I completely agree with Gazza's previous post. What is the point of a theme park discussion site if we can't add a few spoilers, rumours and inside info now and then? How boring just waiting for the 'official announcement'. The parks managements sure have us wrapped around their little fingers

I visited Wet 'n' Wild in April and I was going to put a TR together but thought I might put my thoughts into this post and relate it to Dreamworld's upcoming waterpark. I have to say Wet 'n' Wild with all its recent improvements is just plain fun. There is now such a large offering of slides and attractions, you can easily fill a whole day (and I'm not one of those people who love re-riding the same thing all day). It took us aaages to get through all of the slides even though the queues were really short... basically because there is just so much to do now. What a change this is from a few years ago when there wasn't nearly enough. This got me concerned about DWWP. Is Dreamworld Waterpark really going to have enough to compete with the 'new' WnW? They only have around $50 mill to spend and we already know part of this money is going on a wave pool and a flow rider (boring). I just can't imagine that the rest of that money is going to buy them enough fun slides and attractions to create any serious competition for WnW. The one advantage DWWP will have over WnW is the fact that it's brand new. One of the down sides to WnW is how some of the areas have deteriorated. The main pathways for example look terrible. And most of the attractions are not particularly colourful. I was very disappointed with the layout of the new Extreme H20 Zone and the non existant theming and landscaping. The temporary tent/shade thing was not a good look either. It really looked like the whole area had been so rushed and just plonked in the far corner, probably all true. However we all know that the Aussie general public doesn't seem to care overly about this stuff and the fact is the new slides at H20 extreme zone are excellent regardless. So, so much fun. Couldn't fault them - especially loved the Black Hole. So anyway the one area DWWP may be able to excel is with bright colourful slides and heaps of theming similar to a lot of the new waterparks overseas. I'm still so surprised that we haven't heard anymore rumours re the parks attractions. I think all you DW fans out there need to do a bit more work and dig up some more info for us... and hopefully my fears about DWWP will be proved wrong

New Water Attraction For Dreamworld...
GoGoBoy replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
A master blaster would definitely be a wise addition and if we don't receive one I will be somewhat disappointed. I am slightly concerned with a few things so far - 1. The only 2 confirmed attractions are a wave pool and flow rider (please DW enough of the waves... we want slides etc.) 2. The size of the park 3. The crappy names DW has suggested -
New Water Attraction For Dreamworld...
GoGoBoy replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Ok fair enough. I'm just desperately waiting to hear news of the types of attractions we will be getting in the waterpark. At the moment all we know is a wave pool and a flow rider and have NO idea about the types of slides etc. -
New Water Attraction For Dreamworld...
GoGoBoy replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
What a stupid addition for Dreamworld. A park desperately in need of higher capacity adds a ride that can take one person at a time -
I think they are all fairly poor names. They say the park is going to be themed but these names are very generic. I don't know if this is the best way to go about it. Certainly sounds like the park is going to be all about 'waves' with a wave pool and the flow rider unfortunately. I'd much prefer a slide park personally

That slide looks excellent and would no doubt be the perfect style of attraction to challenge WnW. I really love all the colours in the bottom illustration. Here's hoping DW Waterpark goes down this path and presents their attractions this well

Blue Lagoon is so terribly small and out of date it is well and truly time to bulldoze it. It does not fit in with Dreamworld's current image. Goodbye Blue Lagoon

All New Site & All New Home for Roller-Coaster.com.au
GoGoBoy replied to Richard's topic in Site & Announcements
The new layout and design looks great. Waaay better than it was previously. Congrats Richard! I'm sure we have plenty of updates to look forward to - Wet n Wild Black Hole & Tornado, DW waterpark construction, Outback Spectacular (probably the least exciting of the 3 but nonetheless it's relevant) -
New Water Attraction For Dreamworld...
GoGoBoy replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'd imagine it'll be some sort of temporary attraction... DW has a tendency to bring in temporary stuff when they don't want to spend the big bucks on a new ride -
I guess it's the best thing they can do really considering the park wants to spend zero capital on anything to do with the amusement park. So the best way to spend virtually no money and still draw in people is to create a temporary 'festival' or 'carnival' that changes every holidays

