  1. Well, no arguments for a B&M from me I don't know if I'd want a strata coaster though...Not much of a marketing benefit for the park, would be hugely expensive, and a maintenance liability....And at the end of the day there are better coaster types out there. I mean, Top Thrill Dragster cost $32 Mil AUD, but a few years later Maverick cost $27 mil, for a far longer (Time wise) and better ride. In any case, $32 Mil is way out of DWs budget. Some of the newer flat rides would be pretty cool too, but I think the coaster lineup at DW is their weakest point, so they need to do something about that first. Wipeout used to have fountains, but they have been removed, and the pool below the ride drained and painted. I have personally been on a Huss top spin with fountains (Riptide at Knotts Berry Farm), whilst the ride is pretty good, the fountains were kind of annoying (And this was on a blazing hot day)....getting your shoes lowered into the jets and waterlogged, and head blasted isn't that fun...
  2. No, I was talking about what Kieron said. I thought the rolling eyes were expressing exasperation at WVTPs procedures.
  3. I thought it was pretty standard thing to have a torch with you when inspecting a broken down piece of equipment, theme park related or not. What if you need to look at the underside/inside of something and the house lights aren't strong enough or pointing in the wrong direction. I think you guys are reading into it too much.
  4. I'm seeing double here...did you just copy and paste the same reply into two threads?
  5. This is why it is useful to download Google Earth Obviously it wouldn't work to use the off the shelf 20x40m one because there isn't enough space, and if you wanted to build over the water the monorail track is in the way. If you were creative you could do a custom layout maybe?
  6. Which one did you get to ride on? It's worth pointing out that Parque Warner Madrid have both a simulator (Batman Knight Flight) as well as a Madhouse (Hotel Embrujado) As for the original suggestions, I have thought about something like this for MW, it could be worked into a special effects Walk through type thing...essentially like a better version of what they used to have, but with this tacked on the end (Bill it as a demonstration of optical illusions or whatever)
  7. So the coaster doesn't have to have an interesting or unique layout, it just has to be tolerable?
  8. I think it would be nice if they brought back the adventure island concept...have a large kids play area, but build it in such a way that it acts as a "weenie" across the lake for that corner of the park....Kids pirate island or something?
  9. ^There is a bit more to it, it's just woefully unfinished at the moment.
  10. One other thing I forgot about (Though to be fair, it isn't a major coaster) is Pilgrims Plunge at Holiday world, which opened a few days ago. It is currently the worlds tallest water ride, and features an SDSC style lift. The thing that is interesting is that it was built for USD 4.3 Mil, (Which is just AUD 5.7 Mil) IMO this is the sort of thing DW could/should be building...low cost, but it has the thrills and the stats. 11. I guess that's why it is advertised as 'closed until further notice'.....It's the end of an era anyway.
  12. No more "Iiiii Awww" when ending your hire Yes folks, I made that post.
  13. The Battlestar duelers have gone vertical, and as predicted they will use Vekomas newest track and train design. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gregglobalreporter/
  14. No, it was just flat water all the way through.
  15. Here's another pic, taken in 1993 that shows it in a bit of a better state: It really reminds me of Living with the Land , right down to having dry cleaners carousels with plants hanging off them: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/US/Orlando/E...h_The_Land.html
  16. Manta has soft opened, and it looks fantastic...The theming is up there with the 3 B&Ms at the other end of International Drive, I mean, how well did they pull off the water spray effect! In terms of an onride POV video, this is all that has turned up so far: It seems to share the same quality of Tatsu in that it spends a decent amount of time high in the air and above trees, which is what a flying coaster should do. There are some pics of the ride here, including some of the well themed indoor queue that has aquariums, undersea lighting and caves: http://www.pointpics.com/details.php?image_id=9613 http://www.pointpics.com/details.php?image_id=9606 http://www.pointpics.com/details.php?image_id=9539
  17. To be fair though, we can't really pass judgement until we see what this place actually looks like, at the moment all we have is an illustration, which always manage to make parks look nicley slotted together and inviting.
  18. Real professional testimonials on there too:
  19. Good suggestion, I hope GoGoBoi doesn't mind, but I've added a poll that sums up both view points.
  20. Haha yeah, I think Joz had great foresight in his conclusion. There seem to be two types of people, at one end you've got your 'theme park heads', and they want to see the place be more like conventional theme parks (in some ways, a historic, mini version of the GC parks) with 'proper' rides. At the other end you have your 'Carnival Heads' who are really into the travelling rides, and hence want to see their favourites available every day at the park.
