What does everybody think of the Vekoma Tilt?
B&Mfan replied to inTIMidated's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Oblivion at Alton Towers in the UK is kind of similar in the sense that the ride builds nervous anticipation while waiting for the drop. Haven't ridden a tilt before so I can't say for sure but I believe that Oblivion might be a better ride. What both have in common is that they are too short. -
The size of Thunderbolt's footprint was the best thing going for it IMO. Means that Dreamworld has the space to put something good or some really good things (in the case of a new "land") that are not too far off the beaten path.
-
Spiderman at IOA is without peer when it comes to flat/dark rides IMO. I would like to hear from anyone who has ridden it and disagrees with my opinion as to their reason(s) why it is not the best.
-
Will be very interested to hear your thoughts on IOA when you do that park. Contains some of my favourite rides (Spiderman and Dueling Dragons).
-
Dueling Dragons is still my favourite ride. I would LOVE to see something like that down here. Might cost a bit much to be realistic for WS though.
-
A "Scream"/"Medusa" clone would work well for WS (forget cost for a sec). They are good rides, and for the Aussie general public that doesn't know any better it will be "mind blowing" I think I am hoping a little too hard now.....you know when you buy a lotto ticket and you're convinced that you will win this time Who knows what we'll end up with. Something sure beats the heck out of nothing.

Thanks for the information Joz Couldn't for the life of me remember what the name of that ride was. I really enjoy having a beer on the upper deck of the Dockside looking out at the dolphin ponds.

Coasters: Lethal Weapon Scooby ToT Cyclone (Close between this and Corkscrew) Flats: Space Probe Wipeout Bounty's Revenge Water: Wild West Falls Poseidon's Adventure (at SW with the volcano; I think that's what it's called) Shows: Police Academy Golden Seal The now defunct Maverick show (bring it back!) Kiddie's Land: Nick Central (I like the inverted Reptar) Theatre: Pirates Animal Exhibits: Tiger Island (my absolute fav....anyone done the photos?) Polar Bear Shores Restaurants: Gotham Cafe The one that overlooks all the dolphin ponds at SW

Fabrication of coaster components designed by most major manufacturers usually takes place in the country of installation.
-
I think Scooby is a bit smoother than Eureka but this may only be because the restraints are a lot tighter. I found that I wasn't thrown around as much on Scooby, especially through some of the more lateral elements. <edited for spelling>

I honestly don't know why you bother Thunder. Seems your best intentions only end up enraging the vocal minority. Don't normally get involved in flame wars as it's not my style, but for those paying out on the guy just remember he is under no obligation to provide any information to any of you. It sounds like he is having a hard enough time in RL without copping it here. Flaming just drives people away from the boards who may actually have something worthwhile to contribute. For those that state opinions and like to dress them up as facts: you should consider clarifying whether your intent is to state fact or present YOUR opinion on the given topic. IMO I have seen too many posts here where the writer is implying that what they are saying is fact when it is really only their opinion. They then use the defence "well it's only my opinion" when questioned over the content of their post. Anyway, I must be getting cranky withdrawals as I haven't had any air time for a few months /rant off.

Thanks for the reality check Thunder/Richard.

What really struck me about the aerial shot of Dreamworld is the size of Thunderbolt's footprint. You could fit Dueling Dragons in that space! C'mon DW, go talk to the friendly folks at IOA.....

lol, Sydney getting the Olympics back in 10-20 years. As much as I'm sure everyone would like this to happen it won't.

LOL @ Joz and Rabid Demon......<chuckles>

Thunder and Richard: I appreciate the information that has been provided so far and can understand why you can't say anything more. I can also understand how news like this sends us enthusiasts into a frenzy. I have to say this has made my wife extremely excited, our last Gold Coast trip she was pregnant and couldn't ride anything. Suffice to say that we are both holding our collective breath for an announcement..... We can all have fun here on the boards speculating on what it could be in the interim. whatever it is bring it on! -

Even if Richard could challenge us with a riddle or weensie hint on the manufacturer that would make me happy for the time being........ My (realistic) hope: A B&M floorless would please crowds, is a known entity at reasonable cost and it would give Wonderland something they can use for promotions (ie the Southern Hemisphere's ONLY coaster with no floor!) -
Wow, I'm suprised they would be that lax on safety there. Is it a Cedar Fair park??
-
Look forward with great interest to Thunder's next post........

How does De ja' Veu compare to a standard bommerang?
B&Mfan replied to inTIMidated's topic in Theme Park Discussion
mmmmm Floorless..... Boycotta: I can completely understand why you're a big fan of Demon. It is a good ride when you have nothing to reference against it. I thought the same up until a few years ago when I went to my first overseas park (Alton Towers in the UK) and rode Nemesis for the first time. My initial thought on exiting was "OMFG we are missing out back home BIG time!" Since then I have been lucky enough to ride some of the biggest, fastest and most fun coasters throughout Europe and in particular the States. IMHO there is not one coaster in Australia (I don't consider ToT a coaster btw ) that is international standard (maybe Scooby Doo, a very well polished wild mouse). I would be interested to hear whether some of the other Total Thrillers believe we have an international standard coaster here, and if yes, why they in their IMHO believe so. /Discussion on... -

Hi there Boycotta, I would be interested to hear why you think a standard Vekoma Boomerang offers a better ride experience over it's over-sized, vertical, inverted sibling.......... -

B&Mfan replied to inTIMidated's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I remember waiting quite a while to get through security at the gate and not seeing a single guard once in the park proper.... Pysclone was pretty rough and fairly slow through the second half of the course although there were a couple of pretty good head chops as you worked your way through the structure. The first drop wasn't too bad but the turnaround coming from up from it really jerked your head around. Have to agree with DJRappa (again ) about Ghostrider. That thing is the best wooden coaster I've ever ridden. Flashback was actually running when I was there but gave it a miss due to time. If only I had two days there...... -

Agree totally with DJRappa. Absolutely no comparison to the standard boomerang. Small tip: when arriving at SFMM go and do this FIRST. The ride isn't geared for high capacity (the load times can be frustratingly long) and the relatively short queue moves extremely slow. Worth the wait however -
Are they doing anything with the new matrix movie?
B&Mfan replied to Shaun's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I can't see how Movie World is competing with Universal Studios, they are simply worlds apart...... Movie World is competing with the other parks on the Gold Coast and as such would be focusing on whatever gives them an edge over the other locals.
