  1. *sigh* the only record Australia holds...a unique one as well. Gone. Ahh well it was bound to happen though. I'm actually surprised it took this long...almost 13 years. Quite a long time considering how quickly coaster records are trumped. Top Thrill and Kingda Ka are a perfect example. That launched Maurer Sohne just goes to show how cool an x-car coaster can be. Dreamworld.....whyyyyy?!! why the skywheel model :/
  2. The photos are on their facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/OutsidersAU It's been hinted for months throughout this thread (even the name of the thread, El Loco = crazy) that MW's new coaster will be an El Loco from S&S. example from back in July (MickeyD) - From the look of the supports, it's pretty much confirmed. I'm actually really pleased with the choice. It'll be exciting to see what MW does with this coaster; especially if they are going with a custom layout. Good to see that it's a proper full circuit rollercoaster as well, unlike the one trick pony up the road. Themes? The joker seems like a great option (the idea has been speculated earlier in this thread). I'd say that it's a fitting choice for for the location, plus it's a "El Loco" coaster. Joker = el loco = crazy
  3. Same here. IMO, for their budget, it looks like DW have hit the sweet spot with the balance of thrill ride and themeing. It's a thrilling ride with themeing (not just huge major coaster with no themeing). Personally I prefer with a theme. Also, the drop back into and through the station looks like it'll produce a cool headchopper effect.
  4. I'm heading up to Dreamworld on the week following the September 17th opening. Should be able to get some photos/video of the new ride
  5. I happened to catch the show last night. It was really nice to see Movieworld in HD quality . The segment was quite good, although nothing we haven't seen before, i don't think. If you missed the show, Getaway post their shows up onto their website, so heres the LINK. It should be in the videos when u scroll down (the first row). They also mentioned, that they'll be testing out seaworld's new coaster on next weeks show. So 7:30 next week thursday on channel 9, for people from Melbourne .
  6. Well i voted MW, obvious choice . If MW wasn't there, for some wierd reason, i wouldv'e picked W'n'W as my favourite park of 09.
  7. Hmm that's interesting. Throughout this week it's been a rumour that it will open today. Looks like it was true. Sorry Gazza, i wish i couldv'e gone today, but I didn't see your post and we r very bussy this time of year, with christmas shopping and everything. So it looks like i won't be able to go today . But hopefully over these school holidays, i'll be able to go down and get some good shots, and mabey even a video up. hahahaha same. I was a bit taken a back when i saw it pop up onto the news. But yer what you said, pretty much sums it up. They had some good video footage. Hopefully that will be up on the web soon, so everyone can see it. Apparently the LED's on the wheel, are going to look really spectacular at night. So hopefully when I go to ride the wheel, i'll go at around 6 at night, so i can get some shots of the wheel at night and during the day. I don't know if this has been asked before here, but i was wondering what people think of the wheel. e.g. Was it really needed in Melbourne?.
  8. Well there is an update, but very similar to Joz's, on themeparkphotography.com. It looks like the first launch and station will be inside a cave , considering the station is also covered by the white-pole arches. Great!, So did you get any video, of the ride in action? Or mabey just pictures? It'll be good to see how fast this thing travels, especially near the end. So we can compare to DW's moto-coaster. Looking forward to the update
  9. ^ Nah not yet. It seems like it's taking ages Since my last photo update, nothing has really progressed. Just a little tidying up here and there. It's openning on the 28th next week. So next friday. I might be able to get to the wheel during my school holidays to ride it and take pictures. The shopping complex behind it, 'Harbour Town' has been open for around 3 weeks now, so everything should be nearly complete around the outskirts of the wheel.
  10. wow, great pics Gazza! It looks like they really want to make this ride really eyecatching from the bridge and other viewing areas. I'm really excited about this coaster, it seems like SW really hit the nail on the head with this one. And that tunnel is gonna be interesting. But i really don't see how that's gonna work? . So the train comes down that banked hill and onto the 2nd launch, (now this is where the tunnel is gonna be, yes?) where it will be launched again. But how will the cars slow down to a complete stop (or slow speed) for the storyline (the sealion that is trapped), before the tires kick in and launch the cars?
