  1. Just a quick point I'd like to bring up, with the shop trading hours, they open later, however at the end of the day they actually stay open for as long as they need to, instead of closing right on 5pm.
  2. Topic has been split off...Speculation and news on MW's 2009 attraction can be found here. To be honest, it really does go against the whole notion of what the park is about....What is a movie related theme park without special effects in the major attractions?
  3. I guess it must be easier to flick a switch to save some cash than it is to sit down and look at fundamental reasons why the company is only making as much money as it is.
  4. Whoops, I could have been clearer. You need to search for the individual parks (EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom) Searching for "Disneyworld" wont return any results because Disneyworld isn't an individual park, but rather the name given to the collection of parks and the Disney owned resorts surrounding them. If you have the time, visit all of them because they are all excellent. Though if I were to give a preferential order it would go EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios. I'd try to visit at least one of the water parks too, because they are among the best in the world. Bear in mind that there is a SeaWorld in San Diego, and a SeaWorld in Orlando...the Orlando one is better. At Islands of Adventure, the important ones to go on first are The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman, both sides of Duelling Dragons (Each track is unique), and the Incredible Hulk Coaster. The water rides on offer are all pretty cool too. At Universal Studios, Revenge of the Mummy (This version is completely different to the Hollywood one), Men In Black, The Simpsons Ride and Jaws are the key ones to see. A new coaster called Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is nearing completion, but I don't know if it will be ready in time for your trip. They are both pretty full on parks (And really deserve a full day each given it will be summer time) but I guess the express pass will help. If you are going to do both in one day, then I'd start off early in the morning at Islands of Adventure, and do the Studios later on.
  5. Last time I was on SDSC the fog was not running in the main room. The lack of steam (Anywhere, including when you go through the holes in the building) on Superman was a bit of a downer. Hopefully they are just doing maintenance work on the boiler system, and haven't let this effect fall by the wayside.
  6. ^I agree with AlexB on this one. If, in the past they have been willing to scrap attractions that would have cost millions in the first place for new ones, then why would it be an issue to move a warehouse, especially since things like pallet racks and shelves can be moved anyway. Roadways are also an issue that can be worked around...either reroute them out of the way, or simply place the wooden tressels on I beams that span the roadway. Unfortunatley the view is blocked a bit by a tree in this photo: http://www.rcdb.com/ig526.htm?picture=6 But in the bottom left you can see how one of the service roadways for Knotts just goes under the ride.
  7. To continue on, In San Fran you have Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and California's Great America In Vegas, there are a few Casinos that have roller coasters attatched, the only fully fledged park is the indoor Adventuredome but to be honest that park doesn't seem that great. Orlando has heaps of theme parks, and theme parks are the only reason you'd go. You have the four theme parks (EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kindgom) and two water parks (Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach in Walt Disney World You Also have Universal Orlando, with Universal Studios and the spectacular Islands of Adventure, plus Wet 'n' Wild . There is SeaWorld and the associated Aquatica water park. Nearby in Tampa Bay is Busch Gardens. PS, if you are after photos of any of the Orlando parks, search for them here on Parkz. In New York then Six Flags Great Adventure is the nearest large park. What is the situtation with Coney Island at the moment though? In Washington DC you've got Six Flags America, but reportedly that park is awful. There are also a few theme parks in between DC and NY, but I'll leave them to someone else more familiar with them to cover....As you can see the US has quite a lot of theme parks, and you could in theory do a trip solely visiting them. I don't know how much trip time you have (and that will determine everything), but If you just went to the Orlando parks (Islands of Adventure and the Walt Disney World ones taking preference) then you'd be doing pretty well, and any other parks would be a bonus. I'd imagine time in the other cities would be better spent seeing the cities themselves.
  8. $100 Mil to build a park? I doubt you could build anything even equivalent in size to the GC parks. I mean, WWW managed to cost $60 Mil, and that place doesn't have any real 'expensive' attractions....African Safari World was going to be built for $220 Mil. Kinda feel like joining that group to post some stuff, some of the things in there are funny to read.
  9. Keep checking http://www.weather.com.au/qld/gold-coast ....Saturday to Monday looks to be pretty fine, with a tiny bit of rain on Saturday.
  10. The other thing they mentioned (I was wondering when they would do it) is that the park is being re branded as Wet 'n' Wild.
  11. Why were they asking you? PS, this is gonna sound really nerdy, but do you have a photo of what Parkz looks like from the outside.
  12. Does this mean you had to get in the car and move it?
  13. Do rapids even need a mountain anyway though?
  14. Yeah, I'd agree that the River Rapids seem to have an excessively slow moving queue...Definitely one of the rides you want to hit first thing actually. To be honest, I wouldn't complain one bit if they decided to build another set of 4 body slides elsewhere in the park....while a lot of the more recent water slide innovations are great, a lot can be said for classic body slides.
  15. It's not that bad is it? : It seems to have grown in pretty well, and is comparable to the area around Super 8 & Twister, around Mammoth Falls etc. This is one little 'theory' I have thought of, but It seems to me that the only really well themed water parks, or sections of water parks, are places where the attractions are at ground level, or at least very close to it. If you consider the 'best' themed water parks, such as Wild Wadi, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach and Siam Park, they largely follow this arrangement (Though if people can name a well themed water park that relies largely upon start towers, do post) I think that your standard water park arrangement, where slides run from a high tower, up on supports is a bit more difficult to theme. Applying this back to WnW, Terror Canyon, Whitewater Mountain and Calypso Beach are all 'low to the ground' areas, and at the same time are arguably the best looking parts of the park. It will be interesting then to see then how WnW,AW turns out...The park will make use of the natural terrain, and has a clear and achievable theme from the outset...will WVTP be able to easily theme this place well?

