  1. ^Definitley won't be a spinner because they use tubuluar supports.
  2. I think the issue with MW is that houses were there before the park even existed.
  3. I woudn't say it was bad as Lethal Weapon, but I did find it hillarious that the ride managed to whack the back of my head when it hit the final brakes, like as if it jerked forward or something. Don't you reckon that moment between the final light going off and the green light on the launch turning on is the longest second in your life? Totally agree with this, it goes beyond being 'painfully rough' to being 'hillariously rough'. And besides, its not possible to headbang, so the ride is a win for me. Anyway, great TR, summed it all up much more concisely then I could ever hope too....What's next, a trip to Orlando ?
  4. Since when is Frozen Coke outsourced? The parks have always sold it, they just went for a dedicated outlet in addition to it being on offer at other places. How recent is this. I always thought they carried the Nestle wonka range, some of it imported. Following on from what Joz said, there needs to be some VVIP pass that is a decent amount extra, but it might include a 'merchandise pack' or similar. The only people who'll buy it will be the diehard fans of the parks (Which I think could be a few these days, not necessarily traditional enthusiasts) When you get AFL club memberships they often offer some sort of additional package like this. Back when I lived in Vic and was a Geelong member you could pay $50 or something ridiculous extra for a 'Captains Club' membership and you'd get: -A pen. -Birthday card on your birthday. -Access to grand final tickets, should Geelong compete. The first couple of extras were window dressing, but it was clever of them to get people to pay that much extra for something they might not even get to use. I'd be interested in the economics of offering something like ERT on certain days to premium pass holders too. Dreamworld does it, the Merlin parks in the UK offer it for pass holders...could be done here.
  5. No offence, but since when was TPR the be all and end all of wether an attraction is good or not?
  6. To be honest, I really do doubt it will be one like the version in Madrid just looking now....The basic model fits into the area like a glove. If they did the larger version however, it would be either doing crazy stuff like going over the rapids loading area and the ponds of water surrounding the loading area, or it would be taking up the bus parking area in its entirety. And the footprint is twice as long as the base model, so it would in fact be extending over the train shed and onto the lawns of the amphitheatre. PS, if anyone wants to know how to pronounce the manufacturers name: Mau rhymes with 'cow' rer is phonetic Söhne sounds a bit like 'Sonar' (The thing that tracks planes), but it's ner on the end rather than nar.
  7. I guess SW is front right...The gift shop reno.
  8. Except Eurofighters aren't very good coasters (Well, IMO) PS, did anyone else find the fact they used 'cardboard cutout' flame shapes either side of the base of the first drop on Dare Devil Dive laughably bad. Out of interest WWW worker, where did the $9 Mil USD figure come from? Why? If it were at MW it would have better theming and would be run closer to its theoretical hourly capacity (And would be painted more often too).
  9. Except Dreamworld will. Motocoaster is a 'thrill' according to them. 820.
  10. Computer says no.... Skywheel. Abismo. X-Coaster.
  11. Dreamworld has never spent much on any one particular attraction since the original TOT. I more saw these types of rides as being something for smaller parks (And yes, I think Dreamworld sort of sits in that category on the world scale) that want a 'big' ride without breaking the bank...Much like what Boomerangs did for a number of smaller parks in the 80s and 90s. I sort of have a category for this type of ride (ZacSpins and Halfpipe Coasters sit in the same group)...Compact thrill coasters that are an alternative to a flat ride. I'd rather see parks build these then say a gyro swing or a topspin. http://www.maurer-rides.com/files/amusement/pdf/PI_SkyLoopXT150_SkylinePark.pdf 550 pph. Anyway, I'm not too dissapointed or anything. We knew it would only be $6 Mil. At the very least it will be as fun as something like Surfrider, and Surfrider is decent
  12. I'm sort of in the same boat opinion wise, the x-tended model would be nice, but I'm not gonna complain if we get the basic one. Allthough it's unlikey, the possibility of them going for the floorless train is there too: http://www.maurer-rides.com/x-coaster/floorless/
  13. I reckon it could be a about right, as posted earlier the basic model is $4 mil USD, so the price differential could be accounted for by an extended layout, or merely higher construction costs in Australia. I think Disk'o's are fairly cheap, cant see it being much more than a million.
  14. Next bet, anyone else reckon it will be themed to be like a mining poppet head or similar? http://www.google.com.au/search?q=poppet+head&hl=en&safe=off&biw=1920&bih=929&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=jIbfTaPHBILGvQPFhoThBQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CA8Q_AUoAQ
  15. ^Nah..... we're doing it on purpose just to mess with ya.
  16. No. Not really, its a bit longer than comparable rides like the OCC Motocoaster at Darien Lake and Pony Express at Knotts (No other rides of this type exist in the US apart from those) My crackpot number theory is that 1976 has some sort of significance in the Gold Rush era. ....But it's a drop tower +1
  17. Not to make an argument, but which recent rides at DW would you classify as short? Claw isnt, Wipeout isnt, Cyclone isnt, Motocoaster isnt (Since its so slow to negotiate the course ) Giant Drop takes while to do its cycle. The three water rides are of a decent length. You could only really classify TOT2 as being short, but thats one ride. Huh? what do you mean by the "Estimated date of Maurer"? PS, why haven't you posted the photo here instead of making people hunt for it?
  18. Hmm, it could well be an X-Car/Skywheel type coaster...Check out these supports for comparsion: http://www.rcdb.com/2773.htm?p=10688 In terms of what we can expect. X-Coaster at Magic Springs (The basic model, with no full layout, just the two inversions) as $4 Mil USD in 2006... DW could possibly push for a bit more than that with the $6 Mil budget, so at best I reckon we’ll get something of the scale of Abismo at Parque de Attractiones Madrid....The basic layout with a couple of turns and an airtime hill.
  19. Look, it doesn't matter if they are constructing a building, or a coaster or a giant donkey statue, if they plan on painting it onsite, it will arrive reddish brown. It only has to be closed for as long as the bits of construction directly affecting the rapids take place.
  20. Because I wanted to prove that reddish brown is a default colour for steel not yet painted in its final coat.
  21. Sometimes stuff gets it's final coat on site though.
  22. Get any pics taken over the fence? I'm genuinely stumped though, I don't know of any coaster manufacturer (If it is a coaster that is) that uses that style of narrow, cross braced support.
  23. Still waiting for Whitsy's microanalysis of the incident....
  24. Some of these sorts of bits and pieces aren't quite up and running yet, but Richard is working on it! PS, it's spelled kangaroo, not kangeroo. All Australians should know that.