  11. It looks like the wheel will be up and running sooner than i had imagined acording to a newspaper article in todays Sunday Herald Sun. They are saying that it will open on the weekend of the Melbourne Cup, which is from the 5th, to the 7th of Nov. But there really isn't an official openning date yet . I want to get there on the opening day, so i can take some pics, vid of the opening ceremony and stuff like that. So i guess I'll just have to keep an eye out for that date. I have attached a pic of the article below, for your viewing pleasure
  12. Thanks Joz for the update. Looks A LOT more lower to the ground than MDMC, and the transitions are MUCH more quicker. It looks like you'll be 'flicked' through the transitions in this picture, rather than ease gently into them. I'm still not really getting this layout btw . Like I'm not too sure where the trains are heading after the first launch, and then after that where do they enter the 2nd launch. Would this pic attached be right, in which way they are launched from the station (1st launch) and which way the train will enter the second launch? Could somebody mabey sketch up a layout, because I can't really visualise it at the moment. Thanks
  13. Sorry about that. Well it seems like u have found and checked the pics already, thanks for that Richard . Well there are now a few more pics to be viewed. So for anyone that hasn't seen them yet, here are the links for anyone who is too lazy to head to the home page : Overview: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Melbourne...65-23_9_08.html Overview: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Melbourne...r_overview.html Overview: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Melbourne...64-23_9_08.html Station (loading and unloading platform): http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Melbourne...e_building.html Close-up of one of the cars: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Melbourne...tar_cabins.html
  14. I would actually like to see another sit-down coaster, even though Australia has a lot. Especially any of these from Intamin: a Mega-Lite Coaster, Mega Coaster or a Giga Coaster. Can anyone tell me what the difference between a Mega and a Giga are?? They look exactly the same IMO. Or a sitdown hyper-coaster from B&M would be fun and intense. Actually anything from B&M is great in my books. A Stand-up would be a great novelty coaster. It will definately bring in more people than just a sit-down coaster and will provide a different feeling, which will be interesting. Except are they uncomfortable to ride, restraint wise? If so, is it more so for guys? Well that would be..... AWESOME . I want a wooden even more so than one of those Intamin's as I stated before. Never ridden a proper wooden rollercoaster before. Since the Scenic railway doesn't really count . Are they really as rough as people make them out to be? Mabey a El Toro type woody will be good for MW, as it uses that new steel track from Intamin. But I would still like to experience a original 'wooden, wooden' coaster one day. So i'll pick sit-down in the poll, but I would've picked wooden if it was there.
  15. Thanks Gazza . I didn't think the pics would be checked that fast so I was going to post in this thread tomorrow morning as well as add more pics but i guess you bet me to it . *sigh* Yeah it's moving soooo slowly. It' been ages since there has bee a photo update, and all that has really happened is the addition of the carriges. But the station is one of the 3 levels in that bulding below. I think it's 3, because the other 2 are going to be used as for retail shops, restaurants and cafe's. So when you think about it's a huge project. Um i'm not very familiar of the Dockland's Area, so i don't really know what 'Harbour Town' is, soz. Is this the area in the back on the wheel? And in this PIC I didn't think that we were able to drive down that road. The road looks like u can drive on it, but the lights are not working where this road intersects with the main road outside the site. BTW, when searching the web for more info on the wheel, I found an officail website: http://www.thesouthernstar.com.au/. Has a interesting computer animated vid of the attraction
  16. That's why I love riding in the back, especially on gravity driven coasters (ordinary chainlift and drops). It gives you that extra pull over the drop. Espcially on corkscrew, which = Airtime . I also find Superman more forcefull in the back. Even on the launch there is a significante difference in forces from the front car to the back car. It still makes me laugh how people think that the front is the worst part of the train to sit in, so they stay in the middle or back rows. But little do they know that they were better off sitting in the front row lol
  17. That transition looks much smaller than what's on MotorCoaster. Even by looking at what is already up, it looks like we got a fast coaster on our hands. If they are banking at nearly 90 degrees (would that be 90 degress on the last left hand turn in this PIC) on the last turn it's gotta be fast or at least maintain it's speed throughout the ride. It's smart thinking by Intamin. But won't it affect the end cars speed around the last corner? Because if you think about it, the front couple cars hit the 'trim brake', slowing down the train, the back carriges will still be on the banked u-turn. Making the back cars travel slower than the front around the last bend?
  18. Woah a lot has been done since last week when I took my pics! I really think this show is going to rock. I mean $10 million isn't something to be sneezed at. My only fear is that they'll be focussing more on the stunts than anything else, and the rest of the performance will be kinda dull (acting, script, e.t.c.). On a little side note, when I was up on the gc last week, we went to Conrad Jupiters to see the stage show. Before the show I was walking around the different restaurants, and this bar called the Prince Albert I think, had a sign up showing their entertainment lineup for the coming months. And on there was Michael Bennett. Some stand-up comedy I think. So it looks like 'Mad Mike's' got some gigs until the new show starts . Actually, does anybody know if he'll return for the new show?
