Big change coming for Luna Park after hitting the market (realcommercial.com.au) Who's buying? It will continue to operate as an amusement park, and a good chunk of the structures are heritage listed.

Disney Expanding Footprint Name In Australia
downunder replied to Chalky's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Frankston sounds like a place Mickey would get mugged and robbed lol. Disney in Australia seems to be becoming a trope of slow news days. Perhaps Universal doing one of their smaller park installations is more realistic. Just a hypothetical, is there enough vacant space at Docklands to accommodate a full-scale Disney park? Just speaking for myself from a tourist perspective, I already love that the major sporting venues are in the CBD and so easy to get to. Let alone a large-scale park. -

Slow news day - trot out some speculative nonsense about Disney coming to Australia lol. Maybe we'll start seeing this at Australian parks: -

Lol they can't blame Intamin this time. Shame, it looks like a great ride experience (albeit without the amazing first launch of the original). Hope they can get a viable, permanent fix to the problem. -
Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2024
downunder replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah Piss Weak World from an old comedy show is looking a winner at the moment. I'm an informed consumer, so I just don't go, with the exception of Fright Nights, it's been years. I feel for consumers who aren't as informed. -

I agree, there's tons of cool animal exhibits, and I personally think Shark Bay is world class with some great experiences attached to it to boot. I've done the tropical reef snorkel and the cage dive (back when Elle the Bull Shark was still around) and love that attraction. My partner has dived all over the world and seen tons of sea creatures in the wild and she was impressed (wasn't expecting to). -

I was always found it ironic that such a crap ride is surrounded by a really cool precinct (IMO). Moving Batwing there and adding a second accompanying drop tower probably wouldn't make enough sense, and they already have a star flyer down the road. It costs money to pull it down obviously, so they'll delay that expense as long as they can if the past is any indicator. Maybe the maintenance designation can be changed to extended decommissioning lol. I did Dream Circus at LPS on the weekend and that set a new baseline for utter shit, so I'm being pretty kind to DD right now. -
Do-Dodonpa Permanently Closes at Fuji-Q
downunder replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I rode something that I believe had similar technology at Old Town in Florida called G-Force which was basically a sedan shaped race car on a flat track that accelerated in a straight line. That really took me by surprise, so I can only imagine how crazy Dodonpa was. I hear Moonsault Scramble at Fuji-Q was pretty crazy too, some said it should be illegal lol. -

That is a bummer, I would have loved to have ridden this - but understand why they had to close it. Missed Hypersonic XLC at King's Dominion by a year too. -
I went Fri and Sat night too. I'd never been on Leviathan before, so I spent most of Friday riding the beast. Pleasantly surprised at the wait time and it was running so well at night. I'm not sure if the wet track helped. Leviathan impressed me, kind of a cross between Twister at Gronalund and Ghostrider. I really liked the upcharge back row (just the ride not the upcharge). I caught a little of the show on Saturday and that looked spectacular. Otherwise, it seemed quite sparse, but the performers present were doing a good job. I tried the seafood boilup near Dockside, that was very average and poor value. Definitely worth it for the night rides on Leviathan and Jet Rescue for me personally, definitely not for the event alone (I don't have a season pass).

Busch Gardens Tampa - 12/11/23 - With Iron Gwazi!
downunder replied to Gazza's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Back row late at night (during Howl O Scream) on Iron Gwazi blew my mind. Personally I think the Premier Sky Rockets are vastly superior to sky loops like Buzzsaw. They don't make B & Ms like Montu and Kumba anymore. Arguably (as sum of all parts) the best coaster line up in Florida, and one of the best in America. -
It sure had a kick to it, even caught me by surprise. Maybe it used a similar compressed air launch like Dodonpa and Hypersonic XLC. Lol I'm actually having PTSD about Old Town from that trip. Went to buy cheap tickets there for Universal and got hooked into a time share seminar to get discounted tickets. Now that was an interesting experience.

White Lightning at Orlando Fun Spot I thought was a fun little coaster. When Kissimmee Fun Spot was just Old Town they had this ride called G-Force which was just a race car on a track that launched on a straight track and it really packed a punch. I think it might have been an S & S death machine. Shame it disappeared.

Islands of Aventure / VelociCoaster / Hagrids - November 2023
downunder replied to Gazza's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I got to experience that too, it was awesome - and the long queue walk, people were lost in there when I went. What a loss, it's a shame they couldn't keep Dragons and still get Hagrid's.- 5 replies

Islands of Aventure / VelociCoaster / Hagrids - November 2023
downunder replied to Gazza's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I went in 2022, and was so impressed with the 2 newest coasters. Miraculously I was on Hagrid's at 8.10am the day I went, I expected a couple of hour wait to get on. Hagrid's would be amazing at night I imagine, as would Velocicoaster. I got a pretty rough ride on Hulk, which was surprising, I was front middle, but my two friends on the end seats were fine. The park is great, it will be really interesting to see what they do with Lost Continent. Hopefully they retain Mythos at least, that was a fun place to eat. And with Epic Universe coming, which is bigger than both parks combined, the future is looking bright.- 5 replies

Luna Park's New $15 Million immersive attraction- The Dream Circus
downunder replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Sigh, it meant no Halloscream mazes in the big top this year lol. I got an email about this and skimmed through thinking it was a temporary thing for summer. Not for me, but I hope it goes well for them. -
I was just at staying at Knott's last month and Six Flags seemed a world away. I thought about going, but I wasn't that enthused about going all that way and nor was my local mate who would have been driving.

Lol talk about merging chocolate with dog poop. In all seriousness, like others have observed, if the Six Flags parks started being run the Cedar Fair way in general that should be an improvement. I believe they only have competing parks in LA and San Fran (and California's Great America was closing anyway before the merger), and Magic Mountain and Knott's have co-existed for decades - it would be an interesting hypothetical if one of those 2 closed how much would the other benefit in terms of attendance. And Six Flags is a brand that has recognition, but is not necessarily an attractive brand - I'd never go to a park because it's Six Flags (probably the opposite) and the general consumer market I doubt cares either.
