  1. This will never get old for me I don't think easily impressed, I think quality product. What large roller coaster have the story line actually unfold as it is running, not just in the queue or a room with a TV? TPR also seemed pretty impressed with it and they travel the world riding these things. I think someone even said its what Xcelerator should have been. Its also a lot better IMO than an accelerator that goes straight, straight down and into the break run.
  2. Harry potter, Sipderman, or Dragon Challenge boring? I mean I am yet to ride them, but I'm also yet to hear someone say they found them boring.
  3. ^ Look its also a nice shiny red and blue... pity it isn't like that today! Maybe with the park sort of having a makeover and really expanding into the whole DC Comics theme maybe SE will get some love in this... mist returned, new paint job and maybe even a nicer area outside leading into the LW area, whatever that will be turned into.
  4. Wasn't there always a trim on the drop though? Or have they added more trims to the drop?
  5. Well we are getting a Madam Tussauds! Or however you spell it?? So I was expecting for Merlin to bring some of their other brands here sooner or later.
  6. When I was there last year I didn't see the steam on SE or Batwing for a while! Its a shame because I feel like they really do just help finish off a ride and I really wish the parks could bring them back.
  7. I think I also remember in peak times when BT was at its best, they would have big wait times!!
  8. But isn't LW replacing their trains, but I have a feeling its probably not just technology but also guest comfort My one and only gripe about LW has always been its loading (that goes for cyclone too) with only one train I've always felt like they just take forever to unload it, load it, check then send it off! Some of the videos I've seen of the American parks they seem to do it so quickly, even loading it as people are getting off, making for one continuos flow. I suppose when you've got so many trains running you can't hold things up before they start to bank up, kind of like Scooby. Wipeout uses that system though where the harnesses come down automatically and they don't get checked they obviously just rely on the computers to tell them everything is locked!
  9. Well they do look ugly, but also you only have to read in the paper that there is a lot of things that aren't so nice that happen over there and its not just the street races!
  10. ^^ But when I was a small child I HATED Gremlins and I refused to go on it, so how was it a family ride for everyone if not everyone could? That then brought our family back to the babysitting fiasco. The same went for our family with bermuda Triangle. Actually reading the comments on Youtube of videos of Gremlins the majority of people there comment how much the ride freaked them out when they used to ride it; so I don't think height restrictions when the ride just plain freaked small kids out! Also, Scooby's seating, you can always go in 2 cars 3 in one, 2 in the other, whats the big deal; every time I go with friends or family we quite often have to split up. I never hear anyone complaining about it and see plenty of other people doing it; I found that that just an excuse to complain about something. I think I remember the ride was 4 across seating? So how can they all ride together? Someone would left be in there own row or you go 3 and 2 again. In terms of taking the comments from people who are visiting I think one thing I've learned as has been pointed out on here numerous times before people are just going to complain no matter what and people hate change. If we were getting a new show or dark ride people would still be complaining (Hollywood Stunt Driver)! However, I just had someone come back from the GC and the parks and had nothing positive to say, apart from missing Scooby being down for maintenance. Back to Green Lantern I'm hoping I'll be back up there sometime after it opens, but when it has died down. Reading the trip reports off TPR from IAAPA they seem to be really liking these new trains; it makes you feel proud that we can create something that can get people from across the world excited! I'm looking forward to seeing how the surrounding area looks and what it will be like getting across to the ride!
  11. ^ But this ride hasn't replaced any other rides.... we have just seen closures of other rides in the park, which because we haven't heard anything from the park no one actually knows the real reason for their closures! Something could have come up which was unavoidable! Have a little faith in the parks, look at the shows, events and parades they have provided us, I think it shows they are interested in something more than just theme parks. Scooby is also a family ride, that replaced a family ride and before someone says Sooby is a coaster Gremlins wasn't. I remember when I was young I was not such a huge fan of that ride! Also with the location, whats so wrong with it, we haven't even seen the final product of it. I do love those trains though, they've made the ride look that much more exciting. But MW have always gone beyond with their trains Superman pushing the trains and trains like of the Sccoby movie.
  12. Thats it our parks have to be clever with what they've got. I think thats evident when we look at Movie is building and have built. But thinking back to capital and what they have to play with LW was 16mil and then we saw Wild West was 18mil right? The next big thing was Scooby in 2002 at 13mil and between WWF and Scooby we got Road Runner 2000 and 01' a re-theme of Batman. Then we saw SE come back at 16mil. However, that wasn't the only capital spent that year we also saw Shrek 4D which got brand new seating and a completely re-themed pre-show, not to mention paying for that licence couldn't have come cheap! The very next year was Batwing at 5mil. So in space of 2 years they spent 21mil that we know of (was the dogems around in 06' or 07'??). 2008 we got Hollywood Stunt Driver at 10mil and the roof. If anything I would say the later years have seen less time between major attractions and some great fillers, apart from the lull since 2008, which to be honest I hadn't even noticed I have been enjoying my time there so much. I think looking at that its clear capital does fluctuate and each of those additions have been great for the money available. Look at the price tag for Scooby and there is no doubt its world class. Our parks have been very clever with what they have to spend there is no denying that and they have always delivered fun attractions; so really don't understand anyone who complains about what we're getting especially when the global economy is struggling! I look at what they're spending this year differently. Rather than blowing it all on one ride in one year, my gut feeling is we will see it spent over a couple of years and end up with many great and fun attractions. I say this is my gut feeling because we know LW is getting new trains and life put back in it, GL being built and with the closure of LT and Batman we are sure to see some brilliant new replacement over the next couple of years; or maybe sooner! So instead of one big spend, they are going to smart and spread around overtime; so again why would complain about this? If I'm going to complain about anything at MW it would be F&B and the fact some of their shops and games close early, which I'm not a big fan of. But not having been to the park for sometime I can't even comment on that because it could have easily changed since then.
