that's why Village didn't do a 50th event, but I also don't think it's a great idea to do a big marketing push before the park is ready for it. Also quick aside: the ski pyramid used to depart from the ski dock, you could totally do one with the lake in its current configuration.
