  1. Does SW have paddle boats now?!
  2. This begs the question, but if Cyclone breaks down during the day, and they need to send through a train a couple of times to test before reopening, does that mean they have to get dummies loaded in to do that? If so it must waste a lot of time.
  3. I've never been to the Hong Kong park (Only the Disney parks in the US), you won't have the big thrill rides, but it doesn't matter since the Disney experience is superb, and would really be suited to the age group of your kids. I'd say go for it, Disney is Disney, plus its a whole new country and experience, so it's worthwhile regardless, plus on the theme park side of thinks you also have Ocean Park which has some interesting looking rides. If you are thinking of branching out to see an overseas park, but don't want to go so far then another option to consider is Universal Studios Singapore, which opens early next year.
  4. Could this accident be any more stereotypical?
  5. Check out this topic here, http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/index.php?s...ic=4152&hl= Quite a few people are into collecting maps ect.
  6. The motors in the back of the train needed replacing.
  7. I agree with Morphix, since when has SW had a crash in the past?
  8. Or any other channel, in every bulletin and update for the rest of tonight for that matter. The chopper is operated by a 3rd party, so DW won't have to pay anything. Anyway, here is a bleh video I managed to get of the report. dreamworldhelicopter.wmv
  9. What was the slide that is where the two body slides are now? Seems like a direct swipe at Krakatoas Revenge.
  10. True, since Aussie World have only had the mouse since 2000 (Prior to that it was at the Perth showgrounds) Who knows, Blackpool are notable for twisting the facts regardless, they still advertise the Big One as being the tallest coaster in Europe when Silver Star eclipsed it a while back. I was going to suggest Flamingoland and Oakwood and as other parks, but Flamingoland is probably getting a bit too far north for the purposes of this topic (It was too far north for me to include in my itinerary!)...And Oakwood isn't in England.
  11. One thing I'm interested to know why Chessington is equal first in the poll with Alton. Both parks have: -Spinning Coaster -Powered Coaster -Flume -Shooting Dark Ride -Dark Boat Ride -Wave Swinger -Aquarium -Top Spin -Pirate Ship -Rockin Tug -Playgrounds -Ball Play Area -Carousel -Overhead Monorail -Plus a bunch of small rides for under fives. Now unique to Chessington you have: -A Zoo -A Wild Mouse Coaster -A suspended Coaster -Ferris Wheel But unique to Alton you have: -Inverted Coaster -Flying Coaster -Dive Machine -Launched Coaster -Mad House -Splash Battle -Skyride -River Rapids -Scenic Gardens To me it just seems like Alton does everything Chessington does, plus a ton more. Yes! I was looking at pics of the Mad Mouse and thought that was really odd. I remember someone posting on here that Eureka used to have different cars that tited, so maybe it used to have a wooden track of that style?
  12. Did you read the article?
  13. For piraten: http://www.rcdb.com/m/ig4038.htm For a layout drawing: http://www.intaminworldwide.com/iag/docu/M...Coaster_Web.pdf (pg 2) And for some aerial shots of Kawasemi (Same layout): http://www.rcdb.com/m/ig3799.htm I recommend checking out this POV though since it shows of how good it really is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bok7OvMbfEQ Haha on your last point, though you'd like to think that some sort of probability comes into it, they couldn't possibly pick more than x amount of bad attractions in a row...right?
  14. I observed the ride yesterday, and the only bit that involves a sound track is the initial launch, the subsequent bounces are just noises originating from the rides pneumatic systems. Does MV stand for Movie Vorld
  15. I was being googly, and I happened to come across a piece of info I have been after for a while...the cost of a Mega Lite. This page quotes Piraten as being over 55 Million DKK, which puts in a sort of $13 - $14 Mil AUD cost range. They should seriously go out and buy one at that price, its not that much more than Motocoaster, and having something that is known to be an excellent experience in its own right will do a lot more for the park in the long term than some of the other short term gimmicks they try.
  16. But not going to Thorpe because of Saw would've been like not going to Dreamworld because it had that Nightmares attraction. They could just skip it (Though from what I have seen, it doesn't seem much worse than any other horror themed ride) The park still does have plenty of 'family' rides though: Flying Fish, X:/ No Way Out, Loggers Leap, Tidal Wave, Rumba Rapids, Depth Charge, Storm in a Teacup, Rocky Express, Rush.....Mr Monkeys Banana Ride Obviously Alton towers should be your first choice, but Thorpe is the best option close to London. It is this one though I guess since it is a good 4 hours away from London it would probably be too hard.
