  1. Corkscrew gets queues? When did this happen? In what way? Seems about the same as ever to me....I don't recall anything being broken, and the fountain was going...Am I missing something?
  2. I think the point is though is that the design response DW came up with probably wasn't good enough for a shopping centre for a hub as important as Coomera will be in the future, you basically only have allowance for one big shopping center there, and if you do a crap job in the first place then its not like another company can come in and build a better one right next door. Robina IMO is one example of where they have stuffed it.
  3. Certainly is infectious;
  4. The thing that bugs me is that these delays happen virtually every year, and it always results in attractions opening part way into the holidays. It's interesting to look back at when proper construction was started on previous attractions. Superman: Early June Batwing: Mid July Stunt Driver: Early July Jet Rescue: Early July Assuming you want to have it open by the start of December (To make the most of the entire school holiday period) they are basically leaving themselves only 5 months, and of course the typical start times render an even more desirable September opening all but impossible. Why not just start building sooner? If you have bad luck then you have a bit of buffer, and if you don't, then you can open the ride early. Is it worse to open early than late? Anyhow, I agree completely with the article. For a long time I have felt that new attractions are handled poorly. The common pattern seems to be to start building halfway through the year, pretend the ride doesn't exist to everyone, including the media right to the end, and then do and advertising blitz a couple of weeks before it opens, and then open it halfway into the school holidays. When the parks rely so heavily on interstate visitors this approach seems silly. You cannot find out about a new attraction a couple of weeks before it opens, and then expect to be able to get a room on the Gold Coast and everything else (Flights etc) within that short period. To me, the net result is just value adding to the visits of people who already had trips planned....they get a new thing to see, rather than actually attracting new customers, as a new attractions are supposed to do. I mean, did anyone notice the ride 'n' slide passes they were pushing. They were valid until Christmas eve! Why on earth do they need to be deep discounting in the school holidays. If they had the ride open, they wouldn't need to be doing this. Personally I'd be having the ride advertised on the MyFun site/emails a few months (not weeks) prior, with a link to a blog...the critical thing is to keep it constantly updated, pretty much just bombard people about it and get people hyped. At the same time I'd be focussing on the local market too, pushing annual passes, perhaps with an online offer that if they purchase one by a certain date (within the construction period) they can be assured of a ticket to a VIP event to be 'first to ride'...that way you can have them boosting attendance at the park with their passes during the quiet mid year periods. Within the park, have a similar sort of approach....on the fences around the construction site, have renderings of the new attraction, and advertising for the annual pass upgrade offer and vip events. Of course, you'd need to be careful with making sure the ride will open on time, but I guess one approach could be to state the attractions opening date as being slightly later than what is projected internally. Then if the ride manages to be done early, you can hype up the early opening...and all those people who were following it in the blog would suddenly have something to be excited about.
  5. Thought it would be worth pointing out, but I'm guessing the only reason this got attention on here was because some TPR member from Byron kept insisting (over a number of posts )that this coaster was for Australia: Hahaha.
  6. Definitely go to WWW then, that's the short answer, I'll edit in the longer one soon. Ok, so WWW isn't as big as WnW, but it has some unique slides and the park has good quality rides, so it is worth a look. At the end of the day it is something different. The Green Room is pretty much even with Tornado, it has an extra 90 degrees of turn at the start and a conveyor belt for the rafts so it is 'technically better', but at the end of the day its the same type of slide. The BRO is a better slide than Super 8, it lacks the timing system, but its bigger, faster, and with more air on the dips. The Rip really has nothing to compare with at WnW, but by all accounts it is a very fun slide, and probably one of the main reasons you would visit the park. Supertubes Hydrocoaster is a mixed one. I personally think it is a bit overated, but at the same time it is the most popular slide in the park. Still, going up and downhill is cool, so again you might as well visit for this and make up your own mind. The Little Rippers are just a smaller version of the rip, perhaps not quite as good, but still pretty fun. Its a bit like how WnW has Tornado and Kamikaze...similar to what is already there, but different in their own ways. Temple of Huey is pretty much even with Blackhole/Mach 5 Sidewinders, though perhaps a bit more forceful....going in and out of the darkness is something different, and it is nice that you can ride in single person rings, so you can go backwards or whatever. Nick Pipeline Plunge is quite a bit better than Buccaneer bay, due to its sheer size.....Dunno if this really suits your age group though. It doesn't have any age restrictions like the WnW one though. Cave of Waves is a bit better than the wavepool at WnW, the waves are somewhat bigger, and there is no charge to use the floaty rings. So basically, the main things lacking at WWW that Wnw has are body slides (River Rapids, Twister, Mach 5 Jetstreams), a Lazy River (Calypso Beach) a family raft slide (Mammoth Falls) and of course a coaster (Surfrider) I guess WWW stage two will adress some of these issues, but in the mean time, still give WWW a go and try out the stuff that you cant do at WnW.
  7. It really depends on when your last visit to WnW was. Tell us that, and that should help make the choice a bit clearer.
  8. What makes this one any different to the 74 other B&Ms that have been built, but have not gone to Australia?
  9. Registering on www.myfun.com.au is the only other real 'reliable' way to get discounts, since they always have at least something going for each of the parks. At this time of the year I'm afraid you'll find virtually no other discounts around.
  10. A law against what? Dunno about that one....The closest fast food place to SFMM was a Wendys. As for the topic at hand....Well DW had an Eagle Boys pizza for a period, though I think it is gone now, so it is certainly not without precedent. It doesn't really bother me either way, though my personal preference is for parks to offer high quality stuff that is a little bit unique, but not too exotic for the average parkgoer. Epcot did this really well. There are some merits to having fast food chains in parks, such as brand recognition and lower prices, but I guess I'd rather see something out of the ordinary, after all, half the time you wind up stopping of at Maccas or whatever on the way home from the park.
  11. Hi everyone, for the past couple of minutes I have been building a shrine to Superman Escape. I couldn't find any candles, so I had to settle for the incense sticks and the sacrifice of fresh fruit.
  12. Is Batman better than Back to the Future?
  13. The Spiderman ride is better.
  14. Because the other rides might be good. It'd be like not visiting Tripsdrill because off all the breasts featured there.
  15. ^People aren't going to reply for the sake of it. You need to post updates.
  16. Sounds good. I don't know how much you could see, but has Revenge of the Mummy started having track added? In the last update on the official site it was just the frame of a big building. In any case, Universal Singapore is now in the database here: http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/SG/Sentosa/U...dios_Singapore/
  17. ^Well, it isn't opening for about 12 months, so it's not like you will have 'just missed it' in March. It looks like a pretty cool attraction for Surfers....to be honest I have wondered why it hasn't turned up on the GC already, as it is sort of a perfect fit for the area.
  18. I'ts been more than a week since boxing day old son.
  19. Nah, it wouldn't have been under maintenance, zoom in and you can see boats on the ride, and white water rushing down the drop and water features:
  20. Dunno much else, it was just a short piece on the news tonight that I just caught.
  21. I spoke too soon, a skydiving simulator is being built near Infinity at a cost of $8 million. That option is definitely off the table now for DW, so paintball it is.
  22. An interesting thing I just spotted, but on the GCCC website the following application has gone through:
  23. In some ways though it is interesting to see how the water parks stack up entertainment wise against the dry parks. I guess if I were ranking them it would go: -MW -WnW -SW -WWW -DW -LPM Pretty predictable really.
  24. I'm surprised people can make those assertions. Do you work at Dreamworld?
