  1. I found a discussion on Roller-Coaster.com.au which has been deleted from Parkz and thought it may be of interest to some. I've checked with Richard and he says it is ok to post. The discussion has a bit of talk about how the counterweight works. http://bit.ly/ScenicRailwayDiscussion Edit: It seems the forums change the Roller-Coaster URL to Parkz. I've used a Bit.ly to get around this.
  2. If anyone is interested in an elaborate (over 7000 words) photo trip report see this post on Theme Park Review: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewt...=871550#p871550.
  3. The park is now open and some new videos have appeared online. For more information about the park and it's rides visit its database entry on Parkz: http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/SG/Sentosa/U...dios_Singapore/.
  4. ^ I've never had any problems with Google Earth. Both these shots were taken with NearMap which features more recent imagery. See: Lethal Weapon Sidewinder
  5. ^ Didn't you know the slide went like that? I bet you don't know Lethal Weapon's true layout...
  6. Both WhiteWater World and Sea World are water parks? Wet'n'Wild and WhiteWater World are the water parks on the Gold Coast. Sea World is a theme park with a small upcharge water park featuring only a couple of slides. I would not class it as a water park. See Parkz database page for Sea World here, you'll notice it has a few rides with very little focus on the water park. In regards with Bermuda Triangle, if you read this thread you will discover it now offers a lower quality experience than years ago.
  7. The first videos of this ride has appeared online. If you can't be bothered watching the video, the secret weapon is a .
  8. ^ or you could be really cool and make a whole load of div layers (embedded within one another) so all the images on the pinboard could be random: Pinboard background Random Image 1 Frame for Image 1 & pins Random Image 2 Frame for Image 2 & pins etc Paint splats, "Your thrill magazine. Online" I guess it would be similar to how the original Photoshop (or other image editor with layers) file would be like.
  9. I could see that happening to someone like this guy on the Twister...
  10. I like the new homepage Richard. It would be cool if the image could be random every time the page loads up. If you picked a selection of about 20 photos I think this could work well. Just have the paint splats and logo in a different div layer on the webpage and have the image underneath. Just in case you didn't know, the increased thumbnail size for photos on the homepage has affected the latest photo iframe on the forum pages. Part of the image is cut off. EDIT: Fixed now. All in all good job, it looks great.
  11. For the past two weeks the Gold Coast Sun has been running articles about Magic Mountain (on the Gold Coast) in their "Time Machine" section. Up until now the Parkz database has had no information about the park and its rides. I've already created a park entry here and I am wondering if anyone has any information about the rides. Just reply and I'll compile any information into database entries. According to the articles below the park definitely had: Chairlift Castle (magic show) Train Dryslide Chair O Planes (in the picture) According to other Parkz posts in a couple of discussions (1, 2) the park had: Parachute Drop Plane Ride (now Dora at DW) Double Decker Carousel Dodgem Cars Waterslides Finally a quick question to Parkz staff. When entering these entries into the database should I enter them as "Chairlift" or "Unknown Chairlift" because a definitive name isn't known? Thanks
  12. Disney have unveiled a new annual pass to their collection, The Disney Premier Passport. For US$700, pass holders can get access to every Disney park in the US. Separately, annual passes to all the parks cost over US$1000 so it is a huge saving. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010...sport-unveiled/
  13. Exactly! Disneyland tickets cost around AUD$78, the park is open 16 hours, equivalent to almost $5 / hour. Movie World tickets cost $72, the park is open 7 hours, equivalent to over $10 / hour. For an extra $6 you can get entry to Disneyland for 9 more hours! I know which one I'd choose if I had that choice.
  14. This picture was posted yesterday in the appropriate discussion: Ardents latest: Illuminate & The Wedgie
  15. ^ As of November last year they did still offer the discounted upgrade. It definitely wasn't more than 50% off. As I didn't upgrade I can't remember the exact discount but it was either 25% or 50%. Within a month of your pass expiring you should receive a letter from DW offering the upgrade. If you can't wait until then, call the park.
  16. Why so many? Surely one would be enough?
  17. ^ But not for this price. It used to be $100 and is now $70. It's odd that I didn't receive this email - I was a previous Q150 pass holder...
  18. Which one? Adventura Water Park Resort - Park page can be found here. It doesn't sound very likely that this park is going ahead according to posts here. Wet'n'Wild Aussie World - Cancelled. Articles late last year confirm this. See this forum. Both seem to have been cancelled as a result of the financial crisis.
  19. ^ Just to elaborate a bit on the post above. From Dreamworld's website...
  20. ^ if by OP you mean original post i didn't. I quoted another article that somewhat conflicted the first.
  21. Very sad story with a variety of conflicting reports. The main thing I find worrying is that this whale has been involved in three deaths now. The article below states the whale "suddenly grabbed the trainer by the upper arm, tossed her around in his mouth and pulled her beneath the water as dozens of tourists looked on in horror". This is odd because the article posted above says the trainer was in a whale holding area and slipped.
  22. ^^^ Glad to be of assistance. ^ to be even more direct than that... http://pdonline.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/maste...65%5B124%5D.pdf
  23. ^^ AVPX is made up of a few sections: three briefing rooms, tunnel and waiting area and the main area. The main game arena for AVPX is in a tent which was previously used for the Mummy, Nightmares, and the Dream Room (hired for events) on the Blue Lagoon site (see picture below). This tent could easily be moved back to the Blue Lagoon site (if they've packed it up and moved it across the park before they can do it again). The briefing rooms are located within the building that once housed the Vortex / Gravatron. These briefing rooms could be rebuilt in the food and merchandise stores at Blue Lagoon. The only reason why they didn't built it here in the first place is because it is so out of the way from the rest of the park. The maintenance sheds do not need to be moved at all. I've layered the plans over the top of the current satellite shot - the right one I have made the expansion semi-transparent. The expansion definitely will require the relocation (NOT REMOVAL) of AVPX. It will also require the demolition of the Vortex / Briefing room building and part of the old Thunderbolt station. The Thunderbolt area was used as a staff carpark. They stopped using it somewhere between when the Little Rippers (2007) were built and when Big Brother finished (2008). Correct me if I am wrong but in peak season I think staff now park by the old Big Brother house. Hopefully the hour or two I have spent of Google Earth and Near Maps recently has helped.
  24. ^ I agree completely, but smoke effects couldn't be seen during the launch if you're facing the wrong way. They'd work well for a forward facing car but maybe not for a backwards.