  19. Great pics Gazza. It looks like they have taken inspiration from WWW's BRO for the shade sails ontop of the ride. Just wondering, cause I can't really see in the picture, but will Kamikaze have a conveabelt to take the rafts up? Because I can't stand taking up huge tubes . That's probably why I like WWW over W'n'W, because most of the slides use conveabelts to take the rafts up. Not so much the 1 or 2 person tubes, but the clover-leaf tubes are a pain to walk up the stairs with. And I just got a e-mail from MyFun about the Kamikaze. They major thing they say is that it will be opening on the 1st of October, so not long now guys: Here is a screenshot, If u prefer to read the original article lol :
  20. ^This is very true. Here is a picture af the large area of carpark they have cornered off: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coas...ctise_Area.html Another picture from the bus on the way out of Movieworld shows that they are actually using the area. It looks like they are going to have cars on 2 wheels!! They also had a couple of guys on push bikes doing wheelies on the inside of the barrier, but close to the wall. Mabey they'll have bike stunts also? . You can't see the guys on the bikes in this picture though. http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coas...ctice_Area.html Here is a pic I took of the set construction: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coas...round_work.html Well it looks like nothing has really progressed from the last post from Klassen24. Does anybody know when the show is planned to start? Because it looks like they are taking there time with this one. They have completely ripped down the overflow seating, and the pic I took is from a temporary fence exactly where the overflow stand used to be. The area is just flat dirt now. It's hard to believe that PASS was even there last year.
  21. lol that bin is awesome! I could just imagine someone going up to it and then the bin yelling at them as they open the lid . I wouldn't mind one of those at my house actually! Well back on topic. Being one of those people who were really against the idea of the roof, and hated it from the first rumour, I was pleasently suprised when I saw it in person last week. For people like me who also thought this was a very bad idea, head down to Movieworld and check it out. The pictures of it don't do it justice. As for the atmosphere, it hasn't been altered at all. IMO the roof actually suits Main Street better. Because now it look like a movie set. The only differences that I noticed is that it's a little louder when there are shows, cause everything echoes (but that should be fixed easily) and there is no sun (which is a good thing on a 28 degree day!). However, as said before, it does look a bit bland and hopefuly they dress it up a bit. Here is a pic that I took down Mainstreet: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coas...reet_Roof_.html
  22. Woah! Vertical construction already? When is this supposed to be finished by, does anyone know?? It looks like it's going to be a good coaster. But only time will tell. I rode the Motorcoaster at Dreamworld last week for the first time. My general thought was: FAILURE. The launch, first turn and first hill was good, but after that.... I was just like, did i mistake this for the Runaway Reptar Coaster?? Final comments: It's a family coaster, no way is it a thrill ride. At least WVTP's hasn't stated that it's a 'thrill ride' yet, like Dreamworld did, and then the ride turned out to be a family coaster . From the 2 pics I don't think you can really tell what the layout is going to be like, but that last turn into the brakes looks more tighter, as said before. Who knows it could turn out like another moto-coaster, which is all we need! Random question, how fast are the launches going to be on the Jet Rescue coaster?? Will it be any faster than the MDMC's. When you think about it there is only one good 'thrill/extreme' rollercoaster in Australia at the moment (Superman). The rest are either too slow, rough or outdated *cough* TOT *cough* . 2 things I want from a coaster are consistant speed and smoothness. My favourtie coasters in Australia would have to be Corkscrew and Superman Escape cause of their smoothness and consistant fast speeds. And that's all I hope from this new coaster.
  23. ^lol I happened to get to the attraction on Sunday. It's situated in the abandoned Blue Lagoon area, and they have used the function centre i'm pretty sure for the walkthough. As for the attraction itself I thought it was pretty good for a temporary ride. I was in the front in my group, so I got scared nearly all the time . The sets were REALLY good. The only other 'temporary scary walkthough attraction' I have been to was Prison Break Live at Luna Park in Melbourne. The set was really bad, it consited of fog, strobe lights on constantly and a maze, with like 6 actors. Compared to prison break, The Mummy was really good. And as said before the actors made the spots that weren't up to scratch really good. Made the trip to DW a little better .
  24. Back on topic with the new ride, I've been going past W'nW for the past 3 days (on holidays, doing all the themeparks with my family, except W'n'W ) and I still haven't taken a pic from the bus yet. I'll get one on Thursday, going to DW. The whole ride is up, both slides are up I'm pretty sure and the tower. The slide is white with bright blue side gards, so u don't fly off the sides. And the tower is painted....urgghh, makes sick every time i think of the colour. Is painted BRIGHT RED. The whole tower, stairs, supports, everything RED . At least now they are getting a bit more adventurous with colours they use to paint their slides. Other than the combination of white, blue, green, yellow and black. As i said i'll try and get a pick from the bus tomoz.
  25. lol really? That means I was at the park on the same day . Up on holidays for 8 days, from Melbourne, what about u? This is interesting. Even though there have been some good decisions made by the past CEO's, WWW, Claw, Nick Central (as said before), there have also been some real stinkers: The silent removal of the Mine Ride, the addition of the Motor Coaster (actually rode it for the first time on Sunday and thought it was alright, BUT could have been SO much better and ALOT faster), the addition of the Flowrider, the list goes on. To the whole Cyclone discussion, I think it was a great addition. Mabey not the most extreme coaster, but it looks great at the front of the park and now with the intergration of WWW, it looks alot better, and gets people talking about DW. Probably even making people decide to visit the park. I'm looking forward to see what rides will come in the future. Hopefully something to fix the gap between the front of the park and the back of the park (e.g. Rivertown, Australian Outback Experience)