Come on guys, can we stop this where any new member is accused of being Doc Brown. If Doc Brown really is posting then we will inevitably see him self destruct in a hilarious manner.

It was more the number of duplicate threads this member would generate, see the following post: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/index.php?s...ost&p=58155

Its not so much a game, but rather a CAD program that lets you make coasters. My advice before building one is to open up the coasters that come with the game, and see how they did things.
  19. Agree 100% with everything in this article. The concept of an Extreme World is one I have contemplated myself, and it just seems like a sitting duck of an opportunity that the people at Coomera should be able to put together with their eyes closed, especially given MLT already knows how to run FECs with the ones they have in the US. The thing that gets me is that all these attractions are self funding, So surely then they would make more without a $69 barrier to entry, and without having to compete with bigger rides in the same park that are 'free' (I know personally I am interested in spending my time at a park doing the things that I have paid money to come in and see in preference to forking out for extras) I think if there was an unlimited wristband as Richo described then it could be a bit easier to get people to spend more...If it is standalone stuff inDW there is probably a limit to how many things people would have a go at, and how much time they could devote....On the other hand if you were turning up to Extreme World, you would have a mindset of spending time only there, and hence may well just go the wristband and make a day of it. I think the issue now is that they are too commited now to "enhanc(ing) Ocean Parade and creat(ing) a zone of participative experiences" given everything is sort of built in to that area, they can't easily move everything across to a third gate.
  20. Haha cadboy, it was WMM I used, I just made sure I steered clear of lame transitions and the trademark white text on blue background titles people use. It was a pain though, because for the timelapse bits the only speed increase option is x2, which can only be applied once per clip, so to get it as fast as seen I had to keep stepping through WMM, making a new final file and speeding it up progressively each time. PS, did anyone notice that on the Green Room, the raft at one point was going uphill, away from the exit of the funnel....weird.
  21. To answer a couple of questions: -No, I haven't done any courses. -The footage started life as video from my digital camera, so its not that great. If you want to utilise the youtube HQ option then the footage needs to be good in the first place. I might as well post a few points about my visit. -It is hillarious the way the slide surfacing has just been attacked by the water in the relatively short time the park has been open...Anywhere that water touches is faded and chalky looking. The only slides still good are the ones in Pipeline Plunge....Whitewater West FTW. -After spending another day there (Last day there was opening year) you sort of realise that WnW really does have significantly more to do. WWW sort of has the same sitation as MW, where you have a selection of good quality stuff, where can do everything pretty early, then its just a case of re riding favourites till you want to leave , whereas at WnW it can take hours to progressively work through everything on offer. -Previously I thought (aside from 90 degrees of extra helix) Tornado and Green Room were the same....but you can see that visibly less water runs into the funnel....Water is drained off through vents in the bottom of the slide just prior to the drop, which means there isn't much of a 'bump' of water (Or none at all if conditions are right) -The slide operators are inconsistent. One of them was really good, and was combining 2+2 on the green room, so the queue went fast and the rafts went higher. Later on, another one was happy to have the queue stretch down 3 flights, sending down 2 at a time. -I know WWW are all for water conservation, but can they a least have their grass a bit longer to make it nicer to walk and sit on? -The BRO has starting lights now, but still no timing system -If you haven't tried it, do the little rippers with 2 people, it works much better that way.
  22. Why would we know? Why not ask them on the "Ask Alvey" forum, or email the actual people who run TPR?
