  1. Gazza he did tell us when he was working on T.O.T. So it would not be very hard to work out who he was. I think this is a person trying to talk up there position within a company. We already know that the ride is not going to be the next superman. I have never seen a person join this site and add so many posts so quick. I think he just wants us to know what he does for a job. Dreamworld Ride Op we welcome you.
  2. Does not seem like there is much track left after just after the final turns and brake section is completed. Could it be there are more tracks on its way that might have more structural elements to it? LOL bank last corner after it has slowed down you guys crack me up.
  3. The track looks a lot like there indoor roller coaster track. But Intamin say options such as catapult launch systems, loops, barrel turns and many more can be used for this track. We wil have to wait and see. I'm betting this is going to be a big let down. Another idea I just had. I think poles are different then the norm because on the height the track is from the ground. By reducing the height of the track and increasing the number of poles it would reduce shear in the track. If the shear of the track has been reduced from the use of these poles then it would make sense for the track size to be reduced and still able to go quick enough. And Richard that track is orange no matter how you look at it. LOL
  4. I can’t see how can you say with the information available that it could be a design fault being that each system is a different concept. Do you know why only the American parks closed these rides when they are built all over the world? Why did some parks close rides that use cables that are not drops at all? The two systems are not fundamentally identical, they may get the same outcome but by manipulating the cable in different ways. The Giant Drop winches and the SFKK use a pulley and weight system. These two rides where made years apart and maybe the design has changed between this time. Dreamworld would know a lot of this information and would make an educated decision and it would not be made on a gut feeling. On Sunrise today the CEO did say that they are total different systems. The manufacture of the ride said they have not supplied any parts to SFKK for seven years and the cable had to be changed every couple of years.
  5. I don't think Dreamworld kept the ride open on a gut feeling. I don’t know who told you that Dreamworld made the decision to keep the ride operating without any information available from the situation in Kentucky. Dreamworld is in the best position in knowing if the ride is safe or not and dreamworlds engineers would have had talks with Intamin and any supplies of the parts. The Forces and wear and tear would be different due to the fact that there would be more side contact on the cable from one system to the other. I do not think dreamworld should bow to the media because we know how many times they get it right or stretch the truth to get there ratings up. I don’t think that people will not go to dreamworld because the ride is still open. I too understand what you are saying Richard but I don't think the media is a good source of information.
  6. The manufacturer of the Superman Tower of Power says it did not supply the cable that sliced off a girl's feet at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom on Thursday. The ride's cables and wire ropes would have had the need for replacement at least several times since the ride opened in 1995, but those replacement parts did not come from Intamin. The company says it has not supplied parts for the ride for 13 years. Inspectors from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Office of Consumer and Environmental Protection believe that the cable is to blame for the accident, but they are still trying to determine why the cable snapped and how it got caught around the girl's legs. The girl remains hospitalized, but there is no word on her condition So why is the media asking for the ride to be shut down. Facts – 1. Giant Drop & Superman Tower of Power has different cable systems that pull them to the top. 2. At no times do people come to close proximity to the cable on the giant drop. 3. The cable runs behind the gondolas of the Superman Tower Of Power. 4. The cables are supplied from different supplies. I understand why all the six flags parks would stop all there drops as they would get there cables from the same supplier. This is just a typical media beat up when they had no other stories to run. I did not even see it on the news till I saw the question get asked on this web site. (Richard)"But particular models of planes have in the past been grounded as a result of crashes. I'd say without much doubt that this is a freak accident, but I find it a bit of a stretch to call such a valid and justified precautionary measure 'neuroticism'. I can't see how it would make sense to keep them open until they can rule out with 100% certainty that it's not a design flaw." It can be ruled out 100% that it is not a design flaw by there being two lift systems and two totaly different designs.
  7. Enterprise catches fire; 37 suffer burns (Friday, May 18, 2007) - In Rakvere, Estonia, an Enterprise amusement ride somehow caught fire, leaving 37 people with burn and smoke inhalation injuries. The victims, six of whom suffered serious injuries, were rushed to local hospitals where they were treated and released within 24 hours. The carnival is operated by Tivoli Tuur. The ride consists of twenty 2-passenger gondolas which are suspended from the outside of a wheel that is raised to a vertical position while spinning at high speed. The fire broke out while the ride was operating at full speed. Why did this not make the news? Why did dreamworld not stop running there one?
