  1. Most are probably aware of this already but Sea World confirmed earlier today that it was a faulty sensor which, as a result, engaged the safety systems.
  2. God bless this man... Video embed from article: This is an article from 1 month ago and coincidentally, donations close in 3 hours. Hopefully they can one day expand from ghost trains/dark rides and do general theme park rides on the verge of closure... Too bad the technology wasn't as advance to get dark rides like Eureka Mountain Mine Ride & Bermuda Triangle captured before closure...
  3. I'm talking more to the point where people could develop PTSD as a result of how graphic something is in VR particularly if there is extra non-VR special effects that add to the VR experience.
  4. There are usually anemometers installed at the top of lift hills on rollercoasters.
  5. Small news about the panic rooms here. @AlexB, I don't know how many amusement/theme parks have done horror-like VR experiences or the success of them but I read this ABC article a while ago and I do hope, after reading it, amusements/theme parks don't go too graphic when doing horror-themed etc. VR attractions. That article you shared just then made me concerned that amusement/theme parks may be beginning to approach the line in regards to how graphic a horror-themed etc. VR attraction should be.
  6. That headline reminds me so much of the headlines of satirical news publications.
  7. Assuming the photos I've seen are from today's malfunction (they got '1st' watermarks over them), I think carriages were stopped in 3 places at least - the top of the lift hill, the block brakes at the top of the hill after the 1st drop & the block brakes prior to the main drop. So whatever the problem was it affect a lot of the ride and not just 1 part of the track. From footage I've seen, they did let 2 carriages continue the course one at a time (in backwards order) as the footage shows only the lift hill carriage left stuck at one point. Also, I read Nine News reporting that it may be due to the wind. After checking Sea World's webpage on the ride, it does say the "Storm Coaster does not operate in some weather conditions". It was still windy at the time of evacuation so if wind is the reason for it stopping, then it was only right to evacuate instead of waiting it out.
  8. If you read my original post carefully, there were some keywords: Like @djrappa said, time to move on - whether or not TopGolf and the rollercoaster share sites, golf balls will be prevented from getting out and both projects will be built to accommodate one another.
  9. I agree. I didn't think my post was contradicting what you said?
  10. Ok. I think I got it now. Regarding everything on the southern side of Foxwell Road, I think it won't be built (or at least the supermarket) until the major retail anchors of Westfield Coomera are open.
  11. Just saw this breaking on ABC News 24. And yes, they are showing live images. (No live coverage since 12:34pm AEST)
  12. It would save costs and logistical work to share the same construction site instead of just creating separate construction sites for each project (assuming the projects share borders). For all we know, the rollercoaster & TopGolf may share the same site with netting preventing the golf balls from entering the rollercoaster track area. It would be a pretty memorable marketing image to seeing people playing golf on a driving range with a rollercoaster in the background.
  13. The supports in the foreground are definitely the rollercoaster but I think most people were trying to point out that TopGolf would be built in the background to the left. Also: This Facebook post from one of the GCCC's councillors said "several additional announcements still to be made over the next six months". That means until late March 2017. So far, I can only think of 3 potential announcements: The rollercoaster The lakeside/entertainment precinct The hotel TopGolf is not included as that was announced back in June. Assuming there are no more announcements (hopefully not ), that could be one every 2 months - one in November (which is currently likely to be the rollercoaster), one in January & one in March.
  14. DW said in a Facebook comment today regarding Eureka Mountain Mine Ride's potential re-opening: "...if we can, one day we will." Yes, that is nothing new but it still validates the present status of the ride's future.
  15. That very large document (Pages 9/10) I posted says it is built in stages & was last amended in 2010? So does that mean the August 2013 plans I found or your plans are more up to date?