  21. ^^Mish Mash? The only 'random' thing at WnW I can think of is Surfrider, the rest of the park is a 'true' water park isn't it? PS, it wasn't me who posted it. Joz is right about the ticket prices, though its still not as overpriced as Hawaii, which charges $40 USD ($55 AUD! ) In the US, I think there is generally a lower expectation of prices compared to what we pay . Here in Australia we have some of the most expensive parks in the world, we pay as much as you pay to get into places like Alton Towers, and we pay more than places such as Europa Park, Thorpe Park, Efteling, Kings Island, Cedar Point etc. Haha Love it. We finally have a park chain we can abbreviate in the same manner as Six Flags...WnWP, WnWH, WnWAW, WnWGC....
  22. Cue the hordes of irate guests angry, at the fact they cant use their tube on Tornado, Mammoth Falls etc.
  23. Yeah, it certainly is a pretty good lineup. Personally, I think that this could point to our WnW's future....Naturally if certain rides are successful in Phoenix then they would most likely wind up here. The dueling master blasters for instance is sufficiently different to WWWs supertubes to be a viable addition. The mammoth falls Zoomerango is not only in Phoenix, but on the cards for WnW Aussie World, and I think it is only a matter of time till WnW gets one too. The other thing I find interesting is that, bar tornado the whole park is essentially Whitewater West. And Boourns, why do they get a raft lift on their tornado?
  24. It shouldn't matter if they are from overseas....Remember 100% of Australia's mechanical rides come from overseas anyway, so if they wanted one they would just ring up the manufacturer and place an order. So if they wanted the first one i linked to they would contact Intamin: http://www.intaminworldwide.com/iag/index....8&Itemid=32 If they wanted the second, contact Gerstlauer: http://www.gerstlauer-rides.de/english/Gerstlauer_E.html If you wanted the third, contact S&S: http://www.s-spower.com/familythrill/elloco/elloco.php Quick question though, It seems as if you are suggesting taking travelling rides and giving them a permanent home at Luna Park. So what happens to the various shows that occur throughout the country? Couldn't you just buy new rides, or second hand ones from quite large second hand ride market? Check out the Gyro Drop...the rotation feature would be really effective since all riders would get to see all the sights of the harbour before the plunge: http://www.ridetrade.com/rti/index.php?opt...7&Itemid=37 Perhaps one difficulty though is that on the surface, both rides look very similar....going around in a circle along a wavy track. Parks add new attractions to attract new visitors, and if you have two rides that look 90% the same, there is not as much incentive to pay a visit if they have done it before. I don't disagree with expanding into this area, what I do disagree with is just continuing the bitumen and chucking down rides willy nilly....Right now there is a real discontinuity between the front and back of the park. At the front, it feels like you are in an Amusment park. At the back, it feels like you are in a car park with rides in it. If they are going to do something to improve the back of the park with new rides (Which they should) then they need to have a cohesive character throughout. However, on the topic of flat rides, I do think the Sky Roller looks like a really interesting idea since each person can control the experience. http://www.gerstlauer-rides.de/english/Gerstlauer_E.html Overall, however, at the moment the parks line up is too unbalanced, quite a lot of flat rides and spin and spews, but not enough 'tracked' rides (Eg Coasters, dark rides, water rides etc) and until this unbalance is adressed it won't become any more popular than it is now.
  25. I guess I'm from the other end of the spectrum. I'm not a fan of concreting the park and whacking down carnival rides....Thats what is 'wrong' with the park right now! It feels tacky, and it's not a particularly engaging place. I'd like to see more effort put into future additions now the class action is over and the park perhaps has less to worry about with noise. I mean, if you combine Maloneys corner with the picnic area, you have a pretty decent sized site...Surely it has more potential than to just be ashplhalted and rides chucked down willy nilly? So I'd be looking at purchasing permanent rides, and continuing the style of the other half of Luna Park, so there is actually some continuity. I'd like to see the place follow a similar strategy as some of those historical European parks that are also very limited for space, but still successfully provide modern thrills whilst remaining sensitive to a historical context. So that said, If you were looking to add a coaster, there are plenty of decent ones out there that are specifically designed for small sites: http://www.rcdb.com/ig4309.htm?picture=8 http://www.rcdb.com/ig3573.htm?picture=1 http://www.rcdb.com/ig2722.htm?picture=11 I think the lack of a vertical thrill ride is a bit of a lost opportunity for a place like Luna Park, a gyro drop for instance would provide nice panoramic views. If this super splash ride was popular, then I think a log flume has potential for the park, I'd look at winding it around and under other things, much like what they have done with Vikings Revenge at Sea World.
