  1. I have a feeling the Gremlins ride systems at both Movie Worlds (Australia & Germany) were built by a company called Australian Electric Vehicles. The company states they worked on "many rides" for both parks (http://www.aev.com.au/retail/) as well as parade vehicles (http://www.aev.com.au/b2b/parade.shtml). Anyway, here's a pic of the German ride system which I presume was the same as the one here:
  2. Although it doesn't explicitly state they had any involvement in Alien Encounter, Sally Corp seems to have had some involvement in Expo 88. http://sallycorp.com/company/customers/
  3. http://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/blog/2014/08/seaworld-doubles-down-on-international-park-plans.html
  4. From the Gerstlauer website: 20 rides per hour ~ 240 pph 30 rides per hour ~ 360 pph I can't see Dreamworld getting 30 rides per hour (i.e. in 2 minutes they load, run a cycle, and unload) so I would be thinking something in the lower part of that range for capacity.
  5. Aside from the hijacking in the 80s, there was another incident in 1991 where all seven on board died: http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/1991/aair/aair199102520.aspx
  6. A new park to be operated by Village Roadshow... http://www.latimes.com/business/travel/la-fi-twentieth-century-fox-theme-park-korea-20140716-story.html
  7. Even just looking at the intiial cost, Apocalypse and Outlaw Run both cost around US$10 million. Given the reception of Rocky Mountain's rides, I'm pretty sure I'd prefer the latter.
  8. It's a Moser Rides Maverick. Wipeout is a Vekoma Wakiki Wave Super Flip.
  9. Looking at some of those rides suggested by Parkz: Star Flyer - 120cm to 122cm Sky Roller - 125cm Sky Fly - 130cm Obviously Dreamworld could impose restrictions beyond what the manufacturer recommends or other operators have imposed.
  10. I'd say re-routing the path permanently alongside the Cyclone towards the toilets could give enough room for one. If the splashdown was next to the Rip they could use the same conveyor for rafts. In the image below, I did measure out the funnel diameters per the ProSlide website, but the rest is just guesswork.
  11. As I said in my intial post, cost could be a prohibiting factor. I have no idea whether it is possible or not. The circular gondola of Falcon's Fury might be required to distribute the load rather than just being a capacity/design decision, making such a transformation impossible on the Giant Drop.
  12. I am trying to think which ride, other than the Wipeout, could have a "major makeover", that would result in Dreamworld getting a good return on investment. I don't think there is much you could do to Thunder River Rapids really. Yes you could re-do the ride system and/or restore some of the scenes (animatronics etc), but to most people, they wouldn't notice the difference. I could put up similar reasoning as to why the Cyclone wouldn't be a candidate as well if the train was replaced or an additional train purchased. Even if the Cyclone was re-branded I still don't think the majority of people would realise/care (e.g. people still referring to Lethal Weapon and Corkscrew after their trains got replaced). Also, I'd rule out the cinema, because it only went through an upgrade a couple of years back to convert the IMAX screen to digital, and it would be a stretch to call it a major attraction at the current time. This leaves me with an idea for the Giant Drop. I wonder if potentially Intamin would be able to come in and retrofit Falcon's Fury-style gondolas to the tower? For those that don't know Falcon's Fury is a drop tower which features gondolas that face down during the drop. Similar to the TOT2 refurb a few years back, I think this would definitely capture the interests of many more people than the aforementioned candidates for makeovers. Cost might be a factor in prohibiting something like this from happening though. Also, AlexB, in a quick check of the Gold Coast City Council's website I couldn't find any relevant planning documents.
  13. I'm pretty sure they extended the park's boundary into the overflow carpark for Cyclone. Dreamworld Parkway was a through road up until that point.
  14. If they were to build a Thunderbolt II, they certainly wouldn't be using the old track or train(s).
  15. You can go one step further than that, Rio Bravo definitely was the plan. By the sounds of this article, sometime between September and December 1998, Wild Wild West came into the mix. Back on topic, I'd prefer to see Wild as a separate gate, however, I dislike the idea that it would be situated inside the boundary of Sea World. I think Sea World really needs that land themselves for expansions down the track. I'd highly doubt that we would see any more land reclamations into the broadwater as they did a few decades back.
  16. In recent times, Funfields has picked up Sea World's Pirate Ship and Dreamworld's Stingray. Maybe they are ready for another second-hand Gold Coast ride? It's also interesting to note the ride is listed as a Meisho (manufacturer of the Thunderbolt), not S.D.C. who I presume manufactured the original installation that ran from 1983 to 1998.
  17. Start of sarcasm They are all in the exit path not shown here. End of sarcasm
  18. As I think I have mentioned in another thread before, the original plans for the park were created by WhiteWater West. Everything above appears to be from those intial plans. The park we got was designed by Water Technology. djrappa, I'm not sure which type of wave pool they went with, but I do know they had an "Australian guy" design it over the more common wave pool manufacturers.
  19. Start of sarcasm Why hasn't anyone posted the concept art yet? The updated ride will feature 23 turbines to match the Mars theming Brad discussed previously. End of sarcasm
  20. Whilst the Roxy idea was ridiculous, there was this one for a Soarin' clone: http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/AU/Gold_Coast/Warner_Bros_Movie_World/rides/86-Cancelled_Soarin_Clone.html Also, some stuff pitched for Sea World can be found here: http://www.geocities.ws/doza35au/History2.html
  21. It was a slow boat ride that opened with the park. Up until the early 2000s the ride featured a bushranger show. Popularity declined after the removal of the show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVKE_uu8pwQ