  16. When I mean 'permanent', I also mean that MW owns them and only installs them for the nights rather than hiring out a contractor and filling in all the paper work for a rarely conducted pyrotechnic display. Using the Wayback Machine link @AlexB provided, I found that they did have pyrotechnic displays listed in Oxenford last October each Friday/Saturday night (and some Sunday/Thursday nights) at 6pm, 7pm & 8pm - I can only assume this was for last year's Fright Nights. So whatever it is, it is something that features at Fright Nights but not Carnivale. Is it this?: In the end, after this, I'm starting to conclude that fire effects isn't what is so special about DD at Fright Nights. I suspect it is just extra G-forces on that 2nd revolution like @Luke speculated.
  17. Plus, a hotel & lakeside/entertainment precinct. TopGolf's construction was due to commence around September (or more accurately "in the next few months" - said in late June). I read in the Gold Coast Bulletin that the planned hotel was to be placed on top of a MW carpark (which carpark I don't know). You're probably referring to my post: The only way to figure out if Movie World is associated with this is if someone can figure out how many rollercoasters Mack Rides are manufacturing. If 2 are currently scheduled for completion in the timeframe given above & Movie World's one of those, Movie World's rollercoaster could be one of those designed specifically for virtual reality.
  18. That's what I'm assuming about the southern supermarket too. How up to date are those plans? I saw very similar plans (Page 23) from August 2013 last weekend. There are noticeable differences but the retail section is very identical. I found these plans near development applications for 'Westfield Coomera - Stage 1' so I assumed it all was for Stage 1 with a 'Westfield Coomera - Stage 2' across Foxwell Road.
  19. No. A 'world's best' rollercoaster is definitely not going to come from a scrapyard. The photo is completely unrelated to MW's rollercoaster. Need to be more specific on what you are talking about.
  20. If you say so. I read in a very large document (Page 15/16) that accompanied that map that said Precinct 1c is to include a supermarket so I assumed the Westfield development includes that too (even if it isn't the main part of it). There is plenty of extra DW space just east of the southern end of Precinct 1c which doesn't include the Vintage Cars too - this is a separate precinct known as Precinct 8, which features in that very large document on pages 27/28.
  21. The "themed entertainment, ride & retail outlet" development application they are referring to is very likely the DC Comics Super-Villians Unleashed area and not the rollercoaster. Like @pin142 said, it seems like the Gold Coast Bulletin only just discovered RCDB, Parkz, the recently added development application or even the large construction site at the park (How could they not notice after nearly a month?). The only thing that can be defined as 'new' in the article is a possible announcement date - "near future" - which still follows what I said back at the start of this month: This would indicate an announcement no later than the 20th of November 2016 (otherwise instead of saying "In the coming months", he would have said "Next year"). They didn't say that. You mixed the VRTP spokesperson's quote up with the RCDB paragraph. According to Theme Park Review, an extremely identical one was recently seen in southern Los Angeles. This pretty much:
  22. Well that would definitely not be an illegal fireworks display. It is more likely that display wasn't added to the list at those points in time. After all, the lists we have found were either 5 months prior to the display (which is still very early to be added to the list) or after the display (which would mean it was removed).
  23. I know but I thought I'd just give a reminder to @pin142. You probably know more detail information about the development than me (as I've only just recently returned to discuss Gold Coast theme parks) but from what I know, I think it is on both sides of the road but built in stages. The northern side of the road being built first (Precinct 1a) then the southern side (Precinct 1b) and if all the main retail anchors are operating, then DW's end of the southern portion (Precinct 1c) will be built. If there is more up to date plans, just share them with me so I can be more up to date if I'm wrong.
  24. If VR (maybe with the head strapping too) becomes a mainstream consumer product, I wouldn't be surprised if in the future you could just go to a theme park with your VR headset and purchase a temporary download of the VR experience at a ride's retail outlet (one that expires each day at closing time & only works upon entry at the ride though scanning of a code etc.). Lasers. There would be no problem with speed. If the ride has a sudden stop in block brakes etc. due to malfunction, the VR 'world' would stop in the same spot too. The opposite also applies - if you are waiting in the station, the VR 'world' wouldn't travel. This is, of course, assuming the VR is working.
