  1. Just a little update, But I was reading the RACQ magazine. Not an issue goes by where the theme parks aren't mentioned, but they were advertising this nigh event on August 21st for Free2Go members...In Adrenaline Alley. Of course, these upcharges not matching in with ocean parade has been a bit of an annoyance for people on here, but it seems as if they are treating the southern end as a new area. A bit of googling lead me to this: http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/WWW_p...lleyStoryAngles And... PS, the rest of the 'story angles' on that page are hilarious.
  2. I'm not sure on that one. Operationally, they are probably on par with each other, but at least at Knotts you've got a far better coaster lineup, equivalents of everything at DW, and then some. I mean, it is the worst park in LA, but I'd still rather visit a park with a B&M and an awesome accelerator than DW.
  3. I'd unbolt your letterbox, and refrain from sending or receiving any mail, since Australia Post have a centre on the Wonderland site. I think boycotting the postal system would send a really strong message.
  4. What I think is silly is that whenever you go these places with security bag checks, be it a theme park, sports game, museum, supermarket etc all you ever do is just open the main part of the bag, they take a one second look, and then you are on your way. They never check side pockets, front part, nor the elastic pocket inside the main compartment, nor under other stuff inside like jumpers etc etc....If someone was trying to cheat the system then there is little to stop them.
  5. It was Invertigo at California's Great America: http://www.rcdb.com/m/473.htm Have a look at this pic: http://www.rcdb.com/m/473.htm?p=22597 The ride is an Inverted Boomerang From the station the train gets lifted up the slope backwards, then released, where it rushes down and through the 3 inversions, it then goes up the second slope, where it is lifted to the top of that one and released, rushing backwards through the circut back to the station. The train stopped on one of the lifts. This was the big problem because Inverted Boomerangs don't have evacuation stairs beside the lifts, so it was necessary for them to use cherry pickers to get everyone off. The guests wouldn't have really been lying down. Each car has 4 seats, two forwards and two backwards, so they either would've been reclined back a bit, or sliding forward against the harness (Sucks to be those guys) If you look at this pic of Lethal Weapon http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coas...hal_Weapon.html you can see the set of stairs, which, when used with a movable platform, allows guests to exit if the train if it becomes stuck on the lift.
  6. Yeah mate, they totally have the resources to find thousands of empty Mount Franklin bottles, and fill them up one by one, and then seal the lid to the ring without the use of a machine
  7. I thought this one looked better than Supertubes, basically because they've made the enclosed sections decently steep (Eg those couple on the far right). Supertubes is wrecked because you have those drops (Which are decent), broken up by sections where you crawl through turns.
  8. Look what Holiday World are building, Bloody epic! http://www.holidayworld.com/rides/wildebeest Wildebeest will be the worlds longest uphill slide, at 521m, and a cool 6.5 Mil AUD.
  9. Through your bank you should be able to get a 'visa debit' card or something along those lines. It lets you use credit card facilities (Be it online shopping, phone transactions, at shops etc), but the money you are spending is your own, not credit. Good for people who want the ease of a credit card, but dont want the debt or interest.
  10. Would council members being shareholders in Westfield or whatever make a difference? I thought the rule was that you have abstain from making decisions if a conflict of interest can occur. ....Oh wait, this is Queensland. To be honest, when this does get built, they need it to be as close as possible to the train station as possible, and not on the Dreamworld side. In Brisbane there is a shopping center called Toowong Village, and even though it isn't the best one in Brisbane, it is very useful because it is built on top of the station, so it is very easy to pop into Coles or Kmart, or get something from the food court and then jump on the next train (Bondi Junction for Sydneysiders and Box Hill for Melbournians would be comparable examples ) If you built the majority of stuff near Dreamworld then the opportunity is lost for people to easily use the train to access the center. The idea of linking DW and a shopping center is kind of pointless IMO since they aren't really uses that match, unless you made that end purely restaurants and entertainment.
  11. You missed the point. The queue would only be spilling out onto main street if the park was packed and heaps of people wanted ice cream and the shop was overwhelmed, which is very rare. Furthermore if the park was that busy, then main street would be really congested anyway, so a few people out on the footpath wouldn't make a difference. It wouldn't be any more problematic than say the Shrek 4D queue, people waiting for Stunt Driver, the crowd that forms when character photos are happening etc etc. Wasn't the old ice cream shop arrangement claustrophobic inside? Those people matter too.
  12. Not really....The mouldings above the door match what is elsewhere on the shop, and inside a bulkhead covers the actually roller door when it is up. The final turn. I'd imagine the whole park would have to be positively heaving for that to occur!