  8. I think this is just another media beat up. The Superman Tower of Power if different to the giant drop and I think this is why dreamworld is not concerned with it. Intamin AG also has said in their press release that not all parts are made from them so just like an Australian car company it would not be hard to believe that the giants drops cables might have been brought local and not from the same supplier. On the Superman Tower Of Power you can see how a cable from one side could hit a person nearby if a cable broke. If you think about where the cables are on the giant drop then what do you think would happen if one broke?
  9. I went past, on the way to work today and seen cranes lifting the track into place, if someone could get there and take some photos today it would be great.
  10. This is interesting the Imax Theatre is closed until further notice. This is on dreamworlds web site. Few reasons why this could be. 1. Backs on to mine ride and needs to be shut for safety, while they repair mine car ride. 2. New attraction coming replacing mine car and Imax theatre. 3. Dreamworld is falling apart and maybe its time to replace the management. Just got an email back from dreamworld and this is what they said. "Mine Ride will be re-opening later in the year. We have a new ride also opening in September/October. Best to check our Website for all information Hope you decide to renew your pass. We have something new available with this also ( from June 23rd). You should receive a newsletter about this. Kind regards Di Finniss Guest Services Manager"
  11. The workings of a fire system are not that hard to understand. There just has to be water on site and dreamworld has a lot of water. Water can be pumped from the lagoon. What I was saying is the main cost of a fire system is in been able to hold over 20 000l of water on site. So for a fire system for this ride you would need sprinklers every 1500mm, pipe around 50mm round, pump, back flow valve, inspection points and maybe a booster. Very simple. The heat from fire expands chemical inside the glass on the sprinklers, which breaks glass-causing sprinkler to come on. There would be a small tank above ride filled with water as this empties it would be refilled from the lagoon. The workings of a fire system are very simple so it does not break down. I think Richard is correct at it has nothing to do with the cost of a fire system if in fact a fire system is the problem.
  12. A new fire system would not be that expensive that it would cause them to shut down the ride. Automatic fire sprinkler and drencher systems would not cost that much when they could use the water from the rapid ride next door. It would already have an exit and emergency lighting system built. The ride may require a Mechanical smoke venting system. If it was to do with fire safety the only thing I could think of is they have found the materials which the mountain are built from do not provide enough fire resistance or the materials burn to quick not giving enough time for people to get out. It would not cost them more then what they spent on the log ride with its two new hills for an improved fire system, but if there was a problem, with the mountain itself, then to strip it and reline it might cost to much.
  13. Well they need do something to keep there money flowing in, there oil is running out.
  14. The list I provided has been confirmed. These are your new housemates. ninemsn.com.au web site are running a story about the leak, “I wonder how ninemsn.com.au found out about it “wink wink”. Channel 10 denied all but I have just received proof from an insider at the launch tonight. Mike keeps coming out in the breaks offering prizes to point anyone out in the audience who is leaking the information out.
  15. Big brother web site stuffed up and revealed who will be in the house. Goto http://www.behindbigbrother.com/posts/updates/993 if you want to see the new house mates. "A dedicated Big Brother fan has found a glitch in Three’s Big Brother WAP site, which contains the names and photos of 20 housemates. Aleisha, Andrew, Brodie, Cruz, Demet, Emma, Harrison, Hayley, Jamie, Joel, Kara, Kate, Rebecca, Sussanah, Thomas, TJ, Travis, and Zoran are expected to enter the house tomorrow night during the launch at Dreamworld"
  16. Big Brother 07 web site is now open. You can now Register for forums, chat, competitions, newsletters and all the latest news and video updates.
  17. In light of new information from an interview on the news last night with a dreamworld Tiger handler I would like to add more information. The cubs can be watched with their mother on monitors out side of the nursery, which is located inside Tiger Island. At 3 weeks the tigers will be removed from their mothers and placed within the nursery, at this point you will be able to watch the cubs through the windows. At 6 weeks the handlers will be walking the tigers around the park so they can interact with the guest. The tigers will also be introduced to the Bengal tigers on Tiger Island. At around 2 years of age the tigers are going to be leaving dreamworld as part of the breading programme that it is involved with. I recommend visiting the park while the handlers are walking the cubs around the park. It is your best chance to get close to a tiger without having to shell out any money. The handlers encourage you to touch the tigers during their walk around the park and you are allowed to take photos.