  13. ^ Well the broadwater is just becoming on big island, so I don't see why the couldn't! Hell in the next couple of years you might even be able to walk from Southport straight across it to SW. Looking at all those old photos its crazy to see how far the park has come and what it has transformed from, sad to see the ski show, what the park was based on gone now! It was a big tradition and big part of their history even arguably for Gold Coast history. The problem with land running out, I've always wanted to see them expand to the other side of the road and keep expanding and develop what is an eyesore on that side!!
  14. ^ Free wi-fi could mean more people tagging themselves at the park and uploading pics of them at the park onto Facebook and Twitter.
  15. How about we just have Dreamworks buy Dreamworld, spend the capital on it and turn it into the park it could be
  16. Well the thing is if you go for a world record, its not going to be long for someone to go out and beat it!! Also, I don't think records do play real well with the GP because anyone I know are surprised to hear DW holds the record for tallest free fall!
  17. ^ All we have at the moment is the beginning of a structure, that's like if they had of built Scooby from scratch and as they started building its white 'movie studio' shed and saying it had gone with Six Flags theming!
  18. I don't know who they are surveying because anyone I have spoken to aren't very happy that two of the most iconic rides of the park are gone. I know these day some of the newer rides could be argued to be more iconic but the majority people I know have grown up with these rides and majority don't want to do roller coaster. Heck, one of them will only do Batman without the simulation, but they still use to do it because they loved the atmosphere and show it put on. Now I am sticking up for them and saying I have no doubt that what will replace them will be fantastic and VRTP have always completed world class top notch rides for their budget. I don't think that will change, but the timing sucks and people who find out what rides have now closed, have basically been very disappointed and said they have no interest to return until those rides are replaced and as long as they are replaced with the same quality and are family friendly; because they really aren't a fan of coasters. I love that we are seeing GL and another coaster for the park it will really help to compete with DW, but I do hope with see some great theming here and I did notice someone asked on Facebook would they do this with GL. I also hope we get very some replacements at both SW and MW and that they can return with some world class family dark rides. People may say in surveys they want coasters, but its amazing how people can love and swarm to well put together attractions/rides. Look at WWF its more of a family/thrill but everyone I know loves because it really seems to get them involved. Another ride like that would no doubt have the same effect, but I just don't see people writing that on a survey I can just see them going BUILD A COASTER!! However, then complaining there isn't enough family rides for them to do, but they'll ask for another coaster int eh next survey. I couldn't agree more with the statement people just look for something to complain and whinge about. So overall, I have faith that we will something, but the timing absolutely sucks and I hope we see replacements soon and some complaints, because the people I know are disappointed!
  19. I'm pretty sure VRTP have done a lot of things in house... didn't I read somewhere that when Disney management came out and experienced BT they commented they could have never built it so cheap in the U.S and wasn't that done in house here??
  20. Now I could see why Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit would have heavily sold onboard audio, because after all isn't that the whole premise of the story with that ride its all about the music. Whereas, Green Lantern, if it does have on-board audio won't it be more used for story telling/thematic purposes? Its not exactly the selling point of the ride, more to tie in with it and compliment it. Sort of like how on SE Superman on the back of the train is more thematic to help with the story of Superman pushing your train out of the subway tunnel before it collapses! Also with Rip Ride Rockit if I remember right, Universal gave out a little more information about the ride. As I said before all Movie World have said (that I have seen) is that steepest drop in Southern Hemisphere and Green Lantern theme.
  21. But then again what has been advertised about this ride other than steepest drop in the southern hemisphere and its themed to Green Lantern? Sure they are going in the right direction to get guests hyped up about the ride with a time lapse camera; but other than that, we haven't seen anything else about the ride!
  22. But this is an aircraft carrier here, those things have to be stable enough to allow jets to take off and land.
  23. Well according to this site we did spend 18mil in 98' on WWF (don't ask me why in my head I was thinking 21mil in 1999) and SE in 05' for 16mil, in 95' there was LW for 16mil and two years later ToT for 16mil! For me personally I don't care who builds it (don't get me wrong I would love a big B&M or Intamin but I would rather do it right rather than go for the cheapest option and get one just for the sake of getting one) how much it costs, whatever. As long it is enjoyable and re-rideable (dark, thrill, family etc.) and just has that WOW feel to it (theming/presentation) I will be more than happy! Look what you got in Scooby for 13mil, probably the most fun, re-rideable family experience on the Gold Coast and definitely has that world class feel to it!
  24. Well hopefully someone will read this and someone will have enough passion in the ride restore it back to the glory days... they did it with Scooby Doo, so why not WWF!
  25. Looking at the map I would have loved to have seen China Town turn into some scare zone area thing and have (if possible with OHS and everything) scare actors around WWF, or at least make it a little more spooky for Halloween. I went on it one year for Halloween and it was going through it at night was the perfect set up to do something more scary with it!!