  13. Crazy thought I had...Could scrapping the ski show be part of a longer term vision to reclaim or build over the upper reaches of the lake?
  14. ^But wristbands aren't biodegradable, and would cost more each than a stamp. A quick google also told me that in industries that use hand stamps (Theme parks, night clubs etc) tend to use waterproof ink. For the WVTP parks, only WnW doesn't have pass outs (Well, they do have this 15 minute pass out, but you have to go via guest services to do it...don't hold me to this one) At SW and WBMW just grab a stamp on the way out.
  15. Not even that, myfun has a very comprehensive contacts page: http://movieworld.myfun.com.au/Park-Info/Contact.asp
  16. Probably not since retaining ADA compliance by having ramps would be favourable. I think the new stairs are just there to get people to buy ride photos.
  17. Well, it isn't that far of the ground there since it is just the part where the path loops around on itself. I just came across this: http://news.uk.msn.com/odd-news/article.as...entid=149033576 Sounds like a member that used to post here...
  18. Maybe the big conspiracy is that taking away a booth makes people wait longer, so they have to buy coffee. Haha, I'd prefer to be positive though and just say it is to cater to the guests that want a coffee to start the day...On some days they have a mobile attendant out selling drinks from a cart with ice in it, and another one selling souvenirs and sunscreen, why not this? Ps, the people who make this forum software really need to think of a different way to type the emoticon. Im sick of lists being ruined like this: a) c) d)
  19. I couldn't find anything on the bulletin website...Are you sure it wasn't just some letter to the editor saying something along the lines of "What next, WnW removing their barbeques?" I highly doubt they would go removing them, for the reasons you stated. More updates: -Roadrunner now has on ride photos, available from that green screen photo place next to the Charlie and the Chocolate factory shop -The middle ticket booth at MW has been turned into a coffee shop, also selling a few other morning foods like croissants. -The Music Man ice cream parlour has been renovated a bit, with a wide roller door that gets opened up that faces out onto main street.
  20. The monorail track freaks you out enough as it is Though the concept of putting stand up trains on a coaster not designed for them has been done before....Didn't end well. http://www.rcdb.com/m/496.htm http://www.rcdb.com/m/496.htm?p=18218
  21. I remember seeing that on the website. They give a phone number to call, and I have been meaning to ring them for kicks to find out what they are doing, I guess I am sort of interested since I lived in the town for 8 years. I can remember being really excited when they built the water slide, I was about 6 at the time, and whenever we drove past I would make sure I sat on that side of the car, and would kneel on my seat to get a good view of it under construction. ....Ahhh, so thats how I got into all this. I too reckon a small water park would be fun...Adelaide does get really hot in the summer, so a seasonal operation catering to local day trippers would be great IMO.
  22. Splash battles are a lot of fun, but I cant help but think for 9-10 months of the year the ride would be deserted. They really are horrendously wet, much worse than say WWF, and literally like you have stood under a shower for a couple of minutes. To put it in perspective, at Alton at the peak of the busier day I was there the flume and rapids were in the 40-60 minute range, and battle galleons was hovering around the 5-10 minute mark, despite being much lower capacity. People like getting wet, but there is threshold. For that reason, I reckon put it at WnW, at least it would get consistent year round ridership, and better returns.
  23. I guess this is on topic, but SW has lodged a DA for a: Lets hope they fill in some useless spot with this, and don't go and take a chunk out of larger bit of land that can be used for expansion....They do actually need to start slotting stuff in like a jigsaw since they have run out of space now.
  24. Especially now SFMM has Terminator, there really isn't much going for Knotts to be honest, apart from say Xcellerator and Perilious Plunge (Im assuming on the latter, since it was closed for my visit, despite it being the middle of a hot summer) How was Pony Express? You should head over to the international parks fourm, and give us some more fleshed out thoughts on the LA parks. It's always interesting hearing an Australian perspective on these places.
  25. Agreed, Tatsu is one of the best coasters I have ridden, obviously that pretzel loop is nuts, other parts might be less forceful, but that is well and truly made up for by the fact the flying position is just so cool, and soaring so fast and high up is simply awesome. Even Air, considered to be the worst of the lot, was still impressive to me. I've never really understood why forcefulness has to be the main measure of how good a ride is...I've always rated rides by how enjoyable and exciting they are. I do think a flyer would be a good addition to an Aussie park, but at the moment I suppose we could still be building cheaper and simpler stuff that would be just as good (Eg that modern woodie everybody wants, mega lite, the cheaper B&M models like the dive machine etc)
