  1. A few points: -"what the public wanted"...What? Were people sending letters and emails to DW telling them they wanted the ride closed? -"make way for newer computerised attractions like the claw"...But the mine ride and the Claw operated concurrently for a period. And its not 'making way' at all because the ride wasn't in the way of anything. If they had decided to close the ride and then immediatley replace it with something on the same site then I'm sure nobody would've cared. -"when it is no longer a very popular attraction"...Dunno about anyone else, but it always seemed popular when it was there. I think the lifespan argument isn't the strongest one either...SW has managed to keep it's classic roller coaster going with its recent upgrade. And lets not forget stuff like the Matterhorn boblseds at Disneyland still run well to this day.
  2. Bahaha, It was like that a couple of days after Christmas...We all thought it was just a mistake the work lights had been left on!
  3. I think the one thing to bear in mind is that Wet 'n' Wild is sort of a special case. It is a large, highly attended park with a competitor just down the road, and It's getting to a stage now where there are few new water slide types for them to choose from (And it appears to be fierce competition to snap up the newest technologies, with this supposed exclusivity deal), and even some of the 'new' stuff is not too different (Can someone please tell me a meaningful difference between a Proslide Tantrum, and a Proslide Tops yturvy?) I think a lot of the Worldwide water parks are a different matter entirley, most aren't actually as big as WnW, nor do most have a competitor a short distance away building the same things, so its easy for them to always find something new. But perhaps the main point is whether the GP would warm to a lot of the new stuff they could potentially build, I mean its clear the Aqualoop is something that could do this, but I think some of these other attractions probably wouldn't get the same returns as entirely different 'wet' attraction.
  4. When you look at the chart, particularly the first half you can see moments where +/-1g is sustained for a couple of seconds. It is a bit risky to assume that the actual G's would reach 2 or more because if the device gets bumped then that can easily create an impulse that causes the graph to spike....Notice how at these points it only occurs for a split second, which doesn't reflect the time it would take to negotiate a turn.
  5. ^Well, to be honest its a good start. The fact they have actually come out and said exactly what it does and what its called before the first sod has even been turned is something they have never done before. I'm sure in the meantime they should be able to get some stock footage from the manufacturer and a few more images to put on that page. This thing should be very marketable because of two factors. -It just sounds plain cool. I'd even go as far to say that its something that will be become known about across the country (Not just local news/sunrise) because of how interesting/impossible sounding it is. -It is easy for people to understand....Who here has tried explaining to someone else what happens on say Tornado or Surfrider; Hard to do without using a few sentences and a lot of hand gestures. Here, it's simple, and that brings it back to the first point I made. Also, in terms of opening dates I'm gonna be a prick and say they should open it after all the VIP passes are due to expire so they can maximise the returns from all the people hooked on the place and wanting to ride this crazy looking thing. PS, this can be the running topic, so I've changed the title accordingly.
  6. You can read the individual ballot. I know of at least one person who took the poll, but missed out on Superman because it was closed when he was visiting from the US. I did actually post about this earlier, but for the non ranked coasters you can still look at the win/loss ratio to get a ranking. Huh? We don't have a volare here. I actually sent an email to Mitch to get Jet Rescue on. At the checking stage all ballots are published then too...Spotty was the only other person who took the poll and rode it, but still our two votes weren't enough to give a meaningful placement.
  7. Sorry, I'll go back to being mature now.
  8. I just discovered this facebook group which has photos of the place: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8518705119 (God bless Facebooks' popularity and sheer number of groups these days) The coaster looks odd though, at least it means Thunderbolt wasn't our only Japanese style 'jet coaster'. (Photos below stolen from the page)
  9. I didn't think you worked for WVTP anymore.
  10. Why? You were taking the survey as a guest I presume, so if you can say two, then why not the others?
  11. The elephant is spraying again?!?! I think I speak for everyone when I say that was the best part of the ride back in the day.
  12. I remember that there used to be a dinosaur in the tunnel, but that was replaced with scenes of gold miners, and there is an 'explosion' in the tunnel where water is lightly sprayed onto you. Is this what you are referring to?
  13. If there is any ride in need of a "re-launch", clearly it is Motocoaster In the quietest part of the year don't you mean?
  14. As weird as it may sound, for me my favourite part of it was the queue, just because it was really detailed and effectively pulled off the feeling of being in a space port. my favourite part was the suspended baggage carousel with baskets carrying bits of equipment. I think the only weird fact I know about the ride is that the robot at the boarding gate used to be a goose or something from Splash Mountain. 15. In addition to that, notice that a a lot of the artwork on the website still depicts Corkscrew instead of Sea Viper.
  16. Or the one down the road.
  17. I thought the way it worked was that using the handbrake would slow down the car, which means you can make a tighter turn than otherwise possible.
  18. Why don't we just break out some physics? a = v^2/r r is 2.6m (Taken from measuring the turn on a wild mouse in google earth) v ill just take a stab at...Obviously can't be 45 km/h since it only would reach that on the drops, so lets try 10, 20 and 30 km/h (2.7, 5.5, 8.3 m/s) So for the lateral g's at 10 km/h its 0.28g at 20 km/h its 1.1g at 30 km/h its 2.7g So the car probably isn't going 30km/h at least since that would be dangerous. Hmm, but i could be a bit more accurate couldn't I? POVs on youtube makes it appear a car takes about 2 seconds to traverse the straight bit of track between each turn. These sections are 10m long according to my measurements. so its going at 5m/s (or 18 km/h) So the lateral g's would be around 0.97g...Sound about right since ~1g is the upper limit of comfort.
  19. Internet says yes: http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&...mp;aq=f&oq=
  20. Wikipedia and Google broken ? Hard Rock Park (HRP) is in Myrtle Beach South Carolina and opened in 2008. HRP quickly went bankrupt a few months after opening and was bought at a fraction of the original cost, and is now known as Freestyle Music Park. Basically, it was a music themed park, and had appropriate attractions. Some of them did manage to carry through the music theme well enough (Eg Led Zepplin: The ride, which was a B&M looper with Whole Lotta Love as the onboard soundtrack, and Moody Blues: Nights in White Satin which was a dark ride where you wore 3D glasses and it simulated being on a drug trip. But most of the rides were flats/kiddy rides that played off a music related pun (Or none at all) and little else. Since the buyout, all of the rides have had their names/branding removed.
  21. ^In that case you would do something similar to real life, and build a long narrow pool to slow down in, sort of like what the old speed slide at WnW had: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coas...Stunt_Show.html Anyhow, I reckon its kind of stupid how the game has uphill segments for the body slides since they don't exist in reality.
  22. Well, master blasters don't tend to do several overbanked turns in a row floating midair over a swimming pool, and tall freefall slides don't usually end with a sharp u turn.
  23. Wow, since when did AOS move into a smaller white shed at the back of the studios?
  24. I reckon the water park could be a bit more realistic too...
  25. I'm just going to straight out say Mega Lite coaster....I'ts one of the few rides out there you can build, and know you are getting one of the best ride experiences in the world no matter what.
