DW [and most every other tourism driven biz] is a total wipe-out for 2020, 2021 and much of 2022. It will take a good two years for things to head back toward normal, assuming Covid vaccines/treatments get to market over the next say 3-6 months. Looking mid to long term at DW, it needs to get back a Longhurst type vision of quality themed attractions, quality over carnival type quantity. It's a decade long journey and it will be tough. Start with a serious rebuild of Rocky Hollow with new Log Ride, something for a wide age bracket. Go for 2 coasters and a 3rd dark ride, but again quality is key. Post 2025 look to building a hotel on the property - I think a couple of developers sniff-around with that idea from time-to-time, so finding an experienced developer partner and hotel/resort operator would be doable - DW may wish to do it on their own and develop the skill-set in-house. The hotel would bring an entire new dynamic to both DW and the Coomera area. GC Council/State Govt [with a Fed contribution] could look at extending the "G" light-rail up to Coomera in the second half of this decade. Tourism movement potential and help serving the booming area behind the GC. Food for thought, just ideas, some may come to fruition and some not. But let's all be honest, DW is as boring as a house brick these days.

How about Oz's own once promising theme park sector, commit to over the next decade plus, lifting the quality of our own parks! -
Thunder River Rapids Incident Coronial Inquest Findings
RobMac replied to Jamberoo Fan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Been painful to watch DW decline over the last 20yrs...corporate bankers generally don't make good theme park operators. -
Thunderbolt II Thunderbolt Returns Thunderbolt Revenge Thunderbolt's Revenge [didn't they keep a few pieces of steel from the old Thunderbolt? a nice piece of themeing] or...just "Thunderbolt" Bridging a state of the art attraction...to the glory of DW...the days that made it great! That's what I'd be aiming for...a thoughtful name, not some shallow hyper-blahhhh name!

No comparison to be honest. MW takes itself seriously as a quality product...both DW and SW are frankly, a bit lost these days. SW got lazy and DW shot themselves in both feet and then said, WOW that hurt like hell, I'll do it again..... ð

Rocky Hollow Log Ride officially closed
RobMac replied to Zanstabar's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I just hope DW deliver a log flume of Splash Mountain standards and gets on with it....ie, in 3yrs time the site isn't sitting there empty. Rocky Hollow Log Ride....to float down the wilds rapids again??? Fingers Crossed.... -
Sea World Storm Coaster theming removal
RobMac replied to Dano46610's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Aren't we talking about "Storm"? I'm just saying, in relation to "Storm" they didn't appear to really get a lot of bang, for a lot of bucks! Storm??? -

New Attraction for Dreamworld Suggestions
RobMac replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
> Return Main Street to quality Standard - including fountain > Return Steam Train, Paddle Wheeler and Vintage Cars - very necessary, as they compliment the theming, one of the other! > Begin planning for major new log ride "Rocky Hollow" Mark II - probably to begin work around middle of 2020's > Not anti another coaster....BUT, must be careful not to get trapped in the "coaster cycle".....quality over quantity..... New stuff is great and very necessary...but quality theming must be the focus going forward. I fly blind here, as have not visited DW in some years...because of simply the lack of quality. DW should return to quality enduring attractions...not simply new stuff for the sake of new stuff and avoid the dreaded and incredibly expensive "coaster cycle". -
Stood outside SW about a year ago...a few weeks before they announced the coming new attractions and to be honest, the entrance was looking very sad.....GC Parks need serious global partners for $$$ and skill sets they just don't have....exception being Movieworld, overall it still scrubs-up pretty well and hasn't butchered itself.....yet! SW, I think [hope] can and probably will find its way back...as for DW......touch-n-go......let's hope so, a much improved reopen Log Ride would be a start....we'll soon know.

Dreamworld December Update 2019
RobMac replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Hoping if/when the Log Ride returns it's 1) got rid of the crazy "Flintstones" look, in all the time they had it closed, over the last few years and if they're really committed to a high quality product offering - go get some new log boats, with a purpose built COMFORTABLE lap restrain or similar and 2) Get some Quality THEMING happening...bring back the caves etc..... ðĪŦ -
An old LA Trolley Car style ride around the park - a nice balance to the Thrill Rides the park has, rightly so, heavily invested in.

DW...you got the Log Ride back to being a serious Log Ride yet? Well themed, no stupid looking boats with some crazy cage type rubbish.....everywhere else on the planet can do it! -
I don't get where all this craziness came from, post TRR tragedy that Log Rides were dangerous! Log Rides have been ridden by people all over the world, for generations, with few serious accidents. Many [most?] serious accidents stem from stupid people doing what they do 100% naturally...being stupid! > Keep your arms and legs inside the boat > Do NOT stand-up No Phd required......so...Enhance the DW Log Ride, put some serious theming in it. Vikings Revenge was a SW legend....turbo charge them both....I'd imagine SW's might need a complete rebuild, not been there in a few years. Aussie parks not giving me too many reasons to visit these days.... ð I just don't see the quality in the presentation...it was there once....but struggling now!
-
The Qld Govt Inspection process is frankly looking as silly now as the Facade of the former Imax/Main Street Theatre building....again DW what ARE you thinking? The attraction itself is likely a good idea, but that building [re]design...... ðĪŪ Safety matters, but frankly I don't see how this type of attraction, already in operation overseas, can raise so many questions. The TRR accident was terrible, DW's dirty laundry has been well-aired, but surely DW and Qld Govt have worked through numerous park expansion approvals over decades?

Bring back the VR Flume!

SW's looking very tired, stood outside a few days ago and frankly....it's overdue for even a lick of paint [needs a lot more]. The place is more boring now than it was 20yrs ago! Clearly the Village people ð have been focusing the dollars and exec time on MW over the last decade or so.....SW needs some love and investment, like a couple of hundred million bucks worth.......the proposed GC Central Park idea would be an awesome regional development for it......but some years away.....

A themepark flows...colours, atmosphere, attractions all work as "one". DW was certainly a themepark up to say the mid-90's, then she had some sort of nervous breakdown and allowed itself to be vadalised by people who wanted to treat the park as a one-night stand and not give her any true long-term love! ð