  18. Just reading about the new litter of Sumatran tiger cubs at dreamworld and found out that they will be hand trained and displayed at Tiger Island. The new cubs parents have never been to been to Tiger Island due to the fact that these tigers where not hand raised by the dreamworld staff. Dreamworld staff will soon be removing the cubs from their mother taking over that role.
  19. What where the surveyors doing as they do not inspect things. Movie world would have all the heights for there park without the need to call in a surveyor. I would think the surveyor would be adding in datum marks for when the builders come along.
  20. When the T.O.T gets up to the programmed run height of the tower the pod would not have a problem getting back to the station. I believe from what I have heard is that the magnets push the pod back towards the station at a set speed before they are used to slow it down. I do not know what the speed is on the return trip but it would be interesting to find out. I have also seen the T.O.T returning to the station after it has been tripped out and not make it back to the station. When this happened the pod started to roll back towards the tower but then the system reset and the magnets slowly propelled it back to the station at about 5km/hr and sent it on its way again. I don't know what they do if when the pod is rolling back towards the tower and it gets further then the magnets go on the track before it resets itself. I don't know how the bog area works but this is my idea why the power shuts down. I believe the bog system would have a max speed that it could stop safely so if there was a problem with a sensor or magnet if would make sense to turn it all of in case it is trying to make the pod go faster then the safety factor of the bog system. I suspect the T.O.T. could go a lot faster then it does go, just like the reliability of running a car at 100km/hr when the car is made to go over 200km/hr. Please tell me if my ideas are heading in the correct direction.
  21. I spoke to a maintenance guy one day when the T.O.T was returning to the station slowly who said to me "Each magnet has it's own transformer under it and when one transformer overheats it will trip out that magnet. If the T.O.T. program which is talking to each transformer with questions like are you there, are you working and so on does not get a response because the transformer has shut down the T.O.T program shuts down power to all transformers and resets them.” This happens a lot on hot days. I think the small incline heading towards the station washes a fair bit of speed off while the T.O.T has time to reset itself. I saw the T.O.T trip out as soon as it was shot out of the tunnel once and it did not make it up the curve of the tower. I think the track of the T.O.T. is designed to slow the car down on the return to the station when the transformers are tripped. If my ideas were correct, then this would take away the excitement of doing 160km to the last second because you would be slowing down up the incline while returning to the station instead of getting propelled back.
  22. Would your idea take away some of the thrill of the T.O.T. I thought when then T.O.T is returning to the station it is getting propelled backwards by the magnets to keep the speed up. If this is so then what is your idea in keeping the speed up on the way back to the station?
  23. It's about time you started to read other replies. As I am a person that works in this field and want to know what do you bring to the table in your uneducated replies. Don't make jokes about people if you have no idea what you are talking about. As the old saying goes don't judge a book by its cover. Just because you think its 3 storey high does not prove anything because you have no idea where these measurements are taken from.
  24. The Corkscrew is 28m high. The average height of a ceiling is between 2440mm - 3000mm. The average height of a slab is 300mm. If you add these 2 together and divided it into 28m you get 28/(3000+300)= 8.48 storeys. The town planning act states for housing 2 storeys with a max height of 8m if you divided 8m by 2 you get 4m and if you dived 28m by 4m you get 7 storeys. It would not have to comply to a storey but more likely a height limit. The Corkscrew being 28m sets a standard for the rest of the park. ( for example water front homes had a 3 storey limit but in the new town planning act this has been reduced to 2 storeys. If you had a block of land and you wanted to build on this today the act states it must be 2 storeys to comply to town planning but if this block had two 3 storeys on either side of it you are deemed to comply under the act to fit into the street scape and could apply and get a relaxation for this house to be 3 storeys. The council approve alot of relations for heights and how close you can build to boundaries but they will normally put conditions on it like screening to reduce the impact. The thurderbolt was 31 meters high only 3 meters higher then the corkscrew. You can understand the eye not getting approved since it is 60m high more then double the height of the Corkscrew.
  25. Corkscrew is already over 3 more like 5. So I think this could be used to show cause to the council. Laws have changed on the gold coast about heights. For example in some areas homes where allowed to be 3 but this has changed to 2. You have a case for a new dwelling to be 3 if the houses on ether sides are already 3 under the Gold Coast planning Act. Sea Word could use this to build to the same height of the Corkscrew. If they pulled the Corkscrew down then they would only be able to go to 3 instead of th current height of the Corkscrew.