  17. I'm wondering why Blackpool isn't on the list, since it is the biggest park in the UK. By Adventure Land, did you mean Adventure Island (The small park with the pink and yellow Eurofighter) I haven't been to any so you are better of listening to Nev, Djrappa who have been to them all (Though ask me again in a couple of months) I have researched them a bit though. On the surface, Alton Towers seems like the best choice (Class act all around), Thorpe probably second (Good Thrills), Blackpool third (Apparently it is quirky and one of a kind, but it does have plenty of fun looking stuff) Chessington does have a cool spinning coaster, and suspended coaster, but other than that it seems to be pretty generic in terms of its lineup. Legoland is probably a tad below the age bracket of your group, and it would be a 'waste' if that was the only park you visited. Camelot by all accounts is terrible, and Drayon is aparently not that great either (and if you were up that way you might as well just go to Alton!) Adventure island you can apparently do in a couple of hours in an evening, its a 40 minute or so trip from London Fenchurch St Station. Fixed. Anyway, where are you going to be based?
  18. Quick question kieron, but did you like the ski show because it is long running, or did you like it because of its entertainment value?
  19. I think this picture is the pick of the bunch, http://www.flickr.com/photos/luna_park_mel...954813/sizes/o/ For a long time I have been wanting to see what the layout of the big dipper was like, and it looked pretty cool, a crying shame it was demolished. The park back then seems a lot nicer than it is today...Everything slots together so nicely and looks like it was built to be permanent...you can imagine the visuals, as you walked through the mouth you would have seen the river caves mountain as something in the distance....Oh, and that slide looks really cool too, I wonder what is happening with Lindsay Fox's mission to restore the park to how it was...he bought it, but nothing has happened for several years. Out of interest, are these your photos? Thanks for posting.
  20. Yeah, I know how the show works and that they use multiple cars, but if read the post properly, I was suggesting that if you modified the way the final sequence is done, you could do it with only one 'real' car, there would be no need to have a dedicated one parked behind the fabric doors. -You could just have Marty driving all crazy out on the arena, he would then drive into the bottom level of the 'car park'. -After that the video of the car going up the ramp and people dodging would play. -While the video is playing Marty would drive right around the back, and would park behind the fabric doors. -When the video finishes playing, the fake car on a track would do the entire upper level sequence, and the jump. -Then once the building explodes Marty drives out of the fabric doors. Of course, this is all moot because they have already spent the money building concrete ramps etc.
  21. But how is that any different to what could potentially happen anyway? I mean, if the dummy car doesn't work then that's your whole grand finale stuffed All I was saying is that the existing track would have just been extended backwards all the way to left side of the arena, and a single car dummy car would start on the deck, go through the building, and continue over the jump. That way that entire concrete thing with ramps needn't have been built, and in terms of running the show things would have been much simpler. Martys car would have just driven into the bottom entry to the car park, and gone right around the back ready behind the fabric doors while everything else was going on (And the scene going up the ramps would have just been filmed in some other car park) Meanwhile, since the dummy car takes care of the whole final stunt itself, there is no need to worry about syncing the dummy breaking through in relation to the real car going in.
  22. HSD is a ride? One thing that is new is that backwards driving car...has the show become a bit more like the Disney one, where they show off how the stunt was done after the fact? Two of my biggest annoyances...for the finale, what is the point of making a fabric door look like wood, it doesn't fool anybody. The car parked just in view is bad, and wrecks the illusion of the final stunt for the right hand side of the audience who can see it. It wouldn't take much for them to get someone to sit right up the far end of the seating, and someone else in the car slowly reversing, and with a two way radio work out the point at which the car slips out of view. One thing that strikes me is that they would have spent heaps putting in those concrete ramps and the upper deck, but in the show itself the ramps aren't actually seen in real time, and the upper deck is used for about 3 seconds...I wonder if it would have been easier to just have the car on the track run across the upper deck, and not have any real cars go up there.
  23. Bermuda did indeed retain the revolving platform for at least part of its life, since I remember using it at one point. Beyond that I dont know exactly when they changed it so boats stop, perhaps Joz can fill us in? It would revolve at the same speed as the flow of the water, and boats would not stop in the loading area. Since everything was going at the same speed it was like stepping into a stopped boat. The main benefit is increased capacity.
  24. Yeah, to be honest in a place like India there are probably more interesting things to be doing then visiting theme parks...Out of interest, why are you heading over?
