  1. That would be it then...The Nambour bypass opened in the early 90s, so it was no longer 'on the way' for people heading north.
  2. SFMM look to be having a big year next year. Superman will be going the way of TOT2, being renamed "Superman: Escape from Krypton" http://www.screamscape.com/html/sfmm_2011_6.htm No big launch tunnel like ours, but it will be getting a Superman themed paint job, and 4 seats in the back row unlike the 2 on TOT2. As is already known, they're getting a second hand rollerskater from SF New Orleans. But the most interesting addition is a Zacspin Coaster themed to Green Lantern...2 4D coasters in one park! http://www.screamscape.com/html/sfmm_2011_2.htm http://www.screamscape.com/html/sfmm_2011_3.htm Promo vid here: http://www.screamscape.com/html/six_flags_magic_mountain.htm
  3. Wouldn't labour hours be better spent on working on other effects that actually have a 100% chance of being used? Plus weather forecasts are unpredictable. I mean yeah thunder and lightning to go along with the rainy night was something I had in my own mind too when I was there, but it's one of those hindsight things (Like the way you think of a good insult right after an argument)...Now, its not a bad idea or anything, and it would've been cool to make the most of the opportunity, but in reality not practical for the time frame. Perhaps just trust DjRappa on this one since he knows the practicalities of setting up lighting
  4. I'm suprised on the version of the ad above that they only showed the start and end of the slide, and didn't show a shot of a silhouette of a person going around the loop.
  5. Just another little tip, when you run sketchup open google earth at the same time and center your view over WBMW. Then in the top bar of Sketchup, click the icon that is a google earth logo with a down arrow. This will capture the view from google earth and dump it into sketchup, to scale, as a giant "mat" you can then build on top of. This would make positioning buildings easier as you can just use the "mat" as a guide.
  6. What I love is that it's actually 'real' theming with a bit of depth to it, not just painted plywood.
  7. ^Couldn't give us a link to make it easier Jordan? http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?p...mp;id=661101866 http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?p...mp;id=661101866
  8. Thorpe park are in on it too: http://content.maniahub.com/photo/Thorpe/S...uals/poster.jpg
  9. But I mean, when I went on opening day literally 10 or so staff got shown how to operate the ride with me as the 'test subject', and as a matter of fact that is still going to happen for any ride you try out in its opening weeks. But I didn't feel uncomfortable because what is going to happen? Either the trap door is going to open, or it's not. Either outcome is 'safe'. Anyway, I agree with DjRappa, if everyone gets weighed every time then its not discrimination, and ultimately it's necessary for safe operation. They actually weighed me on every cycle, even if I was just going for a re-ride and they'd seen me 2 minutes earlier. Doing it that way just makes sense because it avoids any margin for error. It would be easier to just do everyone ever time because then you avoid situations where the attendant has to remember who has been weighed and who hasn't, arguments, inconsistency when staff rotate positions etc etc. They're lifeguards, not "guess your weight" carnival game people. Operational requirements. Shirts would increase the likelihood of not making the loop. I mean if the slide hurt you than fine, but the other issues aren't really issues at all.
  10. ^Agreed. For everyone else out there that is perhaps less sensitive, this really is an awesome water slide.

^Come on mate, be realistic. This is all pretty much bare bones stuff people have been able to cobble together, nobody would've made plans with scenery especially. Just design from photos/observations of the ride itself etc.
  12. ^Nah, or else I would've posted the good ones in the first place.
  13. I wish we didn't have to give reminders like this, but please read the upload guidelines before submitting photos for the galleries: http://www.parkz.com.au/photos/submit.html Just this evening we've had someone try to submit a bunch of photos copied and pasted from the GC Bulletin website: http://tools.goldcoast.com.au/photo-galler...35&offset=2 Obviously, we can only accept photos taken by you. Also, we're after quality photos at least 1000 pixels wide. Blurry photos taken on a phone camera just don't cut it for inclusion in the galleries. Nor do tiny postage stamp sized pics that we often see people attempt to submit.
  14. Whoops, I was slightly wrong. Go to Window>Preferences. In the box that comes up pick 'Template'. From there you have a variety of options for the default units you want to work with. Architectural Design - Millimeters is the one I work with since that's the industry standard. Since the units are millimeters, all the dimensions you key in will be millimeters. Lets say I was drawing a doorway, and it was 0.9m wide and 2.2m high, then you'd click the origin point, bring the mouse out in the direction you want the rectangle to be oriented, then key in 900, 2000 then hit enter. There is no need to scale up and down, because you draw everything at life size.
  15. There shouldn't be a need for one, just key in measurements at 1:1.
  16. I'm just speculating (Sorry Scott!) but I think perhaps an 85kg person would have the greatest chance of making it since it sits in the middle of the range, with odds decreasing as you become heavier or lighter, with the higher and lower weight cut off points being set where the chances of failing to make it become too high.
  17. Yeah there is now a narrow walkway along side the plunge so it is accessible from within the resort. There is also a new little hut from Castaway Bay that links to the water park, so the option still exists for guests to pay extra.
  18. ^Webslavew, re the top of the page, bear in mind that Klassen isn't actually a moderator on here, but he does take it upon himself to tell people off....
  19. ^The sea mine can actually be hit by bystanders on the adjacent gun station, so you can have a bit of fun with that. The buoy I'm not sure was working as intended, when you hit the target on that one it just made some bubbles come up underneath (like a spa) but it didn't actually any water to be thrown up to wet you more.
  20. Sails? In a pirate themed area? Blasphemy? In all seriousness, they look fine in reality. Especially the one here since it is attached to ship masts http://www.flickr.com/photos/gcjordanm/5003763541/ All legit IMO Also, some of them have had little extra patches sewn on to them, so its all good. The area really does look gorgeous, so many nice details, lush plantings etc. But Battle Boats really will get you saturated, and you need to cover right down to your feet. I thought it could get away with a garbage bag over my torso, but by about halfway through the course my pants and shoes were 100% waterlogged. As I suspected, the big patch of open water is pretty much unnoticeable on the ride and at ground level.
  21. I'd recommend reading the first line of his post ; PS, moderator, not mediator...A mediator is someone who aids in dispute resolution.
  22. ... They'd look like this then: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:REALD.JPG
  23. What about the submarine themed kids shop at SW? or Sweet Treats at MW? Both of them have happened in the past year. I'm sure they'll find another use for the store soon enough.
  24. ^I guess that's the fundamental difference between a park that is being master planned versus one that has sort of grown organically over the decades.