That's so so true Adam. I couldn't agree more, as much as it saddens me to say it. Aussies seem to love parks where there's just a whole scattering of rides that will throw them around. Forget the theming, forget the atmosphere and in fact even the quality of the ride doesn't matter too much as long as it spins around a bit. Hence DW's unbeatable popularity. Maybe I should move to America where theming and atmosphere seem to be a little more appreciated. I think Richard is right - add a few flats to MW and you'll definitely have a park to rival DW. The one complaint everyone has about Movie World is that "there's just not enough to do"
-
Looking at those pics I noticed just how much more effort Luna Park Melbourne has put into the fun parks appearance compared to Luna Park Sydney. I notice every ride at LPM has some kind of theming and backdrop - even the op booths are heavily themed. Can't say the same thing for LPS
-
I wish they'd update their map on the website. Same for Movie World
-
I hope they don't waste money on a surfing machine. It would be very expensive and would take cash away from potential slides and other attractions. Those machines only suit a small market (ie. people who can surf) whereas slides etc. can be used by everyone
-
Yeah it seemed like they undertook a pretty major upgrade of the whole speed slide/twister tower complex a few years ago. It certainly needed it - it was a remnant from Cade's Water County and was looking very old and tired. No 'world class' waterpark has slides which look like that anymore (same as the one which used to be at Wonderland's 'Beach'). I'm just wondering when it came to refurbishing the slides did they replace them completely? Or did they just recoat/repaint them? If they actually replaced them they might as well have built a whole new slide. I think they ended up doing a fair bit to the tower aswell. Would be interested to know exactly what was involved. I always wonder how much money they end up saving by modifying/refurbing an existing structure as opposed to building a new one from scratch

Loops are overrated. Nice big airtime hills are much better and create less motion sickness in my experience

Now that annoys me (and must annoy Movie World) that no matter what happens Australians have this 'thing' for Dreamworld and always see it has having the better rides. I will be going up to the Gold Coast in April and even though I haven't been on the Claw yet I have made the decision to only go to Movie World and Wet n Wild. With Shrek and Superman now added I strongly believe Movie World has a much higher standard of attractions. As the original post was implying, a huge new coaster is something that would definitely draw me back to Dreamworld. Assuming that Blue Lagoon is going to be demolished, I'd love to see something go in this area. A massive (American standard) woodie would be very fitting. But I certainly wouldn't complain about a B&M as was suggested. I do think it's great that DW is building a hopefully decent water park and I will definitely visit when the park opens... a whole new park is very exciting afterall. I'd love to see a new coaster immdediately after but you can see why DW is in no rush when the majority of the general public aren't going to be easily convinced that Movie World now has the better rides

Would love to go but my holidays aren't till the start of April unfortunately

Not sure if this has been posted already but I just found this funny page advertising Bounty's Revenge on the Sunway website - http://www.sunway.com.my/lagoon/attract/pirateRevg.asp The illustration is very bizarre with a guys toupee falling off and a line with "there goes my toupee!". Very strange. I love the way they promote it as 'all new'. I DONT THINK SO. Try 2 decades old. Cheap b******s!
-
I'd like to see (and as much as it hurts me to say it) a themed river ride similar to the new one at (cough) Sunway Lagoon. Just forget the fact that it's Sunway for a minute and have a look at this - http://www.sunway.com.my/lagoon/attract/voodoo.asp The 2 artists impression drawings look really good. I like the misty cave with faces and statues on the walls that shoot water etc. Dreamworld says it is going to be a 'themed' water park and I certainly hope they stick by this
-
They are already old. They are 2nd hand so that would probably make them quite a few years old already. I'd never heard of 2nd hand waterslides until now. I always thought slides were relatively cheap to build anyway, so these should have been super cheap for WnW. I definitely agree with Adam. If H20 Zone really was planned so long ago, what is the excuse for such poor execution? I'm talking about concept, opening date(s), theming, landscaping etc. etc. Don't get me wrong either, I am looking forward to riding them (not so much Mach 5 as that is very stock standard but the Black Hole) I just think WnW could have done a bit better overall
-
No I won't just be happy when parks add new things. Yes I certainly think a new attraction is better than nothing. There's no doubt about that. But I refuse to say "it's great" about every new attraction even if I don't think it's nearly as good as it could be. I will give credit where credits due and I will give criticism when I think it's deserved (my personal opinion). I will not join in with the mindless "whatever they build is excellent no matter what" brigade. If a park is going to spend millions of dollars on a new attraction and use up valuable land I want it to be worthwhile and right for the park. What's the point of these forums if we can't discuss the pros and cons?
-
The pic of the slides Gazza posted looks way better than the Mach 5 complex, it's a shame WnW isn't getting something that looks like that. Very interesting to hear that these new slides are in fact 2nd hand... it certainly explains a lot. I think they would have been better off theming each slide individually rather than calling the whole place H20 Extreme Zone. They are 3 completely different rides all being brought together and most of them aren't very 'extreme'
-
I thought there was already a post about this somewhere but couldn't find it. They showed the new Mach V attraction on Sunrise this morning. Once again it was great coverage by Sunrise who are really starting to deliver some excellent footage and stories on our latest attractions. Anyway, the slide complex itself is pretty average, as I suspected. I mean it looks like a bit of fun and will soak up a bit of capacity but it's nothing special, know what I mean? Even a friend I was sitting with thought the colours they used for the slides were ugly and boring. I am surprised they haven't given this attraction some great colours and theming considering it's meant to be an 'extreme' zone. It certainly helps to confirm the theory that WnW is only doing this as a last minute thing to compete with Dreamworld Waterpark. I'm sure DW will pull out something with a lot more thought put into it than WnW's latest area
